Adobe After Effects Tutorial : How to Create the Textless Effect

Remember the amazing “Textless” short by Gareth Smith & Jenny Lee? Well, here’s our own tutorial that recreates the workflow to achieve this amazing effect where the content of a sign is falling drove by physics. We are going to use Adobe After Effects, Mocha AE to track the sign and Newton3 for the physic simulation. Adobe Illustrator to vectorize the artwork and Adobe Photoshop to clean up the sign using the content aware tool. That’s a lot of tools for an amazing result. But don’t worry, everything is going to be quite easy to do.

Content Aware Tool (Thursday, 13th of June 2019)

Step-by-step guide: “Move”

Import your image onto Adobe Photoshop, then copy the background to create a new layer. 

Select the Content Aware Move tool located under the Spot Healing Brush tool. 

Select the following; Mode = Move // Structure = 4 // Colour = 4 // Sample All Layers and Transform on Drop. 

Make a selection around one of the balloons then click and drag the selection to the desired space on the image.

Step-by-step guide: “Extend”

Select Extend instead of Move in the mode section located at the top of the bar. 

Make another selection around one of the balloons then click and drag the selection to the desired space on the image. This selection duplicates the subject. 

I followed a YouTube tutorial as a guide to using the content aware tool, which I found incredibly simple and helpful.

Content Aware Move Tool Kullanımı

Content aware move tool yani içeriğe duyarlı taşıma aracını Healing grubu altında bulabilirsiniz. Patch Tool ile benzer bir iş yapar. Seçili alanı genişletmek veya ilk seçili alanı doldurmak ya da diğer seçili alanı önceki seçime taşımak için kullanılabilir. Karışık bir cümle olduğunun farkındayım pek takılmayalım devam eden kısımda ve resimler de açıklığa kavuşacaktır. Daha kısa şekilde akıllı seçimler yapmaya yarayan alet diyebiliriz.

Nasıl akıllı derseniz, aşağıdaki örnekde daha iyi anlayacaksınız. Resimde farklı renk yapısında bulunan nesneleri daha iyi seçmeye yarıyor, bun yaparken de bizi fazla yormuyor. 

Ne için kullanılabilir?

En kestirme hali ile resimde bulunan istenmeyen nesnelerin çıkarılması diyebiliriz.

Şimdi hareket ettirme özelliğine yakından bakalım. Altta bulunan resimdeki seçim ile bu özelliğini inceleyelim.

1 ) Yukarıdaki resimde pek görünmüyor ama yaprağın etrafında kabaca bir seçim yaptım. Bu seçim Content Aware move tool yardımıyla yapıldı. Bu işlem yapılırken “Sample All Layers” seçeneğinin seçili olmasına dikkat edin. 

  2 ) Seçimi taşımadan önce yeni bir layer yani katman oluşturuyoruz. Seçimi yaptıktan sonra seçim içinde bir yerlerden tutarak yaprağı başka bir yere taşıdım.

3 ) Farenin sol tuşu ile taşıma yapıp bıraktıktan sonra içeriğe duyarlı olarak yeni bir kopya olarak sağ tarafa taşıdığımız yaprak sol da ise orijinali duruyor. 

  4 ) Patch toolda olduğu gibi content aware move tool da uyum sağlamak için çeşitli seçenekler sunuyor. Üstte ki resimde olduğu gibi Adaptation menüsünde bu seçenekleri görebilirsiniz. Etkisinide bir üstte yer alan resimde görüyorsunuz. 3. adım da Very Strict seçeneği ile yaptım.  Bu yöntemi resmin içeriğine göre ve farklı resimler de uygulayrak tam olarak neler yaptığını görebilirsiniz. Üstte yer alan resimleri dikkatli incelerseniz ne hangi mod ne iş yapıyor farkedebilirsiniz.

  Content aware move tool ve Extend mode

Extend modunda (genişletme modu) içeriğe duyarlı taşıma aracı kullanıldığında, seçilen alanları taşımak ve seçilen alanı doldurmak yerine orijinal görüntü ile harmanlamak için kullanabilirsiniz. Mesela bir binayı olduğundan daha uzun ya da herhangi birinin boynunu uzatma için kullanabilirsiniz. Bu alet yani content aware move tool ile yeni bir şeyler oluşturmak istediğiniz de seçimi çevreleyen alanları da dikkate alarak doldurma yapılır. Bu aleti kullanırken dikkat etmeniz gereken en önemli nokta, taşıma yaptığınız bölgenin taşınan nesneyi tamamen kaplayacak kadar geniş olması istediğiniz sonucu almanızı sağlayacaktır. Eğer taşınan bölge bu kriteri karşılamıyorsa, taşıdığımız bölgeyi küçültebiliriz.

  Aşağıdaki örnekte content aware move tool ile bulutu çoğaltacağız, burada extend mode kullanılacak ve adaptation seçeneğimiz very loose da duruyor. Zaten gerekli ayarları aşağıda ki resimlerde  görebilirisiniz.

  1 )  Üstte ki resim çalışma yapacağımız el değmemiş resmimiz. Aşağıda ki ise extend mode seçeneği ile kullandığımız content-aware move tool ile yapılmış resim.

2 ) Aşağıda da content aware move tool ile bulutlarımızın biraz arttırılmış halini görebilirsiniz. Seçimi yaptık ve biraz sol tarafa farenin sol tuşu basılı tutularak taşıdık ve bıraktık.

3 ) Seçimi bıraktığımız anda altında kalan bulutlar ve gökyüzü ile harmanlayarak yeni bir katmanda yeni bir bulut oluşturduk. Bu işlem sırasında yukarıda ki resimde de görebileceğiniz gibi extend mode ve “Very Loose” ayarlarını kullandık. Diğer ayarları da kullanarak nasıl sonuçlar verdiğini görmenizi ve bu mode değişikliklerinin ne tür sonuçlar ortaya çıkardığını görmeniz, karşılaşacağınız problemlerin çözümü için fayda sağlayacaktır. 

Konu ilginizi çekmişse resminizde bulunan renk farklarını biraz daha yok etmeye yönelik olarak; dodge tool  ve burn tool isimli makalelerimize de göz gezdirebilirsiniz.
