Remedial Chaos Theory Joke Analysis

Cause it’s 2am and I’m going through a Trobed brainrot

Okay, so it’s immediately obvious what the joke’s going to be, right? It’s gonna cut to the rest of the group, and each of the potential couples are gonna make ‘googly eyes’ at each other - there may or may not be a “silly” one at the end

Let’s see what actually happens:

Okay, so far, so expected

1) Annie and Jeff look at each other - duh, they’re the will-they-won’t-they the show’s trying to peddle right now

2) Annie then looks down - they’re currently at a won’t-they, and she doesn’t have any other potential love interests right now (Cause the writers are too cowardly to push Annie x Britta)

3) Jeff then looks at Britta - again, makes sense, given that they were hooking up until recently

4) Britta turns away from Jeff to look at Troy - she’s done with Jeff and she and Troy are the new couple the show’s trying to set up

5) Note that Troy is already looking at Britta - probably cause he seems more interested in her than she is in him right now (See: him checking her out as she goes to the bathroom in Timeline 5)

Now things get interesting

Troy turns away from Britta to look at Abed, and Abed is already looking at Troy

Okay, so this is the silly one, right? This is the end of the joke? The punchline?

Except no

This is the punchline. This is the silly one. The shot ends here, and this is where it pauses for a laugh

So by the logic the joke was going for, Abed is already interested in Troy at this point; and either Troy is too, has been at some point, or will be in future
