i have 2 main goals for the year, one of which is to be a more social and engaged person, so i’ve instated a rule of yes, where if i am asked to take part in a social event i will simply say yes and go. the other is to seriously work on my writing project! i want to get a little done every day. there’s def some other stuff i want to do, but these are my main focuses.
my new year’s was super fun and unconventional and i wouldnt have gone without my yes rule, because it was literally with 3 people my age and a bunch of my old high school teachers, but i’m so happy i did! i also want to beat myself up less about being honest and feeling things because i do that a lot and i hide a lot of my feelings, and there’s really no reason for that at all.
a new ocean/summer-themed converse collection releasing today of all days? of course i had to have some! (after a morning of gratitude and panera with the madre! 🎂💝)
Like. Seriously. This is sort of a corollary of a lot of thought I had about the post last night. It's not exactly a rant, but more of a stream of consciousness thing. Still putting it under a cut because it could get long winded, but...
This community is tiny.
There's no way around it. And it's becoming more and more clear week to week that it feels like it's getting smaller and smaller. How quickly posts and rants get circulated. How often that passive aggression and arguments get tossed about, and the fact that when we want to rp, even in public, we always see the same people?
It's... The game itself is tiny. It's a common joke to say Wildstar is dying, but, it... It is shrinking. And that magnifies every problem and post someone makes. It makes it so many can't exactly -escape- some parts of the community without losing a good chunk of rp. An example being the... Loss of some rp focused guilds at least Exile side. I can count two still surviving, one being SCAR, and the other being... EXOdus, I think it is? (I apologize, I don't keep up quickly, and may have missed the posts.)
How an event being 'Big,' typically would entail about 90% of the rp community being involved?
I can even say the vast majority of the community is still here on Tumblr, but, this also highlights another problem, in that every person we lose? It's... Bigger. It's not a drop in a bucket, it's an actual person that we're connected to in SOME way, that is leaving. Someone we rped with at some point, someone we've enjoyed the writing of.
Ratio wise? Conversations about issues people have need to be had because it's so small. Small enough that every argument seems to plant a divide in the community in some way. Small enough that some things just cannot be ignored, and cannot be simply changed without being discussed, and given a plan of action. The thing is?
It's also small enough that we can have a conversation like that.
We can all talk about this, and get a decision done, if we'd just fucking talk. Not argue, not bicker, not post passive aggressive things about things we disagree with, but actually discuss.
Finally, just as every loss is made bigger, so is every resub, and so is every new person. We can make this an optimistic place, but we need to work for it, and talk. Converse. Recognize, and have the courage to speak publically. Please. I love this game, and I've met some great rpers here. We can rebuild, bring people back, and become truly welcoming, or so I think. We just need to put the work in.
