How To Help a Soul Cross Over

Sometimes when people pass away, they decide not to cross over right away. Instead they hover and linger between our world and the next; sometimes for weeks, months, or years. They’re sometimes hoping to live again, or simply fear judgement on whatever awaits on the other side. Of course no one wants to think that their loved ones could be ‘stuck’ (for a lack of better words), but the reality is that it does happen. Most often being ‘stuck’ happens when someone passes away violently, suddenly, and tragically. 

If a spirit decides to linger, they often hang around their home, where they died, or following around their loved ones. This can result in a sort of ‘haunting’, which sounds much worse than it is, because most spirits are benign. Of course I’d be lying if I said there weren’t any souls that just want to scare and harm people, because those are out there, but generally speaking most souls just want a connection with someone that’s living. 

So what can you do? If you’re a sensitive and experience spirits coming to you, lost and scared, how can you help them in a kind way?

Untimely Death

Someone who dies unexpectedly often can’t let go as quickly as those who have time to get their affairs in order and ‘prepare’. Usually they stay longer because they have unfinished business, they feel like their time was cut short. Perhaps they feel the need to pass a message along to a loved one before they cross over, believing that once they’ve gone they can never again make contact with this side.

The best way to help this lingering soul is to simply listen. If you’re able to communicate, tune in and let them tell you all the things they need to say. Be open, truly listen and care about their situation. Often I’ve had spirits describe (in detail) how they’ve died because they just want someone to know what really happen, what it was like. Other times they just need to know that they are and did enough while they were alive. 

Once they tell their story and feel closure, they usually cross over. Because alive or dead, everyone wants to be heard. Everyone wants a voice. 

Suicide

Suicide is a touchy subject, especially when you’re communicating with a soul that took their own life. Often these souls feel regret, guilt, or shame once it’s all done. Some feel like they don’t deserve peace or to be in a better place, so they tether themselves here. It’s common for these souls to reach out to loved ones in an attempt to make them understand the pain that they experienced during life and to ask for forgiveness. Like usual, it’s unfinished business.

If this is the type of soul that is lingering around you is to let them know that they are forgiven. In this situation, empathy, compassion, and approaching the subject gently is the best way to go. The last thing that these souls need is someone judging them for their decisions when the situation isn’t known. You need to let them know that it’s okay to move on. 

After this soul feels forgiven, they generally cross over. If they don’t cross over right away, don’t feel bad because you ‘couldn’t help’, sometimes they just need extra processing time. 

Doing Wrong In Life

This is seemingly the most common type of soul that lingers. Sometimes (okay, pretty much always) souls fear what’s waiting on the other side. They know all the wrongs they’ve done in life and can’t imagine forgiveness, that can’t imagine going anywhere happy. Sometimes all of that fear, anger, and guilt can turn them into someone they really weren’t in life - a scary, mean, and unlikeable being. Usually they sort of ‘change’ after a long period of being in the ‘middle’ plane. Their energy can turn dark, low, and negative; they kind of lose themselves in all their worry. 

This energy that is produced by these lost souls can sometimes be harmful, which makes this a particularly delicate situation - especially when you take into consideration what they may have done that’s so unforgivable. If this kind of soul (or any soul for that matter) seems more agitated than scared, I don’t recommended making a connection with them unless you already have some experience with this sort of thing. Speaking from experience, it can turn ugly really fast and if you don’t know what you’re doing it turns into a pretty horrible situation. If you aren’t experienced with this sort of thing and feel like you’re ‘bothered’ by this type of lingering soul, call a paranormal team that specializes in home cleansing or a sensitive that’s experienced with these types of ‘hauntings’. 

If You’re a Sensitive

Basically, if you can make contact with and communicate with souls/spirits. 

Once you’ve established a clear communication, be sure that you listen. “Being dead is surreal” is what I’ve been told by a soul. It’s a difficult thing to accept, especially if time was snatched away too soon. If you know the lingering soul’s family personally, it’s okay to pass messages on; just make sure you have a way of proving that it’s really the loved one. Proof always makes the situation easier, because it’s hard enough already. 

Most often a soul will be happy to let go and move on, but there are sometimes those not willing to cross over yet sometimes making them an unwanted house guest. 

It’s best to first let the soul know that you understand how difficult their situation is, tell them that they should go visit family a last time, to forgive others, to forgive themselves, and ask for forgiveness. These small words of kindness or other words of hope always seem to help, it’s a release and helps them know specifically what they should do. As a last resort, which these methods of cleansing and helping often change based on religion/spiritual beliefs, you can often ask for assistance in helping a soul cross over. For example you ask archangel Michael to assist you by either escorting the soul or by offering a shield to those that the spirit follows.

In Conclusion

I believe that you can talk to anyone who has crossed over and they will hear you, sensitive or not. You can talk to them out loud or sort of ‘telepathically’, as long as you’re thinking about them and directing your energy towards them, I feel as if they will receive your message. You might not always hear back from them, especially if you’re having a hard time tuning into the other side, but it can help you knowing that they can hear your words. 

When someone passes away, don’t hold grudges. Don’t be angry at them. They’re gone, they can’t explain the situation or defend themselves. Forgiveness helps you and helps them move on instead feeling held back. Send reassurance, love, forgiveness, and compassion to those who linger (and the deceased in general). It’s in everyone’s best interest to have loved ones or other spirits cross over.
