College is expensive in the United States of America. Not just in straight up monetary ways though those are the biggest ones they see, but in ways parents don't think about now. Used to, it was easier to feed yourself, clothe yourself, house yourself. I know, I've done the necessary research to see what's going on. I've talked to my mother. My dad. My friends' parents. Now, they talk about the college 15 where you either gain or loose 15 pounds within the first semester. FIFTEEN POUNDS. That's a lot to change in three months. Either you ate well beforehand - veggies, fruits, natural foods - and gained by eating nothing but noodles because they're cheap and easy to find; or you loose because you've cut out SO MUCH, missing two meals a day just to make ends meet and you didn't eat much to begin with and even skipping a day here or there. How about where when your clothes are so threadbare, you double up just so you don't show off body parts that are no one's business but your own. Or where you're working poor trying to do all the things you need to survive and still can't afford a room to sleep in. How you camp in the car and campus security know you by name and know what's going on and let you kip in your vehicle while they keep an eye out. Where almost perfect strangers lend you a couch and a shower. How are we not taking a moment to realize that college is a fucking cesspool of loans and false advertising and a sanctioned anxiety inducing sideshow? We have marketable skills without going to college. It's easier and easier now to find the answers without buying out the rest of your life with fake money and useless papers claiming you're valid to do this damned job that won't hire you without five or seven or ten years experience anyway that no one wants you to get on their dime and even then, they're taking the ones that lie lie lie to their faces with smiles made of brittle ego and vicious competitiveness. I'm sitting here with a loan on my head that gets bigger and bigger each second because the government wants their money's worth and all I can think is that they're instituting a country of poverty to line their own egocentric pockets with the labors of everyone else and not doing a damned thing for themselves. It's frustrating. It's annoying because I'll be 90 and still paying it back and they'll milk all they can. It's tiring because the $400+ payment each month isn't doing little more than paying the "minimum". It's horrifying thinking my family would be left with the bill if I die suddenly. American College is a joke. Is a fucking lie for people just above the poverty line and below the millionaire status. They say this and promise that and give absolutely nothing.
