Obscure reference in Fic: Poncho Daken, the return!!!
It might have rung a bell for some people, but let’s explicit it for those who hadn’t, and wondered: why the hell did she pick that horrible-very-not-good attire for Daken in THE NEEDLES AND THE DAMAGES DONE… https://archiveofourown.org/works/31153718/chapters/76984808
“The guy lets his hand with the raised thumb fall to his side. But doesn’t exactly quicken his pace. Even looking in the rearview mirror, it’s hard to get an idea of his physic out of the fact that he is rather tall. The cowboy hat hides most of his upper face; his jaw is hardly visible but is also shadowed by wild sideburns. Longish dark hair float in the dusty wind. He wears a large poncho. The bright orange and yellow fabric wraps his upper body almost completely. A green and black scarf coiled around neck and shoulders completes the weird attire and hides part of his chin. Backpack and sleeping bag dangle in his back.”
Well, that’s there, folks, on the cover by Nick Bradshaw for Wolverines #9
So, for the pleasure, the textless version:
And, because in case you hadn’t noticed yet I AM A BIT OF A PROCESS JUNKIE… Totally per chance I saw this (below) on e-bay once (don’t know if it’s still there): the possible considered layouts by the artist for this cover. (For the anecdote, Daken never catches a break and always gets short-changed when it comes to daddy: I’m pretty sure it was told on the seller’s notice that it was Logan on the picture, lol!)
AND, because I’m a pea brain, while I was searching for the cover and couldn’t find it, I’ve found THIS in the series TPBs (below) too, in the fourth volume: the beginning of the character design process for this particular Daken (These character design doodles are by Ario Anindito, FYI.)
