I can now see how the setup for the wedding unwraps throughout the last issues of Gold and from Gambit’s important question in the last issue of R&G (that even Kelly Thompson said they tuned it so that it would lead to the wedding).
#30 is indeed a GREAT comic book issue. Not a single panel is wasted in the story. Art is wonderful. Everyone is in character and very fashionably dressed. Dialogue is spot on. Deadpool sneaks in the rehearsal dinner.
Coincidentally, I read something today in a blog I follow about marriages that work in the long term - if the person you want to marry is the one and doubts about whether what you have is going to last:
Doubts are normal and welcome, you should listen to them and don't underestimate them. The question is not "am I going to be with this person forever?", BUT "can I coexist with this person, taking important decisions together, for the next challenges I am going to meet?" Eros and Love do not matter so much for this, you can have a common vision with someone that you do not love at all. If there is a shared view about what is a good life and what is personal happiness, the chances to be with this person for more years increase.
Truth is, you can never be certain. I am not married (yet) but I know marriages that are good and work, because they have this aspect. Based on that, I think Kitty has such doubts, we will find out in #31. She loves Colossus, there is no doubt here, but they haven't worked out a common/shared vision.
Rogue and Gambit lived together for enough time to get to know each other and work on that shared vision. They share views on what is happiness, success, moving forward (Rogue inspires Gambit to be a better man, Gambit helps Rogue fight her insecurities). They always made a great team, go through challenges, have each other’s back even apart and they work very well together - in missions, as friends, as teammates. And I believe therapy in R&G has addressed many of their problems and helped them rebuild the trust to each other. I like what Gambit said, it's an affirmation, not a vow - he knows what he is doing.
Of course, they are both a bit crazy, but we love them for that, right?
It’s the best time to be a Rogue, Gambit and Jean fan.
