THIS is the correct way to critique Barbie if you're a man and didn't like it. To roughly translate (oh, at times like this I miss the automatic translate function of Facebook):

The whole article is like this (it's a report of the radio critic, not his own article). He didn't like the movie, and he says that if everyone is praising it, and he's very much not the main demographic, that it's his problem because he didn't understand or relate to it. He doesn't say "it's just crap, and that's my professional opinion, so suck it up". I've written stuff in the past about how pop culture is so vilified by people who pride themselves on the fact that they "are on a higher level". I studied classical music, wrote a thesis on the effect of the early URSS on classical composers, and 25 out of my top 30 most listened to songs on Spotify are artists that are supposed to be "for teens". I've liked Greta Gerwig since Brooklyn and Lady Bird, and that's what pushed me to see Barbie on opening weekend and postpone Oppenheimer to this weekend or the next (I was going to do a double screening, but 5 straight hours at the cinema would've given me a migraine). Pop culture is literally "popular culture", and the destructive critics consider that if it's popular (aka, if it appeals to the masses), it's simple and bad (because the masses are simple and bad?). Not everything needs to be intellectual or deep, but if I learned one thing about endless hours of art analysis classes, it's that people can make up a lot of bullshit about anything, so I'd say, get off that high horse.

I don’t understand.
Really I DON’T understand the wave of hatred and negative critics for the “Final Frontier” movie. I get that not everyone can like a movie, it’s even impossible, but man, why? Why are there THAT many ppl who hate on that movie? I don’t get that.
Have you even watched it? Or have you just blindly followed the review of outdated “cinema critics” whose critics only represented and still only represent themselves?
No, I don’t and never take self-proclaimed “cinema critics’” opinion into account. Negative OR positive critics. A fan’s, yes. A lambda viewer’s, yes. And that’s it. Those who call themselves “critics” and think their opinion should be more valued and more relevant than the opinion of other ppl are giganticly arrogant, conceited and narcissistic jerks. That goes for anything, inside or outside cinema.
Anyway, I can’t avoid or forbid anyone to dislike that movie, I mean you don’t have to justify yourself and it’s your most basic right. But again, what I don’t understand is the massive and popular hatred. Like it’s normal. Like every fan should think that way and hate that movie. It looks like most of Star Trek fans agree it’s a terrible movie, that it’s the worst movie of the franchise. Have you even watched the FIRST movie?? There are movies I like and other ppl don’t like, and I can understand why they don’t. But here I just truly DON’T.
I mean: I’ve laughed, a lot of times, I’ve cried, the actors, especially the main actors Kelley, Nimoy & Shatner clearly have fun, the “villain” and the topic of the movie really are interesting (unless the concept of religion or God repels you but in TOS, this topic comes back regularly so either it’s not that the problem, or you’ve just never seen the series and in that case that justification is totally groundless and irrelevant), the plot is simple but it’s decent and consistent (contrary to the plot of most of popular movies everyone seems to strangely agree they’re “awesome” movies), CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT for ShaKahRee’s sake, not much but there IS, I always smile and giggle at the end of it.
So, I really DO NOT understand the consensus among the fans that says it’s a terrible movie or the worst of the franchise (again, watch the First movie, that thing is so BORING as fuck and it happens so much nothing of the emptiest voidness of space it sucks up your life energy and your joy to live even when you were thrilled and excited like a bouncy child just before).
Also, they were THREE people at the scriptwriting. THREE. It’s shown at the beginning of the movie.
I don’t know what happened when it was released in 1989, and frankly I couldn’t care less about it, but maybe it’s time for all of fans to rewatch it now instead of blindly agree with uptight, self-centered jerks from 31 fucking years ago who’re probaly dead for years for most of them.
I bet MOST of nowadays ST fans weren’t even BORN in 1989.
