TECH IS ALIVE (theory)
It looks like this guy has prosthetic legs. How can you have an injury great enough to need prosthetic legs?? Falling from an extreme height. Who fell from an extreme height?? Tech. This guy is Tech no questions asked. (I cant see any other reason why the animators would include the detail of this character requiring prosthetic legs so my bet is that its Tech)
Salvage
Sergeant Hunter x F!Soldier!Reader
When a experimental soldier that was placed with the Bad Batch during the days of the republic is still with them during the days of the Empire but suddenly goes missing on one random day.
Warnings: Kidnapping, Fluff, Cold Hunter to Protective Hunter, A touch angsty, injury, panic attack
Word Count: 5.8K
Well kriff. That was one way to put it at least. One minute you had been with your crew that consisted lately of four clone soldiers and a small child and the next minute you were waking up in the dark cuffed up. It had been any other mission with your crew. All you were doing was attempting a break in on an imperial base when you got ambushed by bucket heads and ISB officers. You had been flanking the crew while arguing with Hunter when you had gotten shot out of nowhere. The blaster bolt barely grazed your shoulder but it was enough to sting and throw off your balance long enough to get snatched up by the ISB. How could you be so ignorant? You didn't know. You did know one thing though and that was the Batch would find you no matter how long it took.
One minute you were there and the next you were gone. Hunter had just been talking to you when suddenly it was like you disappeared. He heard you get hit by a blaster mid argument and then suddenly you were gone. Hunter never liked you too much. You aren't a clone and not as strong as the others. While you are a nice, funny, and he could say good looking person, you weren't meant for the way of war. That doesn't mean he wanted you to get snatched up though. And maybe all along the only reason he never wanted you in the middle of a war zone was because of his growing affection for you.
As you looked around your surroundings you realized multiple things. You were inside a prison cell on a star destroyer for one and secondly for some reason the room was very dark. This wasn't your first time ending up in an enemies prison cell but normally you had your crew with you. Most of them you thought of as brothers but something with Hunter was different. You couldn't tell what it was. It was like he had you wrapped around his finger. He was cold and rude to you most of the time but all it did was intrigue you more for some reason. He's interesting in a way that shouldn't be interesting and you hated that you love it. Pushing the thoughts of your sudden loneliness to the back of your head you decide to try and find a way out of this mess.
You had stupid handcuffs on and couldn't seem to move very easily. Your shoulder was bleeding from the blaster wound and seemed to be getting worse by the minute but you were determined to find a way out of this mess. When you were finally attempting to figure out a plan, the door to the cell opened and none other than Admiral Rampart stepped inside.
"Well you look worse for wear." Rampart says coldly. You just give him a nasty look and he takes that as his chance to keep talking. "Well I was sent to retrieve you for questioning." He said with the utmost confidence. "I won't tell you a thing." you retort. With a smile he responds, "Oh we know which is why we're gonna make you tell us." Before you could question their tactics and who the other half of the "we" was in this equation you were roughly grabbed by some bucket heads. "Let's go of me bucket head." You say as you elbow them to get out of their grasp. They let you go surprisingly and just let you walk in front of them as they take you to this interrogation room.
To put it simply, the boys and Omega were stressing. You were gone and they had no clue where you could've gone. The thing is they would be asking Tech what to do but he had been knocked out when you all got surprised so their only hope was to wait till he woke up. In the meantime Hunter was pacing around the bunk area. All he could think of was how you had just slipped through his grasp. How could he have been so ignorant? While you obviously weren't his favorite (yet!), that doesn't mean he wanted you gone. You still meant something to all of them and you disappearing like this sent a riff through the group that didn't help anyone. They needed you back and fast. It was like Hunter's thoughts had been heard from some distant God because suddenly Tech started to stir.
"Tech?" Hunter said loudly causing Tech to groan from the noise. "What could possibly be needed of me after I just awoke from a head injury?" Tech asked slightly annoyed. Hunter felt bad for a second but pushed past it. "Tech it's her. She was kidnapped and we have no clue how to get her back." Tech looked right in Hunter's eyes before saying just a few words, "Get me my datapad." so Hunter did just that. When Hunter had returned with Tech's datapad and given it over he saw Tech quickly typing before pulling up a map with a tracker moving through space.
"This is her. I have trackers in all of your armor for situations like this. There is a problem though." Tech said. Hunter was only shocked momentarily at the fact that Tech had basically air tagged them. "What's the problem?" Hunter asked. Tech straightened his goggles, "According to this other tracking device I have tracking imperial ships, she is on Grand Moff Tarkins star destroyer" Hunter's face fell. He knew it would be basically impossible to get you off of that ship. That doesn't mean he wasn't going to try. He owed you that. Especially considering your last words had been an argument over something that seemed so petty now. "Well let's jump to their coordinates now then." Tech said interruptting Hunter's train of though while making his way to Echo, Wrecker, and Omega in the cockpit to inform them of the plan and to make the jump.
Things literally couldn't be worse right now. Well that's what you thought until Grand Moff Tarkin walked in. You had been strapped to a board laid vertical in the middle of the room waiting for whatever torture they were going to bring you and then he walked in. "Ah so this is the infamous non clone on clone force 99." You just rolled your eyes at the Moff's comment. You knew you weren't a clone. I mean it was a bit obvious but that didn't make you any less capable. Well you thought that until your argument with Hunter today. He had accused you of being a liability to the crew and then you went and got yourself kidnapped. Proving his point exactly. Even though he was cold, you wouldn't mind seeing him standing where Tarkin was right now.
"I will give you the choice now. You can just tell me what I want to know or you can be difficult and we can do this the hard way." Tarkin said. You looked him dead in the eyes before saying "Like I told your counterpart Rampart, I won't tell you a thing willingly. I would be dead before you could get information out of me." Tarkin just looked back at you with the same intensity, "The hard way it is then. Bring it in please!" He yelled to the closest storm trooper. That's when you saw the one thing you had forgotten existed. An IT-O interrogation droid. Basically a small black torture robot. This was about to get interesting.
You were terrified. Who wouldn't be with this thing approaching. You had heard the stories before. The pain it caused. The drugs it put in your system to lower your pain tolerance. If the droid put those drugs in you the pain in your shoulder would grow even more too. This was really bad. As the droid and Tarkin approached you kept your calm demeanor to try and pretend like you weren't panicking on the inside. "Droid please initiate level 3 torture protocol." and with that you felt a searing hot white pain enter your mind. It was pain like nothing you had ever felt before. It was strong and unyielding. It made the pain in your shoulder seem like a simple scrape. When you felt like you might actually die the pain ceased. You were panting and your eyes were glazed over and you could barely register what Tarkin said, "Now will you tell me where the Batch is? I need this information and will not stop to get it." You lazily lifted your head before responding breathlessly, "It's going to take more than that to get me to break Tarkin." With that Tarkin clapped his hands together in response "Well then you heard her droid, level 4 it is!" With that a drug entered your system and the pain in your shoulder tripled and the white hot pain came back blinding you. All you knew was you would never reveal anything about the people you love.
The Batch was en route to your location but Hunter couldn't stop pacing. He knew that you were more than likely being tortured for their information right now. The thing was he wasn't worried about the fact that all their secrets might get spilled, he was worried about you. He was worried that his last words to you may have been an argument about how you weren't capable enough to be a part of their family. How could he have been so cruel when all you have ever been was kind? He didn't know but there was one thing he did know. He wouldn't let you die. Not before he got to tell you all of these conflicting thoughts.
Hunter never really knew where is feelings lied with you. You were undeniably beautiful in his eyes and a kind and strong person but you weren't who he was used to loving. He was used to loving his brothers and more recently his sister. He wasn't used to loving someone new. Someone that didn't have familial ties with him. He wasn't used to loving someone that could love him back differently and that scared him. Clones have a short life span. He always told himself he wouldn't let himself fall off the deep end for someone to only be there for half their life. That's not fair to them or him. But recently he had started to think you were an exception to this rule.
Before Hunter could finish thinking these scary thoughts though someone interrupted them. Omega. "Whatcha thinking about Hunter?" She said while staring up at him. Hunter knew Omega was his sister but he honestly felt more like her father. Even though she was older than all of them she felt like the youngest one. She felt like his child in all the ways but genetically and does that even matter? To him it didn't. "Nothing important Omega." Was all Hunter said while thinking about the most important issue of his life. Omega just rolled her eyes, "You guys are really bad liars you know? It's kinda obvious what or I guess who you're thinking about." Hunter turned his head at light speed when she said that. How could she know that easily that Hunter was thinking about you?
"How do you know that?" Hunter said just a bit too quickly. "You always protect her in missions when you think no one is looking. You are also always staring at her when she looks away. You never pass up a chance to stay close to her even though you get overstimulated easily around people who wear as much perfume as she does. It's obvious to all of us but her that you find her enamoring Hunter." Omega said with such certainty it was terrifying. He didn't think anyone noticed the stuff he did. Heck he didn't even notice sometimes. It was like a subconscious reaction now to want to be close to you that It just happened without thought now. "I second what Omega just spoke. You really do make it quite obvious brother." Tech said loudly. "I third that!" Wrecker practically yelled. "Let's just say I've noticed it too Hunter." Echo then said. Hunter felt utterly mortified.
The droid was at level 5 before something interesting finally happened. You passed out. Not from the pain though, from the blood loss in your shoulder. You had been steadily bleeding out this whole time and not one imperial decided it was enough to do something about it. Tarkin had been watching your condition slowly deteriorate and when you finally went out he quickly called in the medical team. "Wake her up now! Put a band aid on that shoulder for the time being. She doesn't deserve the medical care of the empire for being a rebel." The medical team quickly got to work. A large band aid was placed over your wound doing virtually nothing but whatever. Another medical professional injected you with a stimulant to wake you.
When you awoke the sight in front of you was something. Tarkin was standing watching his medical personnel work on you to keep you alive for him to torture more. Never would you have thought you would end up in a situation such as this. "One of you will stay here so you can inject her with more stimulant if she goes out again." He said barking orders. One of the younger looking males shyly raised his hand, "But Sir, more stimulants could kill her at this lev-" He was saying before getting rudely cut off. "I don't care. She just needs to be awake to answer my questions. Speaking of which, are you ready to finally tell me the answers to what I have been asking you for?" Tarkin asked. "I have nothing to lose but I do have something to prove to my family. I will never tell you a thing Tarkin. No matter how long I live. Life has only taken from me but I won't let it be the reason I fall. So to answer your question Tarkin, no, I won't tell you anything." You spoke with a surprising amount of confidence given your current circumstances.
Tarkin looked at you in shock. He didn't expect something so profound from just a measly soldier. He thought over your words for more than a moment. You would've been such a good asset to the Empire if it weren't for your previous allegiances that you seemed to keep near and dear to your heart. You were strong and feisty. A fiery combination that when used in the right circumstances could have a quite beautiful outcome but sadly, not this one. Getting his demeanor back he said the few words you very badly did not want to hear, "Well good thing I'm willing to wait for it young one. Droid initiate level 7 of the torture proceedings." With that you felt strong impending doom and the droid approached you and just like that the world faded out and became white hot pain. The only thing keeping you grounded in the midst of this torturous pain was the fact that the boys you called family and one maybe more, would be here eventually. They wouldn't leave you behind and you knew that.
Hunter felt himself fall dead in his tracks when the Marauder emerged from hyperspace in front of the biggest star destroyer he had ever seen. He knew this wouldn't be easy but he didn't know it would be this intimidatingly difficult. He did know one thing though. He would do anything for you and if that meant salvaging you from a star destroyer then he would do it. It only took seconds for the destroyer to open fire on them. They were too recognizable but that was a problem for later, right now they needed to get inside that ship. The bridge knew why they were there and they were sadly smart enough to not pull them in with the tractor beam so they would have to do it on their own. Tech evaded every shot like the pro pilot he is and they were quickly reaching the destroyer.
As they approached they could all see the bottom of the ships openings closing. The people aboard knew they would come for you it was just a matter of when and how they would do it. That's when a bunch of ties launched. Wrecker ran to the back and got on the tail gun ready to shoot them down. Wrecker, to put it simply, didn't miss a single shot and in seconds the ties were gone and the Marauder touched down inside the star destroyer and none other than the crews Sergeant, Hunter, was off the ship first and he was running guns ablazing.
The second Hunter exited the ship he was already shooting down every bucket head within a 30 foot radius. His senses were through the room and it was like he could smell colors by how hard he was trying to figure out where you were in the ship. That's when Tech suddenly appeared next to him after he had secured the main hanger. "I have tapped into their prison systems and it looks like she is in room 345 and has some sort of classified torture happening as of right now. We must reach her quickly." Tech said. With that Hunter was off running. 345 was all the way across the ship and he told himself he wouldn't let himself take longer than minutes to reach you. He needed to save you. Not for his ego. Not for his pride. For his sanity and for the fact that he would not accept the fact your last conversation was him calling you incapable when you were the most capable and willing person he had ever met.
Hunter reached the other side of the ship in what is probably a galaxy record. He gunned down every trooper he saw. It didn't matter to him who they were under all of that. What mattered to him was you and they were in the way. He needed to reach you. He knew that you were under some sort of torture and he had to get to you before it became to much for you to handle. He didn't care about secrets getting spilled he cared about making sure you were okay. He finally reached room 345 and when he opened that door he saw a sight he would never forget. He immediately felt your pure and utter pain with his senses when he took in the sight. One that would be engraved in his mind till the day he died. One that he would blame himself for, for the rest of his life because if he had been there for you just hours ago then you wouldn't be in this situation.
When Hunter opened the door your eyes were rolled back and you were shaking. If he didn't know better he would've thought you were seizing. You were sweating and had an almost gray tone to your skin. You looked like you were dying and to be frank, you were. Your life was slipping away and he had to do all he could to save you. Tarkin turned around the second he heard the door open but was quickly met with a fist to the face and an unconscious mind. The medical personnel were hiding in the back but Hunter didn't care to hurt them he had his eyes set on the droid. He ripped the droid away from you and saw you stop shaking and fall still but before he could watch for too long he started smashing the droid against all possible surfaces he could find. This thing had caused you so much pain and he was about to kill it for that.
When he turned back to you he almost collapsed in shock. Your skin was no longer almost gray but you were pure white and looked like a ghost. Your eyes were glazed over but you were looking right at him with tears in your eyes. You blinked and the tears started to fall and Hunter felt like he might as well die right there. He removed his helmet at light speed and ran over to you. he held your face in his hands and as you cried. He had no clue what level the droid had managed to get to but he did know there was only 12 levels and if it got within 4 levels of that you had faced a pain not many lived through. He just had to hope it wasn't as bad as it was looking. As you cried you whispered one word that seemed to break Hunter's heart even more, "Hunter...."
You couldn't speak even if you wanted to. The droid was on level 11 by the time the door behind it and Tarkin opened. You felt like the world was on fire and you were standing in the middle of it being burned alive but not dying. You could feel the life slipping out of you slowly but surely. The only thing keeping you grounded was the fact that the alarms had gone off around the ship so hopefully that meant that the boys had made it. You had to hope because if you didn't then you might as well already be dead. White and red were searing through your mind when it came to an abrupt stop. When the pain went away you expected to find Tarkin standing in front of you but you found a much more pleasant sight, Hunter smashing up the interrogation droid. You knew you probably looked terrible but you couldn't care less right now. They had come for you. You should be mad at Hunter about the argument from earlier but you couldn't seem to be. He was a hard one to be mad at.
When Hunter finally turned to face you, you felt the tears that had been building in your eyes about to slip over. With a blink they did. It wasn't loud sobs it was quiet and vulnerable. Something that maybe hours ago Hunter would have called weak but honestly you needed to be vulnerable for just a moment. In an instant Hunter had removed his helmet and he stood In front of you. He attempted to free you but ultimately gave up for a moment to just hold your face while you cried. You knew he knew how strong those droids can get. You knew he knew they only had 12 levels but what he didn't know was that you had just been on level 11 and it felt like the world was ending when you reached it. That was the one moment where you were truly scared you might not make it home to see him or the others ever again and right now all those emotions were spilling over. You couldn't manage many word about you were able to manage one, "Hunter..."
"Oh cyare I'm so sorry." Hunter said quietly before tapping into his comm to have Tech hack the system to remove your bindings. You knew the second these bindings came off you were falling right to the floor but it honestly looked like the comfiest place in the galaxy right now. The bindings dropped and before you could hit the floor Hunter caught you with ease. He slowly lowered you to the floor with your back against the wall and crouched down next to you. Your head lolled to the side but he tenderly grabbed your cheek and lifted your face while brushing a few stray pieces of hair out of your face. In this moment you took in your surroundings and that's when you felt the panic building in your throat. You saw Tarkin unconsciousness behind Hunter and the medical personnel fleeing the room. You felt like you could hear every gunshot and every flow of wind exiting the ventilation system.
Your breath started to pick up and it was like Hunter could feel your panic before you even did. His eyes widened when he sensed your panic attack coming and its like he had been ready. This wasn't your first panic attack but normally Omega helped you through them. Little did you know though Omega had told Hunter this might happen and what to do if it did. She really was all of your little savior if we were being completely honest. You felt your chest tighten and your breath seemed to short out. It was like the world was spinning away and you couldn't find an area to grasp. Your eyes started to water even more and your throat was tightening with nausea. Out of all of the panic attacks you have had since joining the Batch this was for sure the worst. When you felt the world might fully slip away you felt two hands on the side of your face forcing your head up to look at none other than Hunter.
Hunter could feel when your panic attack was coming. He was able to feel your heartbeat raise significantly too quickly. Omega had told him what to do though. He saw you spiral in a matter of seconds. You looked so out of it and like you might throw up but that didn't matter. Omega had told him you would probably be overwhelmed by the sounds and feelings that came with this experience so he knew exactly what he needed to do. Hunter quickly took your face in his hands forcing you to look him in the eye. As your breath quickened more he started to speak. "Hey hey hey look at me. This will pass and I'll be right here the whole time. Follow my breath." With this he took in a deep breath and released it slowly as you attempted to follow suit. As he breathed he slowly moved his hands over your ears because he had a feeling the gunshots were just a little too much for you. He could sense your immediate relief as you closed your eyes and your heart rate started to slow slightly.
After minutes Hunter slowly removed his hands and you spoke almost immediately. "Hold..me....please." You rasped between unsteady breaths. Hunter basically threw himself at you. He maneuvered behind you and held your back to his chest with you between his legs. He wrapped his arms around your waist to give you something to ground yourself. He decided at this moment he would use one last tactic that Omega had given him. The game of 3's. "Tell me three things you can see." Hunter questioned. You stayed silent thinking before responding, "Tarkin, You, and the destroyed droid." Hunter nodded in acceptance at this answer before continuing. "Three things you can hear." He asked. You thought momentarily, "Your voice, My voice, and the shots outside." Hunter then continued with the final three, "Finally tell me three things you can feel." You immediately answered. "The floor, my armor, and your hands." You took his hand as you said the final two words, catching his slightly off guard.
When your panic had finally seemed to subside the tiredness seemed to take over. You slowly sunk farther back into Hunter's chest. The only reason no troopers had come to find you yet was because Tarkin hadn't told them what room he would be in. As you leaned fully against Hunter you felt him shift a touch so you could now look up and see his face. He was already looking down at you as he began speaking. "Should I get you out of here now?" He asked. You just nodded in response. Considering the amount of sheer torture you went through you shouldn't be able to stand but that just wasn't who you were. You slowly stood up with the help of Hunter but then took on your full weight. You wobbled momentarily but you regained you balance quickly. You took Hunter's spare blaster and you both slowly made your way out of the torture chamber and into the fight happening outside the doors.
Right as you exited you immediately ran into Echo. "Well look who's still alive." Echo said happily. You just gave him a smile but quickly shot a trooper about to sneak attack him. This impressed both Hunter and Echo considering how alert you were already. Pushing past their surprise you three started making your way to the hanger. As you were walking you felt the pain in your shoulder return and that when you looked up and saw the wound had bled through once again. You just had to make it to the ship and it would get checked. Just make it to the ship. Well that's what you tried to do before another blaster shot rang out from behind you grazing your already injured shoulder. Kriff. You screamed in pain and Hunter quickly turned around and saw you on the floor holding your shoulder. He swooped you up into his arms after shooting the trooper that was approaching them and ran off with you to the Marauder.
"I..would've... been.. fine.." You said through gritted teeth. "Yea sure. Just let me help you for a second." Hunter said while looking straight ahead at the Marauder they were quickly approaching. "Guess I proved your point from earlier." You said quietly because you were in pain. Hunter immediately knew what you were talking about and felt the guilt wash over him. He hadn't meant those words it had just been a moment of weakness for him but now it was going to stick with you for the rest of the time you lived. Calling you a liability wasn't fair when you had saved all of them on countless other occasions too.
You saw the guilt wash over Hunter's face before he spoke. You could tell he felt bad about the earlier argument but it had affected you more than you were willing to let on. His words hurt. You knew you weren't the best on the crew but you tried and you thought that was all that mattered, well until today. Hunter stepped onto the gangplank of the Marauder before he even said a word about your last comment. He yelled to Tech to take off because Tech, Wrecker and Omega had already reached the ship and done the pre flight proacalls. Once they took off Hunter ran to the back bunks and laid you on his because you had a top bunk. As he was removing your armor he finally spoke on what you had said. "I didn't mean it. Well I did but in a way that's more confusing to the both of us." he said. You raised an eyebrow at this comment because you now needed to know more.
"What exactly do you mean Hunter?" You said. You knew you were entering an area that would either end in destruction or pure bliss and you really hoped for the latter. He stayed quiet momentarily, thinking about what to say before he spoke. "I think I said that because I was scared of something like this happening. I said it because I have feelings for you that scare me. Feelings that no matter how hard I try to push them away they just come back stronger." he finally said quietly while tending to the wound on your shoulder. You just looked at him with your mouth slightly parted. He was avoiding your gaze but you knew what he meant. He shared the feelings you also had for him.
You reached over to Hunter with your good arm and grabbed his face while simultaneously brushing some of his luscious locs out of his face. He looked up at you with the softest expression you had ever seen him wear. His honey brown eyes looked at you with the most vulnerability you had ever seen in him. He was Hunter but he also was someone who had just finally opened up about something that had been conflicting with them for the maker knows how long. He was scared. "Oh Hunter." Was all you managed before leaning down and placing your forehead against his. "Those words just made the rotation for me." you said with a teasing tone. He just smiled at you whole looking right into your eyes. "I never knew how you would respond if I told you. I realized though that if the last thing I ever said to you was words during an argument I would regret it forever. You are everything to me and more and I can't just let that slip by for my short life. You make me feel a way no one ever had and I thought never would. I'm just now realizing it's always been you." Hunter said with so much conviction that it took your breath away.
You looked back with the same intensity he was staring at you with before saying your confession back. "You enamored me from the first day but I kept my distance because professionalism seemed like the way to go, until I just couldn't hold it back anymore. You're everything to me Hunter. My life didn't feel full until you entered and I can't just ignore that feeling any longer. I need it to be you. I don't care that you won't live as long as I will or that we live a dangerous life. I want you Hunter and I think I always have." With that the distance between the both of you closed at light speed. Hunters lips locked with yours in a kiss that spoke volumes about the things you both would never utter aloud. He knew you were potential heartbreak from the moment he met you but that wasn't going to hold him back anymore. As you both pulled away breathless and looked into his brown eyes it seemed like the only thing that had ever mattered was him and his you.
A/N: Lets just say I'm in love with this and Hunter....!
