“augh!” you grunted as you face planted straight into the mattress of your queen sized bed. that you shared. with your boyfriend. who was the cause of your moaning and groaning.
“yah! get off of the bed! your going to make it all dirty with your sweat!” his booming voice scolded you as he barged into the bedroom, your limp body spread out against the sheets. you didn’t move which only furthered changbin’s growing rage. but he knew better than to get upset with you. “what’s got you so tired anyways? we just went for our usual morning routine!” he asked you, stripping out of his shirt that loosely stuck to his drenched body. the thudding of the fabric to the floor had you lazily turning your head towards him.
his body will never cease to amaze you.
“that we started three days ago, my body can’t get used to your level of working out so fast!” you whined. there was no way that someone who had never lifted a weight in their life was ever going to get on the level as someone who did that on a daily for years. changbin was set on being the better of himself, you lacked in that kind of confidence. “my body hurts. it’s sore, everywhere,” you groaned, your face burying back into the comfort of your sheets.
changbin stared at your spread out body, silence was amongst you two before he sighed.
you didn’t hear much after that other than the small shuffling he was making in the background. you were about to fall asleep before you were startled awake by the strong pair of hands gripping onto the back of your thighs.
you nearly squealed before you realized what exactly was happening.
changbin gently massaged his fingertips into the sore muscles of your body, his weight hovering above your back. “that feels good..” you mumbled, not being able to stop yourself from the noises you were unknowingly making. “stop moaning you weirdo.” you both laughed before he continued with his soothing massage.
his hands ran up and down your body comfortingly, rubbing out all of the tense muscles that had been bothering you for the past few days.
“do you feel better?” he asked you, finishing off the massage with your shoulders. “mmhm, maybe after you help me into the tub,” you hummed in a tired daze. to which he scoffed with a playful eye roll. “stop being a lazy bum and do it yourself, i’m not your caregiver,” he argued.
you begged to differ with how he was treating you right now.
“please~” you whined.
“you really are as helpless as you look.”
you shot him the puppy dog eyes.
“cringe,” he sighed. finally giving in and helping you up out of bed, he let you strip out of your clothes behind him while he warmed up the bath for you. you watched as he added in your favorite scented soap to the water, the bubbles overflowing the tub.
let’s just say, he didn’t leave your side for the rest of the day.

AUTHORS NOTE; i’m not gonna lie- i teared up thinking about how sad this was. im sorry if i didn’t execute it the way that i thought it in my head. i hope you all see the kinds of feelings that im feeling through this story, a lot of them were based on how i felt in my own personal experiences.
you don’t know how long it has been.
how long its been since you looked at your phone or how long its been since you’ve gotten out of bed.
when was the last time you took a shower or made yourself a proper meal? the most you’ve done is probably get up to pee.
but with the lack of nutrition, it was even hard to do that sometimes.
depression was not something to take lightly. everyone knew that. especially if it was mixed in with heartbreak.
it could really mess up somebody.
and that was exactly what you were experiencing.
the same kind of messing up.
to sum up the unfortunate story of your disgusting break up, it was an understatement to say you hated your ex-boyfriend. three weeks ago, he cheated on you. and that was something you were not going to tolerate with when you and him had been in a long-lasting relationship of 2 years. you had gotten sent a picture by someone who had went to the same party as sunwoo, that night. in the picture, he was kissing another girl. you don’t know why you were so surprised, he’s always had people around him all the time. both girls and boys were attracted to him wether it was platonic or not.
you suppose the reason why you feel so broken, is the fact that he always gave you a reason to believe that he would never do such a thing to hurt you.
there was never a time that you felt unloved when you were with him. he always made sure to make time for you even when he, himself, was at his worst. he knew you like you knew the back of your own hand. he knew exactly what you order at all of your favorite restaurants, he knew what your favorite comfort food was when you finished watching a sad movie, he knew just what to do when you stayed home in bed because of how bad your cramps were. he knew what the size of your clothes were and always made sure to get them one size bigger so the both of you could wear them back to back. he always made sure to leave his cologne out on the bedside table so you could give yourself a little spritz of it whenever you missed him more than anyone else. and he always made sure to be there for you when you were having a rough time.
the day you found out he cheated on you, you cried for as long as your exhaustion could take you. when he came home that night, you didn’t have the strength to say much to him. he asked you over and over what was wrong, what he could have possibly done to make you sob to the point of bloodshot eyes.
you told him to get out with no explanation. he knew what he did yet you still don’t know why he acted like he was still innocent.
you dare to ask him about it, though.
once he packed all of his things with you watching from afar, he gave you one last saddened look before locking the door behind him.
those eyes stuck with you. you couldn’t forget the amount of worry and sorrow that was behind them. but even so, you weren’t even sure if you could look at him the same anymore. no matter what he did to try and make up his mistake to you. you could barely even look at your phone without drowning in the anxiety of seeing his face pop up on your lock screen.
suddenly, your thoughts were interrupted when you felt a strong vibration come from your phone, across the bed. you knew exactly who it was and you didn’t dare to look at your phone. but no matter how strong your will was, you gave in to the pure curiosity of what he had to say this time.
sunwoo:
y/n, i know you’re reading these.
please
just respond? let me know how you are
i’m worried.
it’s been weeks
none of your friends have seen you either
i keep asking every day but they know as little as i do
i know i’m the last person you want to talk to and we don’t have to talk about what happened, but please at least say something to let me know you haven’t completely given up.
i know you better than anyone else
you stared at the messages. you contemplated wether to text back or not. although you were curious as to what he had to say, it didn’t delve deep enough for you to bring up the courage to respond.
thank god your read receipts weren’t on.
putting down your phone again, you sighed and rolled over. you had forgotten to check the time but you were certain it was at least mid-day by now. everyday around this time, you battled with yourself to get up and do something productive. but your lack of motivation won every time.
luckily, today didn’t feel as bad as the others. usually you would be swimming in exhaustion.
you silently dragged yourself out of bed, using the little strength you had to rake through your heavily knotted hair and brush your teeth. you desperately needed a shower but you weren’t sure if you were up for that. the longest you’ve gone without one was probably 5 days. you were thankful that your hair didn’t get greasy easily.
the next thing you did was order food. door dash was probably the closest to being your best friend nowadays. you were certain that most of the groceries in the fridge had gone bad by now, as the last time you went shopping was with sunwoo a week or two before the whole incident. even if there was something good in the kitchen to make, you probably wouldn’t even be up for that either. you were also thankful that sunwoo left some of his backed up money behind because without it, you’d probably be hospitalized by now.
gosh, you loved being the emotionally broken one.
maybe this was a sign to start going to therapy? you sighed. it would be a nice thought if you didn’t hate the idea of talking about your problems to a random stranger.
you flinched when you heard your phone buzz violently on your bedside table, looking over at the device and rolling your eyes when it was sunwoo. again.
sunwoo:
please answer..
okay, maybe you did feel bad for ghosting him. something told you that this message was much more meaningful than the other ones. that maybe he was actually sorry.
you sighed for probably the millionth time that day, trying to build up the courage to actually send a message back.
you:
you sure have a lot to say
sunwoo:
oh my god.
you answered!
you:
im not dead if that’s what you thought was going on.
i wouldn’t give up that easily.
you definitely thought about it.
sunwoo:
how have you been?
why haven’t you come to school?
why haven’t you been talking to your friends?
why was he so persistent? he knows you don’t want to talk to him. it gave you a headache. you were really starting to wonder why you were still heartbroken over this man.
putting your phone down after leaving him on delivered, which seemed to be a common occurrence for you now, you were happy to see that your food arrived peacefully. what you weren’t happy to see was the person who delivered it.
it was one of your school friends, changmin. one of the ones who would definitely have been curious to know how you have been for the past few weeks. since when did he start delivering food?
“y/n? how long has it been? i’ve been texting you!”
you were going to be honest.. you haven’t even been looking at any of your messages unless they were from your parents or sunwoo.
which you only responded to your parents.
“aren’t you here to give me my food?”
“right,” he quickly took the money you had in your hand and shoved it into his pocket, handing you the bag. “uhm.. i know you might not want to hear this but people are really looking forward to seeing you back at school. we’re all worried about you and sunwoo.” this spiked your interest.
“has sunwoo not been at school?”
“he has. it’s just…”
“what? it’s just what?”
“he’s been with another girl everyday since you’ve been gone.”
you should have expected to hear that. it was the whole reason you were upset at him in the first place. the whole reason you couldn’t bare to even step outside anymore. it was probably the same girl he kissed in the photo.. you were angry. furious at him for cheating on you, asking you if you were okay, texting you every day all while he was still seeing someone else. granted, you both have broken up but still.. it hurt.
you fought to hold back tears at the thought of him loving up on someone else behind your back even though he wasn’t yours anymore.
but you failed.
changmin dropped to your side as you cried into his shoulder. your knuckles turning white from how hard you were gripping onto his thin shirt. you wanted nothing more than the ground to open up and swallow you whole. the same common feeling you felt for the past 3 weeks.
you cried for a while, your friend not making any effort to move or get back to his job. his only way of comfort was dropping whatever he had left in his hands and hugging your frail body. he frowned at how thin your body had gotten since he last time he saw you.
“can i stay for a while?”
“don’t you have a job?”
“you were my last delivery.”
somehow you didn’t believe that but you nodded anyways. feeling much more comfortable with him now that he knew exactly what your situation was. he comforted you enough to try and move you to the couch, taking the food with him.
“i’m not hungry anymore..” your appetite was ruined now. “you and i both know that you need to get something into your system.”
well, you couldn’t argue with that.
you both sat in whimpering silence as he helped you with your food, being with you the entire step of the way from feeding you to going back to laying down in the comfort of your bed. “y/n, i think that maybe you should actually have a talk with sunwoo,” changmin frowned at your tired state. “i don’t even think i could handle listening to his lame excuses,” you spat with rising anger.
“i know you have a lot of negative feelings about the whole thing but i really think it would help you to get over it if you just made things clear with him.”
“he doesn’t deserve my time.”
“but i think you deserve his.”
you didn’t want to think too hard about whatever kind of point changmin was trying to get across to you, but the more he said something about how your life is literally turning out to be the worse for yourself without confirmation from sunwoo, the more you started to realize that maybe he was right.
but still, you just couldn’t shake the feeling that maybe. just maybe. you could find it in yourself to get over him without an explanation as to why he cheated on you.
“i’ll think about it.”
he nodded, tucking you into bed and doing all of the basic needs for you like plugging in your phone and turning the lights off before finishing throwing away all of the trash and dirty dishes you had laying around the room.
“will you think about coming to school tomorrow?” he asked on his way out of the bedroom.
“will you be there?” you asked, lifting up your head from your pillow to stare at him in the doorway. “only if you are,” he smiled, to which you faintly gave him one back.
he gave you one last look before closing the door behind him to leave you in peace.
almost just like before, those eyes seemed to stick with you the entire night.
.
.
.
THE CONCLUSION
sunwoo:
the picture you received that night wasn’t real.
it was fake.
i’m so sorry that was that had been bothering you all of this time.
if i had known sooner, i would have made it clear that i would never cheat on you with someone else!
the girl i am with now, i swear it’s not what it looks like. i know you have heard things about her and i.
but my relationship with her it’s only platonic! i promise.
she wants me but i want you..
i still think about you
i still worry for you
i still care for you
and ill still do whatever i can to make it seem that way

AUTHORS NOTE; MOM. I LOVE HIM. 🥹.
“i’ll be with you in one second!” you announced to the new customer that had made his way up to the front counter, you working around anything but the register to get the abundance of orders flying in like left and right. it was a busy day ever since the book sale of one of your favorite authors new releases. apparently everyone else loved her too if there were so many here to gather around and purchase it.
she was a famous author known for writing thriller and young romance stories, the best in your opinion.
sure you could get off on reading fantasy and novels and intimate stories but this, her stories, her genre, was just the kind of taste you were looking for when it came to hard-back and paper. you were glad so many others seemed to think the same. although, you were afraid that by the end of the day, you wouldn’t get to the sale in time to purchase with the same discount as everyone else. you didn’t get paid as much as you wanted to since you were still fairly new to the job.
it was your only loss when it came to working as a barista full time in this bookstore.
“yes?” you turned, sliding the freshly made coffee out on the counter and announcing the name that was scribbled on to the ticket, drawing a small flower next to that persons name. “what would you like?” you finally made eye contact with the costumer you were serving, your eyes growing wide in surprise. “oh, you’re the librarian that walks around the library every day!” you pointed out only to quickly become embarrassed as you had just admitted that you had been watching him since day one. as if being a librarian didn’t require you to walk around and help readers find their chosen or requested book. “yes, i am indeed the librarian that walks around the library every day,” he giggled, seeming to not find your flustered expression, strange. “i’d like a grande cold brew, please,” he replied to your question from before, finding your fumbling fingers cute as you struggled to not blank on the entire english language. much less blank on how to do your job.
“will that be all?” you asked, plugging in the order to your ipad and grabbing the correct cup in size. “yup, my name is younghoon,” he said before you even got the chance to ask. clearly he had gotten coffee many times before to know how the whole process worked.
not that it was difficult to understand.
you quickly wrote his name in your favorite font, taking great pride and joy in that calligraphy class you took for a month or two around a year ago. you learned to be steady with your hands when it came to holding a pen or a pencil. or in this case, a sharpie.
finding no other customers waiting at the front, you were happy to see that people were finally starting to leave after the book sale had gone down. it was always a different kind relief whenever the rush hour was over.
younghoon continued to stick around and talk to you as you worked, not taking the normal customer route and just sitting down or getting on their phone while they waited for their drink. “i noticed you started a few days ago, how have you managed around so quickly?” he asked, resting his arms on the leveled counter as he watched you whirl around the back. “i haven’t,” you giggled which made him smile. “it’s really hard during the busy times of the day since it’s just me here and it’s hard to keep up with the stress of getting all of the order right. half of the time i’m forgetting how to actually make the coffee! but whenever it starts to die down in business, it tends to get a lot easier,” you explained, finishing up his order before asking him if he wanted anything extra in it like milk and such. he shook his head and you proceeded to draw a little drawing on his ticket like you did with everyone’s. “do you draw often?” he asked after observing your small bubbly scribbles after you handed him his drink. you were surprised whenever his fingers brushed your own, feeling a strange spark shoot through your body. did you usually get that feeling whenever you touched other people? you didn’t recall so. “i used to draw a lot back when i used to major in art,” you mentioned, leaning on the back counter as you spoke to him. keeping note to still keep an eye on the front counter if anyone shows up. “now i major in literature.”
younghoon hums as he finally takes a sip from his cup, melting at the taste. “oh? what made you switch?”
“i always liked writing and reading. drawing was starting to become a hobby of mine so after i lost most interest in it, i started thinking about what i actually wanted to do with my life.”
“so you started as an art major because you didn’t know what you wanted to do?”
“yep. when i found my love for how words were formed on paper, i wanted to make the switch immediately.”
he nodded at your choice, seeming to be interested in whatever you decided to choose. it was quiet for a bit as he continued to drink and you continued to stare at the ground, you supposed he had nothing else to say to that. did that mean you should say something?
“what is your favorite line, then?”
he finally broke the silence, your eyes trailing up from the group to meet his dark ones. the message he was giving you through his gaze alone was enough to have your entire world stop in place. the soft jazz music in the background coming to a slow halt and small chatter of other customers fading. your stomach fluttering with butterflies and your blood rushing to any part of your body that seemed fit. in your eyes, it seemed like he was the only one that mattered to you in this moment. the way his hair draped over his forehead and fell into his beautifully shaded brown eyes, the way his shoulders rested broadly and the way his long trench coat dipped slightly to trace his figure. even his hands wrapping around the large plastic cup he was holding was enough to have you melting. why did the man in front of you have to be so stunning?
“you wanna dance with me?” you spoke softly. you didn’t even mind the other people as you quoted directly from one of the most known books and movies around.
“no way, is that from the notebook?” he laughed as you nodded with the hugest smile on your face.
“sure, now?” as he quoted from the same book.
you dared to hold back a smile as the both of you cringed at yourselves.
“mhm.”
“you’re not supposed to dance in the street.”
“you are supposed to dance in the street.”
“yeah but we don’t have any music.”
“well, we’ll make some… bum bum bum bum bum bum..”
“you’re a terrible singer.”
“i know.”
he hesitated to say his last line as the both of you knew what came next. you stared at him with hoping eyes.
“and i like this song.”
even though you both cringed the entire quoting process, you still found this to be a very memorable moment for you. you had never met someone as entertaining as younghoon. nor someone as handsome…
“ah this is nice. i was a little bummed out today that i didn’t get to buy any of the books from the sale today but you totally brought up my mood again!” you smiled, watching as he took more sips of his coffee after it had became watered down from the conversation you two held. “oh? you wanted one?” he watched as you walked out from behind the counter, finally getting a full view of each other as you could only see the upper half of him from behind the counter. you didn’t think the height difference was going to be this embarrassing. “yeah, she’s my favorite author. i love how she can make thriller into a sweet romance story,” you clasped your hands together, needing to express just how you felt about this one person.
he stared at you in awe.
leading you over to one of the coffee shops empty tables, he sat you down. “i’ll keep that in mind. if you like stories such as hers, i recommend trying to read some from….” he kept mentioning on and on about different authors and their works along with minor details and book summaries. you always assumed most librarians liked books if they chose to work in such an environment, but his level of knowledge was insane. you didn’t think you’d get this tied up over someone talking about book covers to the texture of pages to even the types of fonts that were used in certain books. you were completely infatuated with this man.
“you sure know your stuff,” you giggled, watching as his face visibly heated up, turning a light shade of pink that sent a familiar feeling of butterflies off in your stomach. “you could say i read a lot more than the other librarians in this store,” he chuckled. “i would assume you have a lot of free time then?” you played with your fingers, hoping he would say yes as you were wishing for him to come back and see you more often. “you could say that.”
you tilted your head, wanting him to go on.
“i still have a job to work, is what i mean,” he laughed. “oh!” you slapped your hand over your face as if you should have thought of that before opening your mouth. the both of you were just on the topic of his job and you still managed to forget that he was basically your coworker. since you both worked in the same store, technically. “my bad,” you apologized. “it’s all good.”
the conversation didn’t last long after that, he ended up having to leave shortly after to finish his shift. but much to your enlightenment, he mentioned coming back and visiting you whenever he was on his breaks.
you always looked forward to those times.
you always caught yourself looking for him every second of the day.
whenever he did come, he’d always have something new to share with you along with a new quote from the books he reads. some of which were ones that you had recommended him to read. a lot of the annotations he mentioned to you were just for his own personal liking. he always marked the ones specifically of the quotes or even pages he’d like to read to you. to your surprise, he liked to read an abundance of poetry which you definitely didn’t complain about if you got to hear him speak such soft and emotional words to you. you never thought just someone speaking would be enough for you to say that it sounded like he was serenading you in a way other than playing or singing.
in short, you couldn’t get enough of him.
you sat down next to younghoon in the now empty coffee shop after a long hard day of work, it was just about closing hours as he had come to visit you for the last few minutes before you called it a night. “what have you brought me today, mr. kim?” you formally said in a way to lighten the mood, he smiled at your silliness.
it had been about two weeks since the two of you had meet and started talking. somewhere along the way you managed to get his number. which you definitely screamed about for an unreasonable amount of time whenever you came home and observed his contact.
you passed him his freshly new drink, this time being a refresher as he didn’t want to have any sorts of caffeine late at night.
you understood his reasoning whenever he explained to you that he enjoyed a good nights of sleep.
of course, before he did anything, he smiled as he observed the new drawing you scribbled onto his ticket. your shy smile creeping it’s way up across your face whenever he told you that he thought it was cute that you always did these for everybody. “do your drawings ever have any meanings?” he asked. “i always try to draw them inspired by how that person makes me feel or how they make me think of them,” you responded. “does this mean i remind you of someone handsome?” he motioned to the black marking on the cup, you panicked whenever you saw what was on it. your dumbass actually put his name as handsome with small drawings of hearts around the name. god, you actually couldn’t get any more embarrassed than how you feel right now.
“i-i can explain,” you stuttered. he just shook his head, “it’s okay, i don’t mind it.”
you didn’t have to wonder too hard about what he meant by that. the growing chemistry between each other was definitely hard to miss.
clearing your throat, you shifted in your seat to try and rid of your looming embarrassment. “so, care to read to me today?” you gestured to the book that was sitting on the table in front of you both. “of course,” he smiled, picking up the book and turning to the page he had prepared for you today.
“what was that feeling in my chest? regret? regret that i'd left last night after our kiss that i'd pulled away before he could know how much i truly wanted him.” he quoted, you listened carefully.
you could feel your emotions sink at the choice of words. what was the purpose of him telling you this quote?
“do your quotes ever have meanings?”
“i always try to inspire them off of how that person makes me feel,” he said softly, the both of you staring into each others eyes.
you could feel that same time lifting feeling as before. the same one you felt two weeks ago.
before you knew it, you melted into his touch as he cupped your cheek, his fingers brushing into your hair and pulling it behind your ear.
“i know we haven’t kissed before so there can’t be any regret but… can i show you how much i truly want you?”
“i’m starting to wonder where you get your poetic vocabulary from,” you giggled in his grasp.
“i got this one from that book you said you wished you had gotten two weeks ago, by your favorite author.” he smiled then your expressed lit up, your eyes trailing down to the hard-back cover of the book.
it was the book you had missed the sale on and were all sold out by the time you got to it. you couldn’t believe he actually bought it and read it.
“i’ll let you have it if you tell me how you truly feel, too.”
“y’know, i think a kiss sounds about right, right now.”

AUTHORS NOTE; i should probably do more research on forbidden love au’s. i had a lot of what i wanted to happen but then it just didn’t happen 😀. i have trouble executing my ideas 🫡.
you could feel the room progressively getting hotter as juyeon pressed you up against the wall, his hands gripping the back of your neck as yours rested on his chest. he breathed into your mouth as the both of you shared a deep kiss, the wetness and the roughness of it sending waves of passion yet strong desire to all of your most wanted parts of your body.
you wanted him and you could feel how much he wanted you too.
there was no denying the amount of tension between you two for the past month. ever since the both of you got hired onto the job, there was this ever growing sense of urgency to have each other in the others arms no matter what circumstances that may come. but of course, neither of you could fulfill your wishes in front of the others. they’d never look at their competitive 2 leading lifeguards on the beach, the same, ever again. much less, you’d probably get fired for having such connection to each other when you both have important roles to play.
your boss couldn’t afford the distraction with you two.
therefore, you and juyeon got together to make a plan on when it would be best to meet up without anyone being too suspicious.
at the end of the week when everyone was too tired to pay attention to each other.
so, here the both of you were, locked in a back shed behind the beach house. where the both of you were supposed to start work 5 minutes ago. you knew how risky this position was but neither of you cared, it was the end of the week and you and juyeon couldn’t take the waiting anymore.
he pressed on you harder, the kiss deepening and the space between the two of you closing. his hands trailed down your body and to your hips, gripping them enough to lift you up and throw you on the sheds wooden island. his hands snaking further around your waist as he scooted his way in between your legs, his lips finding yours again. you could feel his lustful smile against your teeth as you pulled away slightly. “what?” you smiled back, your arms finding their way around his wide shoulders. he shook his head, “i’ve just waited for this for so long. and now i can finally have you in my arms like this,” he spoke mellowly.
one thing was for sure, you were never, ever, going to get over his soothingly deep tone. you could listen to it like it was a song on repeat for hours and never get bored of it.
“well make the most out of this as you can because-“ you were cut off by a turn of the doorknob, the both of your necks snapping towards the sound and rushing to get off of each other and fixed neatly. “hm? it’s locked? that’s weird, i could have sworn i unlocked it this morning..” you could hear one of the other lifeguards say, remembering that he went by the name of eric. he was new on the job. “should we go-“ juyeon shushed you by pressing his lips against yours, his long arms trapping you in between the island and his body.
knew exactly why he did this. first, he didn’t want eric to find out about you and him by making any noise. second, he really wanted you. third, he still really wanted you.
you couldn’t complain since this is what you had been waiting for, for literally the entire week. but the more your jobs lifeline stayed on your mind, the more this moment with juyeon was getting ruined by your overgrowing worry. you lightly pushed on juyeon’s chest, him getting the message to back away even though he didn’t want to. he chased your lips in a way that had you melting at his small pout when he sadly didn’t get what he enjoyed the most. “hm?” he hummed questioningly. you pointed to the door, his eyes following your finger and then trailing back to you. “he’s going to get the boss to come unlock the shed. if we don’t go, they’ll find us,” you whispered.
juyeon’s frown grew deeper as he laid his head on your shoulder, his arms wrapping around your waist in a cuddling hug.
“juyo..” you nicknamed him. “please, we have to go,” you whined which he only whined back to you.
“but i haven’t got to hold you in so long..”
“i know but if we get in trouble, we won’t be able to do this anymore at all.”
he knew exactly what you meant by that. how could he not forget when that point was the only thing keeping your relationship alive? you see, you had strict parents that forced you to take this job over the summer to stay fit for your future collage plans. if they knew you had a boy distracting you from granting their wishes for you to be successful, they would probably hunt the boy down and assume the worst of him in trying to “corrupt” you. as for juyeon, his parents just moved a lot. this was the one place that his parents had settled in for a long while. you remember for a good bit of summers, he wouldn’t even attend work until weeks after it starts back up again because his parents make so many unexpected family trips.
you always missed him the most at those times.
so with his family always moving, he doesn’t have time for dating. and with your parents being way too baring, you also didn’t have time for dating.
this time of year was the only time when you two could hold an established relationship.
you minded it a lot, obviously. but there was nothing either of you could do until you escaped from your parents.
he let out a quiet sigh, his arms wrapping tighter around you for a long few seconds before backing away. “i’ll see you at lunch break?” he asked, you nodded.
he went out first, not wanting anyone to be suspicious by the both of you coming out together. if anyone were to see. it didn’t take long for eric to come back with the boss and his key, which you had already left by then. you probably should start meeting juyeon else where if people are going to start getting suspicious of why the shed is locked.
the day was short. you enjoyed your job and there was not a lot to make this job boring for you as the ocean was always something that you had a deep connection with. you remembered as a kid how splashing around in the shallow water was your favorite thing to do. finding sea shells and even small tiny crabs was something you did often and to this day you still have a collection of all of the pretty and unique shells displayed around your room.
you wished that you could maybe take juyeon to see them, one day.
as lunch was starting to draw near, you packed up your things from your stand and announced that it was now the lifeguard break. you didn’t really have to do that but it was always sort of a habit when you used to guard the kiddy pool in your neighborhood back when you were a teen.
that was far before your parents moved to the beach rather than just visiting every summer.
you wanted to find juyeon but you knew you couldn’t start running after him and risk the both of your images. in reality, you probably shouldn’t have cared so much about others. but you kind of had to with the way all of the employees gossiped and tattled on each other. that was one of the biggest downsides to this job, in your opinion. although, it didn’t matter. it just meant that you could stay the loyal award winning lifeguard of the week along with juyeon as your runner up.
since it’s was the end of the week, you could probably guess exactly where you were heading.
“hi,” a very familiar voice said mellowly to you, his hand moving around your waist once more. your head snapped around the two of you, trying to catch if anyone were around.
“juyeon-“
“shh, it’s okay, no one is around.”
ever since you met him, he had grown to be quite the risk taker. not that you were upset at that, you could guiltily admit that the risk was fun to take. but sometimes it could be a little too risky… if you knew it was too easy to get caught, then it ruined the whole fun for you.
the last thing you wanted was someone to go off and tell your parents about the secretive things you’ve been doing while attending here. they’d never let you have this job ever again.
“we’re in the middle of the lounge, someone is going to come..” this was the exact place that every friday at noon, the lifeguard of the week would be announced. it was currently 10 minutes till noon. juyeon knew better than to pry at you with how clingy he is. well… sometimes. he always knew when to do it and when not to do it. now and back in the shed we’re great examples of that. “mm okay but you’re not getting away from me when we eat,” he whined to which you playfully rolled your eyes. “fine.”
during the entire ceremony, juyeon admired you from the back of the room, watching as everyone cleared a pathway when your name was announced for ‘LOTW’ (lifeguard of the week). he smiled to himself, clapping whenever everyone else clapped as you had gotten the award several times that month. “why is it that only she and juyeon get the awards?” a girl whispered in front of him. “because they think they’re better than us because they stay after extra to help clean the place so it’s spotless for boss the next day. they probably think that just because they’re both rich, they can bribe the boss to get on his good side and give them the dumb award.” juyeon was in flames. you watched him as you came down the same body edging aisle, making your way next to juyeon and letting your attention be taken by his hard gaze on the two girls. did he even realize you had come back? “i’m sure that’s not true,” the girl whispered back. “i’m sure it is! our boss is a shit person to the rest of us! but those two? ugh. they make me sick thinking about their faces.” you could tell that juyeon was threatening to let his emotions out on the two girls. you never really knew him as a violent person so believing that he’d get so angry to say something was hard. but you were kind of curious what that side of juyeon was like.
unfortunately, as much as you’d like to stay and watch juyeon have a whole meltdown over some girls talking trash about the two of you, you were interrupted by a sudden buzz coming from inside your pocket.
“i have to go take this,” you whispered to juyeon which had his growing anger fading into a concerned look whenever you gestured to your buzzing phone. your dreaded picking up the phone for the contact displayed.
quietly slipping out of the gathering room and into the main hall. you picked up the call, your mothers voice booming so loud that you had to hold the phone away from your face. “hello?” you answered as you could barely understand the amount of rambling your mother was doing, you could hear your father trying to calm her down in the background. “mom?” you called.
“y/n! you have some explaining to do!”
“what do you mean?”
“don’t act like you don’t know what i’m talking about.”
“i really don’t-“
you felt a buzz from your phone again, making you pull the device away from your ear and gasping as the message. it was a picture of you and juyeon in the shed sent by someone anonymous. who could have sent you something like this and how did they even manage to get it? was there a hidden camera in there? was someone hiding in there? was this what your mother was so upset about?
“explain the picture.”
you didn’t know what to say. the anxiety was starting to boil over as you could feel your entire future falling apart. this was it. the truth you had been hiding from your parents for so long. it was 3 summers ago that you had met juyeon and now was finally the time you were going to tell them about your little relationship with the one man they always told you to better than. as if things couldn’t get any worse than they already were, the ceremony finally ended and people rushed out of the small gathering room that you mistakenly stood in front of like an idiot. the doors flung open and you were nearly trampled by the amounts of guards that were hungry for food. you nearly fell when someone bumped into you so hard that you dropped your phone, watching as it slid across the floor, hitting and bouncing against many feet. by the time the crowd cleared, you were sure your phone was probably broken or at least hung up on your mother with the amount of times it had gotten stepped on. “oh no..” you knelt down to pick up your shattered phone screen, frowning as you knew exactly what you were going to come home to today. “y/n?” you heard that all too familiar voice call out to you.
you turned to him. you weren’t even sure if you wanted to see him right now. you knew he did nothing wrong but you couldn’t bare to tell him what happened or what was going to happen between you two. “juyo…” you nearly broke down, which he came to your side for comfort. “what happened?”
you were silent for a long time as you just cried against his shoulder in the middle of the hallway. everything was over. you didn’t care who saw anymore. you were going to go home today and your parents are going to tell you to quit your job and probably never let you see another mans face again. just why did you have to be born in such a protective family?
“we can’t see each other anymore… like, ever.”
and that was when, he felt a buzz in his pocket. he pulled out his phone and his eyes widened the same way yours had when you opened that anonymous text message.

FLASHBACK
“don’t you think you’re going a little too overboard? at this rate, you’re going to gain some kind of disorder,” you sat with your chin resting in the palm of your hand as you watched your best friend, feng, continue to whine and complain about her body.
you swore you had never seen her whip her head around so fast. “what?! overboard? psh, as if,” she waved off but was awkwardly cut off when a loud rumble erupted from her stomach. you raised a brow, her expression lowering to a pout.
“okay, and what about it?” she stuck her chin out at you.
“you’re going to get sick.”
“so? it’s worth it.”
your eyes trailed from head to toe and pressed your lips together with tension. how could she possibly care more about her image over her health?
“what are you even doing this for? doesn’t your rich family already force you to keep a healthy diet?” you asked, lifting your head out of your hand and instead, leaning back in the comfort of your chair. “which makes it even easier to loose all of this fat!” it was silent for a moment as your friend took her sweet time to check herself out in the long body mirror she had behind her overly decorated door. “anyways,” you waited for her go on with her sentence. “you know that boy that sits in the back of your arts class?”
“oh my god.”
“no, listen!”
“i’m leaving.”
“please!” she pouted.
you still sent her the most uninterested look known to man. but with one hard eye roll and loud groan, you sunk down into your chair. “go on.”
“good!” her emotion changing within seconds. “i heard he likes girls on the smaller side. the ones with small waists and tiny faces! minjoo told me so last week! i’m setting goals for myself,” she shot her brightest smile and swayed around her room as she went on and on about the likes and dislikes she had heard from others about this boy. this boy that had been the talk of the school since he moved into the fine arts department. the exact one that had many other girls soothing over him when he didn’t even do as much as even look their direction. sure, he was good-looking but was that really all anyone needed to fall head over heels for someone?
“minjoo? as in the minjoo that supposedly dated and dumped juyeon after 2 days because he was too ‘quiet’?” you raised your brow again, this time tilting your head down in a ‘you’ve got to be joking’ kind of way. “yes! her!” feng smiles. “as if two days is enough time to learn all about someone’s likes, dislikes, turn-ons, turn-offs!” you sighed. “have you even talked to him before?”
feng shook her head which only had you rolling your eyes for probably the 5th time this morning.
“i was planning on asking you to help me approach him..?” she tangled her fingers together in front of herself, shrugging up her shoulders in a pleading manner. “i know it’s a stretch to think i have a chance with him but please!” she begged. “why me?” she knew how much you hated things like this. much less men. you’d never be able to understand them. “because you love me~!” she shot you the biggest smile as she took your hands into hers. you gave her a playful and shocked expression, “ain’t no way you just pulled that card on me.”
her glued on poker face seemed to prove you wrong.
pushing her away, you stood up and crossed your arms in front of her and with one deep sigh, “what do i get out of this?” you asked.
payment was expected for hard and excruciating work.
“i’ll do all of your house work including running hall errands for you during the school day for a month!”
“two months.”
“a month and one week?”
“listen, i’m getting involved with a man for you.”
“okay okay!! a month and a half.”
“cool, now go get me a soda.”
“what?! but i said during the school day!” she complained while you wandered over to the bed. falling down into it with a satisfied grunt. “and technically we have class in 30 minutes, so you better get the drink quick so we can walk there in less than a hurry,” you replied which had her shuffling her way to the door.
PRESENT TIME
you didn’t really know why you agreed to this. why you didn’t just gather up everything in you to just tell her no and get on with your life. it would have been easier for you. without feng around, it was awkward to see juyeon’s face around. neither of you went out of your way to say hi to each other but you could feel his eyes staring into the back of your head during classes.
without feng, you would have no business with juyeon at all.
so why was he the one to invite you to your departments celebration party for winning 1st in competition during winter break? saying that he needed to discuss something with you in private?
especially when he was already dating your best friend?
what exactly was he in need of telling you so badly?
sucking up a large sigh, you swung open the door to the korean bbq place everyone had agreed to meet at. you were a little surprised by the amount of people this place agreed to let in but it seemed to be the class presidents last resort since many in the class were still too young to go clubbing. luckily, not everyone showed up.
“y/n!” a familiar voice called, gesturing you over to the table.
you sat at the end, not wanting to be squished in between anybody who reeked of alcohol and grease. you insisted on getting a table for yourself but the staff wouldn’t let you as they were already finding a hard time serving your department as it was. maybe it would have been easier to just not come. while juyeon was the one to invite you, he didn’t seem to be anywhere around the tables that were already set.
“hey, where’s juyeon?” you asked the girl sitting next to you. “i think he said he was running a bit late.”
speaking of juyeon, your head whipped around when you heard your department cheering for his arrival. he looked winded and messy coming in through the door but he shot a happy smile when everyone was glad to see him. you rolled your eyes at how obnoxious everyone was being.
unfortunately, you had to give up your edge seat and slide further down the booth for him to sit down. it was the only space that was left.
yeah, you really shouldn’t have come.
claustrophobia was overcoming you as you could feel juyeons cold pressing against your side. “i’m glad you could come,” he turned towards you. “i’m glad you could come late,” even without looking his way, you could feel his expression falling into a frown.
it was silent amongst you two. you really didn’t have much to talk about with him considering you only knew each other through feng. only chiming in when the guys across from you both had interesting things to comment on. the reek of alcohol became stronger as you started to get more and more out of it with each sip.
it went on like that for a while before your attention was caught by the girl next to you suddenly banging her hands on the table. “soojin?” you called out her name over the booming music. “are you okay?” you asked half-slurred. before you knew it, she had turned towards you and spilled whatever she had eaten that night all into your lap. the guys around the table all backing away with disgust and shock. but you were paying no attention to them and only at the pool of vomit seeping through the thickness of your clothes. your eyes trailed up to the girls in front of you before she slurred some “im sorry”’s before slumping back against the booth.
“oh my god, i think im going to throw up,” one of the guys across from you slapped his hand over his mouth. to which the other guy had yelled out an abundant of curses for him not too.
you were still in shock. you could feel the warm liquid seeping far enough to touch your bare skin, that alone making you want to wake the girl up and sock her right in the nose for putting you in such a disgusting situation. if it wasn’t for your hazy mind, you probably would have. suddenly, you felt a pair of hands on your legs making you nearly jump out of your seat, but you just tensed when you realized it was juyeons, scraping the chunks off of your pants with a thick handful of napkins. it wasn’t long before he grabbed your hand and dragged you to the mens bathroom, not even having the mind to argue with his actions.
“im sorry, y/n.”
was he apologizing for touching you? or forcing you into the bathroom with him? or maybe inviting you to this overly crowded korean bbq?
“i have spare clothes in my car. do you think you’re okay enough to wait here while i go get them?” he asked, looking into your hooded eyes. “im not fucking five. i don’t need your help,” you shrugged his protective arm off of you and headed for the door. “wait!” juyeon grabbed your wrist, making you whip your head around. “you have shit all over you. please, let me help you.”
technically he did get you into this situation. even if he didn’t know something like this was going to happen.
“fine. just hurry,” you huffed. “its already embarrassing enough just standing here in front of you like this..” you mumbled as your arms coiled around your body.
just as so, juyeon didn’t take long. he came back to hand you a change of clothes, even adding a pair of socks to the pile. patiently waiting outside the family stall as you took your sweet time changing, you grumbled with each peel of damp clothing off of your body.
“juyeon?” you called.
“yeah?”
“can you hand me a wet paper towel?”
within seconds, you shuffled over to take the wet cloth out of juyeon’s hands from under the stall door. “thanks.” it took you a while to wipe yourself down, trying not to stumble over every time your mind started to give in to the heavy alcoholic haze overcoming you but soon enough, you flushed the paper down the toilet and shrugged on the loose fitting clothes into your body.
“please, let me take your clothes home and wash them for you,” he insisted the moment you unlocked the stall door. his eyes locking on his oversized clothes quite literally engulfing your figure. it took you a moment to register his staring, much less his words. but once you did, you just scoffed and crossed your arms over yourself. “stop staring you perv,” you fixed a hardened gaze on him. “forget it, just, thank you for the clothes.”
“wait!” he stopped you after you had pushed past him.
“ugh, what now?”
“how are you getting home?”
“why do you care?” you asked with a raise of your brow. “because if you plan on driving home, you’re way too drunk to be driving,” he exclaimed. “its fine, ill just take a taxi or something,” you said before rushing out of the bathroom, this time not giving him the time to stop you. “oh? y/n? why did you just come out of the boys- hey!” you pushed past your classmate rudely just to get out of there. you could care less about the many voices calling for you, not wanting you to leave so soon. you were done with ‘parties’.
you just wanted the embarrassment to stop.
the next few days seemed to go by normally. along with the next month or two. nothing out of the ordinary seemed to happen and primarily just went back to your daily school work and boring life. feng and juyeon were together per usual and you stayed silent for a lot of their interactions. the only times you seemed to see juyeon without feng around was whenever he happened to pass by you in the halls or in class but other than that, it became a common occurrence that juyeon joined in on you and feng’s time together. it annoyed you a lot, especially when feng never gave you the option to leave when she wasn’t even paying attention to you in the first place.
actually, the annoying part wasn’t the two of them together, necessarily, it was more so juyeon that wanted to get your attention outside of that time that started to get you annoyed of the times when he was with you and feng. for example, the multiple times he begged you during class to lend your notes to him, or the times he asked you to do the bare minimum like open his milk carton for him during lunch, or even the time he made you walk 5 blocks down the street during a heatwave just to return his clothes to him while he was working.
as much as you hated him for wasting your time, the more you started to have less of a reason to want to hate him with the efforts he made in occupying your time.
but of course, at the end of the day, he still belonged to your best friend.
you found it easier to block them out with the help of your headphones and laptop. your music and videos was much more worth it than some guy and his obsessive girlfriend.
oh, you mean, your best friend.
you sat quietly as you were trying your best to block out the distracting noise coming from the two of them, focusing more on your homework that was giving you more of a headache than their love language. you brushed it off for as long as you could before you sighed and stood up, the scrapping of your seat against the floor made feng crank her neck towards you.
“where are you going?” she asked. “home, i can’t focus here and my head is killing me,” you replied, packing up your stuff as the enormous pile of books weighed you down everyday.
you failed to notice juyeon’s visible concern.
“oh okay,” she shrugged.
“feel better.”
you and juyeon shared eye contact with each other for a few seconds before heading off. you didn’t know why but something about that sounded like it had much more of a deeper meaning than just a get well wish.
when you got home, you were relieved with how still your house was. it started to subside your headache. but your relaxation was cut short when you felt a buzz in your pocket.
juyeon:
that’s quite the amount of stress you have packing on
you:
what?
juyeon:
the books
you’ve been working non-stop on papers for the past three days, you really deserve a break
you:
i’ll be fine, it’s nothing to worry about
you stared at the messages for a few seconds before realizing he probably wasn’t going to say anything else. putting your phone to your side, you sat up on your bed with a deep sigh. “i’ll probably just take some pain killers and work some more..” you mumbled to yourself, rubbing your palms over your tired eyes.
another buzz caught your attention.
juyeon:
meet me in 10 in the loft.
the period scared you.
15 MINUTES LATER
you arrived in the loft as told, figuring that there would be no reason to ignore it when you knew he’d probably just come to your house if you didn’t answer.
he was really confusing sometimes.
“juyeon?” you called.
the lights were still off. had you gotten there too early? surely not, a walk from your house to the studio was 15 minutes, not 10.
“juyeon, this isn’t funny. let’s just make this quick.” you called again, this time stating your conditions. you were about to get fed up with waiting before you suddenly felt something cold splash onto your back, making you yelp and jump forward, whipping your head around in the plain darkness. you could see a dark silhouette and quickly made it out to be juyeon’s slender figure. “what the fuck?!” you cursed before the lights were flashed on. your eyes having to take a moment to adjust to the sudden change.
he was laughing. crying, even. looking at yourself, you realized he had thrown white paint on you seeing as he still had the bucket in his hands.
you were not going to let him get away with this.
“you little shit,” you cursed again before taking all of your anger and grabbing the first bucket you saw and prying open the top, chasing juyeon around the room and successfully whisking the liquid onto him. you both when back and forth, the challenge becoming so much that you soon started to forget about your troubles, about your work, about feng and even the ones deep down that you didn’t want to admit.
this was the most fun you’ve had in a long, long, time.
“please! have mercy!” juyeon cried with added laughter as you continued to pour, purple, paint onto him. “you’ve brought this upon yourself,” you laughed before he tried pushing you away from him, somehow fully knocking you over in the process and bringing himself down along with you.
he shielded your fall with his hands behind your back and head but once he came to realization as to what position you were in, his eyes widened and his whole body tensed up. yours did the same.
it was silent. the short few moments of you both having fun was turned into long and breathtaking moments. not to mention how close he was to you, what it felt like to have his fingers tangled in your hair, what it felt like to hear both of your hearts beating the same cadence in this silent room. you watched as his eyes trailed from yours, down to your lips, and then back up. the look he was giving you was almost inviting but also scared.
you really didn’t know how to describe this feeling.
in a panic, you broke the moment to trail your hands up the tiny space between you both to quickly smear what paint you had left on your hands. the colors mixing into his caramel tone and making him not any less beautiful than he already was.
maybe you were starting to see what girls saw in this man.
“hey..!” he whined, smacking your hands off of him. he squinted his eyes at you challengingly, but just gave you a sly smirk instead.
it was hard to believe this was the same timid guy from a few days ago.
helping you to your feet, he ran his fingers through his dry but, at the same time, wet, hair. “how do you feel?” he asked.
“definitely better, no more headache.”
“that’s good. that was the goal,” he smiled and fixed himself up. just as you were about to straighten your clothes, you paused and looked up at him. “wait, you brought me here just for that?” you asked.
“don’t get mad. i was just trying to-“
“i’m not mad. it’s just.. i thought you wanted to talk.”
“about what?”
you rolled your eyes at his stupidity.
“about whatever it was you wanted to tell me a couple months back? you never ended up telling me.”
it took him a second to try and think back on it, but eventually he did.
“yeah because you left before i could!” he protested. you giving him yet another eye roll. “well i’m here now so what was it?”
he hesitated. you could tell by the way he was looking around at anything but you that the same timidness from before was back.
“juyeon?” you called out to him, awaiting his answer.
“feng proposed to me.”
the silence was long. extremely long. nothing could express the amount of shock and unknown pain that you were overcome with. you swore you felt your heart sink down into the pit of your stomach.
“what..?” you refused to believe it.
“she proposed to me. a week ago. after 5 months of dating and she’s waiting for my answer on our 6th month anniversary.”
“which is when?”
“…today.”
you wanted nothing more than for the world to open up from underneath you and swallow you whole. what was feng thinking? what were you thinking? how could you get flustered over some boy who you barely know? especially one who was about to get engaged to your best friend. one that you helped your best friend get together with!
“well, what are you going to say?” you asked, you could feel your blood starting to boil with anger. but not knowing where exactly it was coming from. but you tried your best to sound calm and collected as your biggest fear was probably him finding out that you were lowkey crushing on him, this way.
“i don’t know yet,” juyeon murmured. “i was going to ask you.”
“why do you need to ask me for advice on your own personal problems?”
“because.”
“because?”
“because!”
“i’m not following.”
you could tell he was starting to get riled up. “because i’m not sure if i actually like her!” he screamed. to your own shock, you could tell he was holding in those exact words for a long while.
“so.. you played her?” you weren’t sure wether to feel relieved or pissed off about that. “or i guess.. playing her?” you switched to present tense.
“i don’t know..” he ran his hands down his face in frustration. “i just.. im not sure if i’m ready for marriage? but knowing her, if i reject her, she’ll think i don’t love her anymore and i don’t want to have that sort of confusion within our relationship all of the time. she already thinks i talk to you too much,” he sighed.
feng thinks he talks to you too much? since when has she ever been around to see the both of you have a consistent conversation other than about school work?
whatever, you didn’t want to worry about that right now. you had a boy stressed out of his mind right in front of you. “juyeon, it sounds more to me that you’re just in a toxic relationship.”
it was silent for a moment as all he did was just stare at the ground but as much as he didn’t want to agree with you, he knew you were right. “what should i do?” he asked. but he already knew what your answer was going to be… and you didn’t want to give him that kind of heartbreak. “do what you feel is right,” you said softly. you hesitated but after a while, you snaked your arm around his back and rubbed light circles onto his shoulder blades. he lowered himself to your height and buried his face into your shoulder, his arms wrapping around you into a deep hug. he didn’t cry, but you could tell he was confused and hurt. this had been bothering him for quite some time.
cutting the relaxing hug short, you were met with his eyes as your own filtered with confusion. “are you feeling better now?” you asked. “no,” he replied. as you were about to open your mouth to respond, he quickly furthered your confusion as he captured your lips into a soft kiss. your eyes growing wide in utter shock as you didn’t know what to do with your hands. much less your anything else. this was the first time you had ever kissed someone. or.. be kissed by someone. nonetheless, with your little knowledge from the various kdramas you had watched in your time, you closed your eyes and tried to act like you knew what you were doing. luckily, juyeon sensed your embarrassment and swiftly led your arms around his neck as he did all of the work for you. leading the kiss into soft multiple ones that had you getting the flow down instantly. after about a minute or so, you broke away, or maybe he did. you couldn’t tell with how hazed your mind was right now.
“are you.. feeling better now?” you asked for the second time.
you didn’t get an answer.
“did you have a talk with feng?” you asked juyeon as the two of you walked into class together, having conveniently run into each other in the hallway. “i don’t want to talk about it,” he sighed out, though it sounded more of like a groan. luckily for you, you sat right in front of juyeon so you didn’t have to cut the conversation short.
“you should just be honest with her, it’s the better option.”
he agreed yet he still looked so troubled.
“don’t tell me you were planning to do it through text-“
“do you really think that lowly of me?”
well… considering he got himself into this whole mess…
“please don’t just bare through it when you know it won’t work out. that’s possibly the worst thing you could do,” you sighed, reaching your hand out to place on top of his in a comforting way. but he snatched his hand away with such force that it had you even more confused than before.
did he not want to be around you? if so, then why did he kiss you?
“am i just that bad at kissing?” you said half-heartedly but you were immediately shut down by juyeon who hushed you. “don’t say it so loud!” he whisper-yelled at you. you understood that he didn’t want anyone to know that he technically cheated on his girlfriend—which you still weren’t sure if you were happy or upset about—but he didn’t have to reject your comfort when you tried to give it to him for his sake. “then what is it?” he rubbed at his temples, “y/n, i think she already knows.”
juyeon sighed and stared down at his fingers that sat in his lap. when he felt like he could muster up the courage to tell you more, he glanced around one time just to make sure no one was within close enough range. “today, before school, she told me that as soon as we got married with our parents approval.. she wanted to move abroad and start a family. she kept going on about how much of a future she wanted with me and i wasn’t sure how to respond to it all. i got so stressed out that i ended up snapping at her and walking away.” he shifted awkwardly in his seat as if he was waiting for the moment his girlfriend would walk in through that door despite not sharing a single class together. “she didn’t chance after me like she usually does when we have arguments,” he said.
for as long as you knew feng, she had always been an overbearing person. she was a very ‘up in your face’ kind of girl and that’s what made people either really like her or really hate her.
hearing about how she bombarded juyeon with such a wide topic, you could only imagine how he must of felt.
luckily, she knew her place when it came to conversations with you. it was a blessing.
“that’s good, though!” you exclaimed. “it would make it easier for you to break it off.”
“i just cant stop thinking about what she’d say if she found out i kissed her best friend on the day of our 6 months,” he sighed and cupped his hands over his face, leaning forward onto the desk.
your attention was caught when you felt a buzz in your back pocket. pulling out your phone, you were greet by a message from your best friend. except.. maybe said best friend, didn’t want to be best friends anymore.
“oh no..” you trailed off.
“what?” juyeon asked, peeking at you from between his fingers.
you hesitated for a long minute but eventually flipped your phone around enough for him to view the screen.
SYNOPSIS; jacob wants to ask you something that has been on his mind for a while but he isn’t sure how to ask.
PARING; jacob x reader
GENRE; fluff, drama, short story
WORD COUNT; 0.7k
TAGS/WARNINGS; highschool crush!jacob, reader has a lesbian bsf, reader and jacobs relationship is formed basically only on notes.
AUTHORS NOTE; the way that when i thought of this au, i actually screamed
swinging open your locker for the 5th time that day, you were excited to see the note that was sitting at the pit of it. usually your notes were scattered all over the place, wherever your secret admirer knew you were going to be next. and right now, they seemed to guess right as you always had to go to your locker after lunch time.
flipping open the folded paper, you smiled when you read the kind and familiar handwriting forming the sweet words you always looked forward to reading.
yes, you knew who your secret admirer was. and he knew that you knew.
it didn’t take long for the two of you to figure out, but once you did, both of your relationships were formed solely through paper and pen. the sudden change to be talking in person was definitely out of your general comfort zone. you had already told him so much through pen that you become nervous whenever you see him up close.
besides, the love letters made for some pretty good and cringy reads.
“you really need to confess and get this over with,” your friend said, coming up from behind you.
you jumped at the sudden voice.
“last time i checked, you still have a crush on my lab partner and haven’t confessed yet soooo..” you snickered, folding the note into your pocket and rummaging through your locker for a loose paper. “that’s because she doesn’t even know me!” your friend exclaimed to which you rolled your eyes. “sure she does, you’ve made your existence clear on many occasions.”
you laughed, remembering the way your friend embarrassingly introduced herself and tried to make a move and all of them being failed attempts.
“my favorite is the time you tripped over your shoelaces and fell on her, i can’t believe her mom threatened to call the police on you for accidentally spraining her wrist!”
“it was a serious matter! i swear i apologized a million times.”
“right, especially when you-“
you were cut off by a familiar sweet voice. “hey y/n.” you spun around, your eyes growing wide when you locked eyes with the one person you weren’t sure if you were happy or scared to see. you could feel the dark smirk burning into your back from your friend. “i- uhh- hey! jacob..” you stuttered. you felt so stupid. why could you never hold a lasting conversation with him?
you watched him carefully as his eyes trailed from you, to your friend behind you, somehow exchanging silent messages. “ah, i’ll get going now, see you in class, y/n!” your friend waved you off.
you wished she hadn’t of left.
it was silent for a few moments now with your friend gone, you played with your fingers, still holding onto that loose paper that you had been looking for just a minute ago.
“was that going to be for me?” jacob asked, gesturing to the blank page in between your finger tips. you nodded, not trusting yourself to not stutter in front of him. you could tell he was starting to get uncomfortable with the awkward silence as he kept shifting from one foot to the other. you felt awful for making him feel such a way.
“can i write something on it?” he asked, you quickly extended your arm out to him. he giggled, the vocals warming your heart in a way that nobody else’s could.
you handed him a pen and he got to writing, you waited patiently for him to finish.
once he was done, he handed you the pen back. “i’ve been wanted to ask this for a while.. but i wasn’t sure how to ask it. i wasn’t sure if paper and pen would be enough or if it would be too weird to say it in person but..” he trailed off before flipping the paper over for you to silently read. your eyes widened and your cheeks grew into a deep rosy blush.
‘will you go on a date with me?’ the note read.
you were speechless. you nearly dropped the pen that you were holding.
“well, what do you say?” jacob asked, your attention catching onto him.

“and fuck you too!” you yelled as you watched your landlord practically throw your stuff out of your shitty apartment into the dusty hallway, her disappearing around the corner after she was done with you. you couldn’t believe you had gotten kicked out of your apartment just because you got on the landlords bad side.
taking in a deep breath, you squatted down to pick up your stuff. as you were practically shoving your thrown out clothes into your suitcase, your attention was caught when your next door neighbor, opened his door.
“changmin..?” you squinted your eyes at him, your head tilting with curiosity. “uh, yeah?” he raised a brow at you, leaning on his doorframe as he stared at your hunched over figure. “you’re my neighbor?” you asked as he took a long wif of his cigarette and puffed it out into the dirty halls.
“you mean i was your neighbor? seems like you just got kicked out.”
“well- i mean- yeah.. i did… but why do you care?”
“i don’t, you were the one who brought it up.”
why did being around him always have to make you get the worst second hand embarrassment ever?
“i just came out here to see what all of the yelling was about but now that i know it was just you, i’m not as interested anymore,” he sighed and turned around, about to shut his door when his attention was caught by the sudden cling to his door handle. “wait!” he groaned and rolled his eyes.
“what is it?”
“can i please stay the night? you’re the only person i know around here and i don’t want to be sleeping on the streets.”
it was already 10:58 pm, there was no way he could just let a young girl out on the streets with no way to protect herself!
he looked you up and down. on second thought, maybe it might have been better to just tend to the streets. “i’ll pass,” he tried closing his door again but you pushed against him.
“please!”
“what about your parents?"
“they live towns upon towns away, i couldn’t possibly be able to attend class with that amount of distance.”
“well that’s not my problem.”
“please.. i’ll do anything.”
as much as changmin hated girls who were persistent as hell and bothered him all of the time, there was no way he could pass up on a girl at his doorstep who was begging to stay the night and willing to do anything to do so.
“anything, you say?”
you nod frantically, unsure of what crude things he had in mind.
“fine.”
“thank you!”
you breathed out before practically barging in past him and dropping your stuff inside. the place reeked with smoke and other substances that didn’t smell anything like normal cigarettes, stains upon stains on his couches and crevices, empty and moldy dishes lying around that made you honestly want to pick up your stuff and actually sleep on the streets forever. but, he was kind enough to at least give you a roof so sleep under.
“so they’ll let you smoke as much weed as you want but they won’t let me paint the furniture white?” you raised a brow as you saw bags upon bags of substances stacked on his counter. he shrugged and put out his cigarette in the ash tray next to the door.
“so, where am i sleeping?” you asked, setting your things up neatly against the wall for now. “with me,” you nearly choked on your own spit.
“what?” he shrugged.
“you said you’d do anything to stay here, i say you let me have my way with you.”
“absolutely not.”
“then get out.”
“isn’t there anything else i can do for you? like, clean your house or pay most of the bill for you? i’d say both of those are pretty good options.”
you were both interrupted by an unexpected text chiming from changmin’s phone, him pushing past you to answer it. it took him a couple of minutes to read it, his expression contorting into a furrowed and stressed out one. “on second thought,” he set his phone down after hitting send on his phone. “i have something different i want you to do instead.”
SYNOPSIS; felix loves astronomy, he lives for it. he could probably point out every star alignment that shows. but when he comes across a lonely girl shivering in the spring of winter, he can’t help but want to share that same love.
PARING; felix x reader
GENRE; fluff
WORD COUNT; 1.4k
TAGS/WARNINGS; royalty au, prince!felix, noble!reader, reader is insecure, one set scene.
AUTHORS NOTE; inspired by one taehyun fanfic i read by an amazing author but i couldn’t find the link 🥹.
felix took a deep sigh of relief the moment he stepped outside to admire the beautiful night sky, a cloud of heat escaping past his lips.
it was painted with stokes of dark navy and sparkled white dots shimmering across, the terrance was chilled with a soft frost. it was euphoric. the only thing that was different was the small girl chattering her teeth near the bench on the other side of the balcony.
he raised a brow. what human would be leveled enough to want to step out in freezing weather without a coat on?
a light “achoo!” perked his attention even more, his actions thinking before his brain.
“you must be insane or stupid to want to be out in weather like this,” he said informally. your attention being taken by his admiring complex as you snapped your head around to see who the owner of this unfamiliar voice was. “who are you?” you asked, informally back.
he didn’t answer with his name but instead shrugged off his thick fur coat, draping it over your quivering shoulders.
you blushed but it was masked with your already pink face, it must have been from your forming cold. instead of asking him any more, you awaited for him to.
he took a seat next to you, your eyes glued on him while his own trailed from the glowing city below to the twinkling stars above. “what are you doing out here?” he asked you.
you hesitated in answering. he was a complete stranger, why would you tell a stranger? but then again, he was a stranger. it’s not like you’d ever see him again. “its a stupid reason,” you sighed, hugging the coat he gave you. “maybe i like stupid,” he laughed.
you were just going to pretend what he said earlier didn’t matter.
“well now you can’t laugh once i tell you.”
“i don’t promise that.”
you gave him a hard stare but he just stared back, waiting.
you sighed and looked away, deciding that it didn’t matter either way. “no one told me i looked pretty tonight.” it was silent for a few moments, you wondered if he thought it was as stupid as you thought it was. to be sad over something so attention seeking was just embarrassing. you wouldn’t be surprised if he was repulsed by you. but then again, you both don’t even know each other and never will, so its not like it mattered too much.
he glanced at you, his eyes on you instinctively making you look back at him. “what..?” you asked, ready to go on a 5 minute tangent about how you came to be so upset over such a topic. quietly, he spoke.
“you look beautiful, tonight.”
the silence was long. longer than before, you weren’t sure how to take those words. to be happy that someone told you what you were hoping to hear or to not take it seriously since you had already told him what exactly you wanted to hear. deciding that the second option overruled the opposing, you just scoffed. “i know you’re just saying that because i told you,” you giggled.
“im serious.” was he? “i’ll be honest.. i couldn’t stand to see you sitting out here all alone, shivering. i originally came out here to stargaze but then i saw you. i couldn’t help but want to know about you.”
you didn’t know what to say. what do you say to something like this?
“what do you want to know?” you asked.
he glanced at you, a soft smile spreading across his pretty freckled face.
“who you are.”
“but you haven’t told me who you are.”
“that does seem to be an issue..”
he hummed, looking away with a sigh, his eyes glued on the city lights below. the view was beautiful. the twinkling lights from both above and below reminded you of the man next to you and his cute freckles. you could draw lines trying to connect them all night. it wasn’t until he looked back at you that you snapped out of your alluring trance. “i’m felix,” he spoke, your eyes widening in utter shock. “what?!” you stood up. “like- the 3rd kings son, lee felix???” you questioned him, your voice cracking from how dry your throat was. he nodded, you could tell his cheeks were flushed the same shade as pink as yours. you lowered your voice, squatting back down into your seat but your eyes still open wide. “i can’t believe i’m talking to the prince right now,” you were in disbelief.
now you really felt embarrassed for telling him what nearly made you cry tonight.
“a lot of people say that. the only thing is that no one recognizes me as the kings son until i tell them.” you fell quiet, not sure of what to say. “it’s my older brother who gets the most attention since he’s awarded the throne next,” felix didn’t sigh, or look uncomfortable at all. but you didn’t believe he wasn’t at least hurt. “that has to bother you, no?” you asked him. “a little but i’ve been numb to this feeling for a while,” he looked down at his hands, his fingertips red and frozen.
it was silent. the cool breeze brushing up on your clothed shoulders and across your nose, it seemed like it was going to start snowing soon if it got any colder.
sitting back down next to felix, you weren’t sure of what to say as you too, had fallen for the same inconvenience that everyone else does, when meeting felix. not even recognizing him for who he actually is. “you don’t have to feel bad, i actually kind of like it this way.” you turned to look at him. “being a prince isn’t always the luxury people imagine. i’m lucky enough to be that prince that no one knows of and can have my own freedom.”
you never thought about it that way but he was right, you couldn’t imagine being of such high class and not getting attention all of the time. so it was a blessing to have a royal life without the looming paranoia of eyes and voices surrounding you.
“i suppose i could see how you would like that,” you agreed with him. “but still, the title is nice to have.” he nodded in agreement.
it was an awkward silence for a while, the two of you enjoying the city sounds and faint voices below the terrance. you weren’t sure if fate existed nor were you sure of miracles but you swore that you had never felt more comfortable in this open space with a complete stranger than you ever had with anyone else. the soothing feeling having you sinking down against the bench and looking up at the night sky.
“do you like astronomy?”
the question caught you off guard. why would he be asking you a question like that? right now?
“uhm, i guess?” you questioned.
“you don’t have to say yes if you don’t,” he laughed.
“well now i’m curious!” you argued.
felix gestured up to the sky, his pointed finger guiding you. “you see that star right there?” you hummed in response. “see how it has a slight reddish tint? it’s actually not a star,” he pointed out. your surprised eyes only feeding his enjoyment.
“it’s actually a planet.”
“wow.. how do you know that?” you watched as felix cowered away with a soft blush to his cheeks. his hand reaching for the back of his neck. “i might be a bit of a space nerd..”
you would have never guessed the kings 3rd son would be into astronomy.
but then again, it wasn’t your place to assume such things of people.
“why are you bringing this up with me?” at the end of the day, you were still just strangers to each other. but for some reason.. something told you that he didn’t have anyone else to tell. “you just seemed like the right person to tell,” he smiled at you. his freckles lighting up in the moonlight in a way that had you connecting them like constellations.
there was nothing more surreal than watching the most beautiful man in front of you admire you the same way you admired him. you didn’t even realize you were staring at his lips until he caught attention to your own. giving in to his instincts, he slowly leaned in to capture your lips, you happily complying with him.
