Grimmauld Place was unsettling even with Kingsley’s familiarity with such places; gloomy as it was, he’d seen worse, and yet something about the black estate ran gentle fingers in an unsettling caress right under his skin. Steeling himself, Kingsley knocked on the door, hiding a surprised look when the door was answered by a stooping, glint-eyed house elf. 

He’d gotten too used to the Order and the company they kept, obviously. Rarely did one of their doors open without one of them being on the other side, and as Kingsley stepped inside he wondered wryly to himself why he had expected a proper pureblood family to be practical. His mother certainly’d had impractical times.

The Auror stowed his umbrella next to the door when motioned to in a grunting voice, and he followed the elf further into the house to what appeared to be some sort of drawing room or parlor room, with frighteningly correct furniture and delicate decoration. In the middle of it all, lounging in a manner that somehow the most intimidatingly correct of all, sat Walburga Black, and he couldn’t help but bow after a fashion towards her.

After explaining that he needed to talk to her son, as a measure to make sure he was feeling okay and to uncover any misdeeds done to him in the time he spent in the hands of his captives, the stately matriarch agreed. Kingsley made certain to assure her it was an apology from the Ministry as well as a sincere worry for the boy’s well-being. She sent the elf-- Kreacher, she’d sniffed-- and then had strode out of the room, not sparing Kingsley a second glance except to warn him not to upset Regulus.

With nothing else to do, Kingsley sat in the parlor and waited for the Hogwarts student to show.

No matter how hard you desperately try to sit still, your body refuses to obey. As soon as you close your eyes your body begins to shake as the gruesome images of blood and death flood your head once again. "I can't." you cry, "I can't do this!" The handsome profiler's face softens at your words. He reaches over, taking your hand in his as he slowly rubs his thumb across the top in a soothing manner. "You need to relax. By some miracle, you manage to calm yourself down and provide the profiler, Spencer Reid, with all of the information you have. "Close your eyes again." he orders softly. You obey, listening to the deafening silence in the room. 

You flinch as you feel his warm breath on your own lips.  "Can I kiss you?" he whispers, barely audible.  Your eyes remain shut as a small smile crosses your face and you nod your head. For a moment, you can't breathe as his soft lips caress yours. Then, you begin to kiss him back, slow and soft, staying in perfect rhythm with the young profiler.   You break away after a few seconds, engulfing each other in a hug. "Thank you, Dr. Reid." you smile into his shoulder. "You can call me Spencer."

Report everything - tell all the details you can recall even if it seems trivial

Recall from a different perspective - tell details from another persons point of view

Recall in reversed order - report the event in several orders moving backwards and forwards in time

2.1.3 Making a case, Interviewing Witnesses, Cognitive interview

Background

Up until the 1970's there was little to no police training for interviewing witnesses. This lead to standard interview techniques with the interviewer could interrupt the witnesses which could lead to information being put into their schema.

Cognitive interviews involves the witness being asked about the context and mood of the situation, telling the story backwards etc.

Kohnken showed that cognitive interviews are 40% more accurate than standard interviews.

Study - Fisher et al

Field experiment with 16 real detectives from Florida, each interviewing real witnesses,

Some detectives used standard interviewing techniques while some used cognitive.

Their interviews were recorded for the next 7 months.

They were transcribes by a team blind to the conditions and only the responses to the questions were given.

Results - > More information was gained through cognitive interviews and the extra information was not incorrect.

loftus was very clever because she proved that police interviews can lead witnesses to produce false statements which they genuinely believe because of false memory syndrome. like, she'd ask a question like 'did you see the white car smash into the blue car' and the use of the word 'smash' led the witnesses to 'remember' the car going fast - v cool
