How To Become The Best Speaker: Tips From A Public Speaker Coach
What one-on-one speaker coaching can do for you (or for your employees and leaders)? Here are tips on how to become the best speaker from a public speaking coach.
Speaking in front of an audience can be one of the biggest challenges to overcome. It can be difficult to perform confidently in small groups, let alone huge groups of people. Whether presenting in front of a class or pitching a marketing idea to the company directors, we all want the same thing: The ability to express our thoughts — confidently, clearly, and concisely.
Public speaking isn’t just about words. When you talk about a subject in front of an audience, your mind frames ideas, your body expresses them, you utilize your skill set while you try to hold attention and connect with the people you're talking to.
Here are my top 3 favorite tips, tricks and ideas to improve your public speaking skills.
LOOK INTO THE EYE
The easiest way to connect to your audience and to show authenticity and sincerity is to look into their eyes. When we lie or when we invent information, we usually look upwards, downwards, left, or right. Whenever you talk to someone and you do these gestures, the audience easily thinks that you are lying or hiding something.
AVOID READING YOUR SCRIPT
When you are asked to deliver a speech, try to avoid reading it from a script because you’re going to sound more monotonous. Rather, deliver your words impromptu. When you do it impromptu, your tone goes up and down, and therefore, it’s more heartfelt and more sincere. Also, remember that your content must be easy to understand and easy to remember. Focus on how you say it, what exactly are you saying in the first place, and how well you know your audience.
HUMOR HELPS
I sometimes start my speech with a joke because it both lightens up the atmosphere and relaxes me. A joke will instantly boost your confidence, as you will feel more comfortable speaking, trust me. Moreover, the audience won’t be bored and will definitely pay attention to you and what you are saying.
