If you wanna become alterhuman, you can just become one. You can choose to become otherlinker, otherhearted or a system. Chosen identities and created systems are as valid as involuntary ones.

"I want to 'link, but I'm not sure what to choose as a linktype"
[PT: "I want to 'link, but I'm not sure what to choose as a linktype" /PT end]
You want to 'link, but you're not sure what to choose? Here's some questions and suggestions, that maybe will help you.
Do you have an animal/a character/an object/a concept/etc. that you feel connected with in some way? If you feel a connection to something, maybe try 'linking this.
What's your reason for 'linking? E.g. if you wanna become more brave, try 'linking something that you associate with being brave (e.g. a lion), or a character that is brave in their source. Or maybe if you wanna 'link in order to cope with something, you can look for characters that went through similar experiences as you and found a way to cope, and you could 'link them.
If you have any other alterhuman identity already, maybe you could 'link something related to that. E.g. If you're an otherflicker and miss some of your 'flickers or want to make them permanent, you could 'link them! If you have a hearthome, you could 'link something related to it (e.g. if any species/characters live in the place that's your hearthome, you could 'link them).
Did you want to be a specific animal/character/object/concept/etc. when you were younger? Maybe you could 'link that, if you still feel some connection to that!
Or maybe there were characters or animals that you used to roleplay as? You could 'link them, too!
Interact with some media, and maybe you'll find some ideas for linktypes.
You can also read some encyclopedias. Maybe they will give you some ideas for a linktype. And even if after reading you wouldn't get any ideas, you still would have learnt something new!
Look around. Maybe at your home, or somewhere in your area, there's something that you could 'link!
You can read about experiences of other otherlinkers to learn about what made them choose their linktypes.
These are only a few ideas. I hope these will help somebody! If you have your own ideas or suggestions, feel free to share them in the reblogs! And if you already chose a linktype/linktypes, feel free to share what made you choose them.
Also, for everyone interested in 'linking, don't feel afraid to experiment with your identity. Don't feel afraid to drop and change linktypes. There's nothing wrong with dropping and changing linktypes. If you feel like you don't need a linktype anymore, or the linktype is bringing you harm, drop it or change it. If there's anything that you think would be a better linktype for you than your current linktype, feel free to change it!
30 Days of Pokefolk Challenge
We've seen a lot of 30 day alterhuman challenges around, which is awesome! I wanted to make my own, specifically to cater to alterhumans with connections to Pokemon! Feel free to change questions a little to suit your identity better, or other such stuff. The point of this isn't to strictly adhere to the challenge, it's moreso to get more works by pokemon fictionfolk out there!
Text below cut. Pokemon 'kin symbol here (used in absence of a Pokemon alterhuman symbol).
Want to know what I've been working on and why I keep asking for resources?
Check out this enormous list (Google Docs) of alterhuman resources including blogs to follow, awesome informative websites, creative works, firsthand experiences, and plenty of other things. I have general alterhuman resources as well as some sections for otherkin, therians, copinglinkers, otherhearted folks, and systems.
It's not done and I would love even more links, especially in areas that are lacking. I'm hoping to expand on the copinglinker section and expand on the questioning/guides sections and missing websites. I just wanted to show off the document so far. It's a great go-to if I want to share specific resources and don't want to search my blog or other people's blogs in order to find them.
I hope it's helpful. I've been working on it for a week so far.
If you want, you can request to be a commenter on the document so you can leave notes on how I can expand or fix things as needed! Just let me know!
Have you ever had a situation when you tried 'linking something, but ended up with creating a sysmate instead?
Yes, I had such a situation once
Yes, I had such a situation more than once
No, I've never had such a situation
I'm not sure, if I have ever had such a situation
I had a reverse situation: I created a 'link while trying to create a sysmate
would it be ableist to 'link to a character that have a disorder that you don't have?
tl;dr, you can do whatever you want forever.
More serious answer: I’m sure there are ways to be ableist about it, but no, I don’t think it’s inherently ableist in any way. If you go on to use that as an excuse to talk over disabled people about their experiences, claim you have firsthand knowledge of how that disability affects people in this place and time, etc, then sure, that’s ableist, but it’s the behavior that’s the problem, not the identity.
(Others feel free to add thoughts in the notes, especially if you disagree with me on this; I’m curious about others’ thoughts.)
