Rhapsody in Blue || Stephanie & Dorian
Helen
Steph sat outside in the cool of the night making an attempt to keep out of the overcrowded house. It was a daily struggle just to catch some alone time with all the new patients and ghosts that came in like the house was an amusement park of some sort. The girl adjusted herself so that her legs were crossed, then let out a long, slightly exaggerated sigh. Her head peaked up so that her gaze met with the sky, but her brows soon furrowed once the sound of the grass crunching beneath someone's feet. She turned to see who exactly had been approaching her. She could make out that it was in fact male, seeing from the height and size difference in comparison to a female, yet the face was blocked from her view by what appeared to be a laptop.
Soon enough, the person had sat beside her, revealing their identity. She raised a brow, taken a bit by surprise that it had been Dorian. They had only met once before and to her, they were in no condition to be 'hanging out.' Well this is how friendships are made I suppose. She smiled a bit once he ripped his gaze from the screen and tuned it to her.
"What have you got going on there?" She asked, breaking the silence. Obviously she could just look at the screen to answer the question herself, but that would only offer her a summary. It was nicer to get the fuller and detailed version of the story.
"Well I found this... foldy computer in one of the offices earlier. Jared filled me in on how exactly they're supposed to be used but I'm still struggling a bit. I wanted to listen to some music. Particularly Rhapsody in Blue. I was under the impression that perhaps you could help me." He replied, switching glances between her and the laptop. It made her chuckle a bit once he referred to it as a foldy computer.
"Here, let me see." She said lifting her hands once he offered it to her. "Alright, so I was able to find it on Youtube. Just let me know when you want me to push the play button." She informed him. Luckily for Steph, Tate was able to teach her how to actually use a laptop. He had mentioned that he himself didn't know what Youtube was, but thanks to Violet, he nabbed it down and was able to differentiate the difference between Youtube and Utube.
"Do you know who George Gershwin was?" Dorian asked in a calm voice that had brought her back into the conversation. Her brow had raised again once she realized that the name was on the screen. She had heard the song before. Her mother used to play it quite often, yet she never had the opportunity to learn about who composed it. The girl shook her head in a slight motion and cleared her throat.
"No, not really. I mean, I get now he made the song, but I don't know who he was." She explained to him with a shrug of her shoulders.
"Play the song first, and I'll tell you afterwards." He chuckled and shook his head, then pointed at the laptop.
After the last note of the song rang through her ears, a wide grin appeared over her features. It brought back memories of her mother baking in the kitchen with the phonograph on. Her reverie had been cut short once she heard his voice again.
"Gershwin passed three years before I did, but I was still able to admire his compositions fully. He played the piano, you know. Real talented guy." He said furrowing his brows for a moment as he made a hand gesture to add emphasis once he said talented. She smirked and looked down at the screen.
"Wow." For some reason that was all she was able to muster out. The effect of the song still clung to her, leaving Steph with the smile still plastered over her lips.
"What other songs did he create?" She asked curiously. Dorian let out a breathy laugh and turned to her with a surprised expression.
"Alright. My turn. Show me how this works and I'll school you on Gershwin."
