I contend that it is more logical to believe in the existence of God than to believe that humans can offer better solutions than Him.

Contend for prayer
I really like this phrase Tim Cameron used in his YouVersion devotional “10 Days Through The Prayers Of Jesus”: “contending for in my prayer life.”
Contend means to fight for something.
It’s interesting to see this in action. Peninnah taunted Hannah when she was approaching the tabernacle to worship God. Later in this same book, the Philistines got ready to attack when the Israelites were praying, fasting, and returning wholeheartedly to God. Were these incidences just a coincidence in timing? No way! The enemy of our souls know the strategic time to attack.
C.S. Lewis wrote, “While we are at prayer, but not while we are reading a novel or solving a crossword puzzle, any trifle is enough to distract us.” That’s why in Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters, where a seasoned demon is giving guidance to his young protege, Screwtape counsels Wormwood to remind his patient of all his other obligations whenever he starts getting serious about prayer.
So when we set aside a time to pray, the devil will bring taunts, adversaries, reminders of To-Do lists, and a million other distractions. We need to contend for our prayer time—allowing nothing to keep us from our time alone in God’s presence!

SPIRITUAL VITAMIN F: FIGHT “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called…” 1 Timothy 6:12 (NKJV)
Today’s Thought: Why does it say “fight”? Because some days it is a fight just to exercise our faith. Satan throws his darts, the world sets its snares, our flesh is weak, and so we become discouraged.
But…we need to remember that the battle is won in our minds!
Romans 12:2 says: And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Therefore, we must fight the good fight of faith AND contend with the daily cares and struggles of the Christian life! We need to remind ourselves that this life AND our daily circumstances are just temporary. The best is yet to come!
So, Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.Colossians 3:2 NKJV
Today’s Action: Today’s Vitamin F is Fight. Fight to focus on keeping your faith strong and healthy. Read the word and pray to strengthen your faith for “the just shall live by his faith.” Habakkuk 2:4 NKJV
Remember! We have an eternal life in Christ but we need to fight the good fight of faith while we are still alive here on the earth! So, let’s set our focus on keeping our faith fit today so we will be strong and able to “Fight the good fight of faith” today and everyday until we “lay hold on eternal life,…”
FAITH STRUGGLES AGAINST THE FLESH See that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:12
FAITH FIGHTS SATAN’S STRATEGIES above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. Ephesians 6:16
FAITH OPPOSES THE WORLD And this is the victory that has overcome the world–our faith. 1 John 5:4

SAT Vocab 54: Contend
verb (kən TÊND) to argue earnestly // to struggle in rivalry
“Man, why do you always contend with Steve?” you ask Tony one evening, as you are sitting in his lab, watching him work on something new. And exploding all the time.
“What do you mean?” he cuts his finger and swears, then smiles at you. “We are besties.”
“I am serious, Tony. You argue all the time, as you want to compete for his power over the team.”
“Of course no. I just don’t like him.”
“C’mon!”
“I only oppose him when he is wrong,” Tony shrugs his shoulders. “It is not my fault that he makes all those stupid decisions. And you have to agree that he often has no idea about what to do in this world,” you sigh and have to nod. “See?”
“Can’t you just be a tiny bit more friendly?” you ask him finally, and Tony sighs. “I know it hurts to not be a jerk, but can you try?”
“Fine,” Tony mumbles finally, throwing a nail at a door, then stands up. “Just do not give me this speech on behaving properly.”
“Don’t get your hopes up, brother mine. We are in this together, and you will get the full number of speeches I have prepared.”
“Plural? Y/N, you want my death,” Tony laughs. “Come on, let’s get to sleep before his majesty the Capscile came to rip our heads off.”
“You again?” he nods, and you shake your head, realizing that getting Steve and Tony to communicate like normal people will take much more than a simple speech. Maybe a punch. Or a poison. You don’t know yet.
September 9--Spiritual Vitamins--Day 9
SPIRITUAL VITAMIN E: EXHORT “Exhort one another daily, while it is called ‘Today’ lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” Hebrews 3:13 (NKJV)
Today’s Thought: “Exhort” means: Urge, advise, or caution earnestly; Give urgent advice, recommendations, or warnings.
The New Living Bible translates the verse this way:“You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.”
Today’s Action: Everyday we need to be alert and do our best to keep ourselves spiritually healthy. The enemy is always trying to lure us to sin by being deceitful, so let us be concerned, not only for ourselves, but for all, and especially for our fellow believers in Christ.
Let us help each other in our daily walk. If we see one of our brethren straying off the path or being pulled into temptation let’s give them a loving, helpful hand to lead them back.
Pray, Intercede, Contend, for all–believers and unbelievers. Give thanks and Praise God Always as this will keep you strong spiritually. Exhort daily: yourself, the brethren, and all men everywhere.
EXHORT FOR ALL I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men; 1 Timothy 2:1 (NKJV)
EXHORT FOR THE BRETHREN Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort [you] by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, [so] ye would abound more and more. 1 Timothy 4:1(NKJV)
EXHORT FOR YOURSELVES Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort [you] that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Jude 1:3 (NKJV)
