col. fitzwilliam an underrated character
Regency Era Forcemasc when you find yourself befriending a soldier in town. He's charming, he's kind, he's introducing you to all of the young girls he talks to. The young ladies ask if he dances well, and he looks to you for support. The breath in your lungs quickly takes the form of praises, and on queue you insist you've never seen such a quick and rythymed dancer as your friend was at your last assembly. You're quite certain rythmed isn't a real word- but the ladies seem more preoccupied in their own giggling as they turn away.
A sturdy hand claps on your shoulder, as the two of you watch the ladies wander off to the shops in town, pattering on about ribbons. Your chest tightens and you lose track of your breathing as you listen diligently to your new friends approval and thanks. You feel a warmth grow as you smile, and while you regain your breath too can't help but worry about the fluttering that's taken root in your stomach.
He insists on accompanying you through your errands in town, and something in his eyes shines- no doubt with the promising prospect of chasing more skirt. Regardless of the logic you have in your head though, you let yourself enjoy the warmth of your arms wrapped around each other's shoulders as you walk down to the bookstore. After all, it is very good to make new friends, and truly who can resist a man in uniform? With how the tailored jacket held against his breast...
Your eyes may wander, but with your lips sealed, those private thoughts become your own treasures. Although, there is nothing wrong in drawing a ladies attention to his friend's best features- and so he must identify those features.
