i’ve been thinking about that one post about why you shouldn’t claim characters are hetero just because you don’t like them, mostly because it used Bro Strider as an example

vaguely angry rant about splinters and alt-selves under the cut

like they had valid points. saying that abuse = heterosexual and gay =/= abuse in any circumstances? that’s fucked up. that’s misleading as hell. but i’m annoyed that one of the arguements they used was that Bro was definitely gay because dirk is and he’s dirk. which...no. dirk’s splinters and alternate selves are not fucking carbon copies of his personalities, that should be obvious. dirk is gay. hal, who can be considered a wildly diverged splinter, doesn’t have to be. there’s some canon evidence that he’s not. we have no evidence for bro’s sexuality. 

i dunno, maybe i’m annoyed over nothing? like, the concept of “this person is gay but their alt-universe self who’s a completely different person from them isn’t neccessarily gay” is weirdly important to me, okay, i have no idea why exactly but it is. i feel like yeah, events shape people and their identities and sexualities and bro is very explicitly Not Dirk in some details even if he Is Dirk in many others. maybe that’s whats irritating me. the implication that his personality matches up exactly with dirk’s, or vice versa, for no other reason than that they’re gentically identical. you do know that that statement you’re saying that dirk’s the exact same as bro, right? maybe you’re not saying it, but that’s how it feels and it annoys the fuck out of me. 

anyway. apologies for actually typing this out. i’m totally open to discuss any part of it if you want.
