"With slowly growing horror she stared at the letter, at the one black sentence that peered upat her from the smudged paper." - Lois Duncan, I Know What You Did Last Summer 🚲 This books is... not great. I wanted to like it so badly, but I don't. The story felt slow and boring, and came to a close out of nowhere and much too quick. Of course I read it because of the movie by the same name, starring my girl, SMG. · · #corascorner #bookstagram #bookish #bibliophile #bookworm #booknerd #horror #iknowwhatyoudidlastsummer #loisduncan #readmore #readmorebooks #bookchallenge #bookpost #readingchallenge https://www.instagram.com/p/CBocMOegmoq/?igshid=1luvyqd9i6u9d
"I can't breathe." - Angie Thomas, The Hate U Give ✊🏽 Angie Thomas crafted a masterpiece with this book. The Hate U Give is a honest, heartbreaking account of what is taking place across America. It is a crucial account of racism and police brutality. I've been working on better educating myself these last few weeks about the injustices African Americans face. It's my duty & privilege to educate myself as I have never had to live through it. This book, which has been sitting in my TBR for years, was only a small step toward that education. I HIGHLY recommend that everyone read this - it is necessary. It may be a fictionalized story, but it is all too real for people of color in America, and it is past time the world changes for them. Equality is a right, not a privilege. · · @angiethomas #corascorner #bookstagram #bookish #bibliophile #bookworm #booknerd #thehateugive #angiethomas #blacklivesmatter #nojusticenopeace #endracism #icantbreathe #blackauthors #yabooks #readmore #readmorebooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CBKQGv6gk3Q/?igshid=1qioyu5smn4lq
“There just has to be a girl. One girl, in all the world, who wants to change it so that her friend doesn’t have to fight alone anymore.” - Willow Rosenberg (A.M. Robinson), The Official Grimoire, A Magickal History of Sunnydale 🕯 If there’s one thing my friends know about me, it’s that I am obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer & have been most of my life. My mom introduced me to the show in 1998, and we watched seasons 2-7 together as they aired on television. I adore this collection of Willow’s thoughts and spells throughout the years. It is such a fun way to relive the good, the bad, and the very, very evil of Sunnydale! Plus it has adorable footnotes from the rest of the Scooby gang scribbled throughout, which really make it extra wonderful. · · https://www.instagram.com/p/B_nlaMgAjcp/?igshid=1hqjn652kc2tn
“A kingdom is too small for you, Princess. You should be ruler of the entire sea.” - Adalyn Grace, All the Stars and Teeth 🌊 Surprise, surprise, this book made me cry! I have a special place in my heart for books that take place on the sea, and on pirate ships. I’ve always wished I could be on a ship, sailing across the ocean. What a feeling that must be! While I didn’t feel specifically connected to her throughout the story, Amora is a great main character. A princess of a magical kingdom, and heir to the throne, whose family’s magic is not what is seems. She’s fierce, determined, and takes no bullshit. She knows what she needs to do, and she stops at nothing to get it done, even when that means sailing across the kingdom to save her people. I loved the adventure of it all - it was fun & exciting. And what a crew - a pirate, a stowaway, a mermaid, and a princess! · · https://www.instagram.com/p/B_ls3fHAIa0/?igshid=1jfam73rllka1
“Some places are bound in by magic. Ensnared by it. The town of Sparrow may have possessed slivers of magic long before the Swan sisters arrived in 1822.” - Shea Ernshaw, The Wicked Deep ⚓ I grew up believing in magic. That it was in the forest, and in the sea, and in the sparks that lept from the fires my parents light nearly every night. This book reminded me of how I felt growing up. It’s a good read. I’d read Winterwood by the same author over the winter and loved it, so I knew I’d like this one too. Three sisters being accused of witchcraft, drowned in the harbor, and returning every summer for two centuries to get their revenge on the town… genius. I really liked the magical aspect of this book. How simple it was, yet it wasn’t really. I enjoyed the tangled web of it all. Sparrow is a place I would have felt comfortable growing up in. It could have been my family looking after the lighthouse. Is Sparrow, Oregon a real place? Because I’d love to visit. · https://www.instagram.com/p/B_YCzW4gFDm/?igshid=e0ycfds3pixt
“Alopecia aresta. The words sounded like some food Quinn had never tasted but already knew she would hate. Baba ghanoush. Ratatouille.” - Natasha Friend, How We Roll 💬 This book was awesome. I read it while I should have been sleeping. I couldn’t put it down. Life’s not easy for a teenager. Quinn has alopecia areata. Her brother, Julius, named after the drink Orange Julius, has autism. Nick is a double amputee. But they make it work. This book was a quick read. It was an easy read. But it still surprised me, and inspired me, and made me laugh. I’m really glad I read it. · https://www.instagram.com/p/B_UOZNLABVf/?igshid=1dpvzcx93bdyr
“Change we don’t choose is hard. Trauma puts things inside your soul you never asked for. Sure, sometimes it’s demonic. But sometimes it’s just growing up.” - Kiersten White, Chosen. 🗡 Who said sequels aren’t as good as the original? I loved this book. I loved it more than the first one. I really felt like I was in the Buffy universe while reading it. I mean, it definitely helped that there were plenty of Buffyverse characters - and most of my favorites to boost! I was so excited to come across them all, what a treat! I love the way the author has created this new world while so intricately weaving the old world I love so much into it. The Slayer dreams were so well done. And I’m really glad Nina’s attitude toward Buffy has changed for the better. The end of this book gave me major BTVS S5 feelings. It wasn’t the same, but also, it kind of was? Loved it. Buffy has been my life’s love & obsession for over 20 years and it makes me so happy to see it continued in this series. · https://www.instagram.com/p/B_TuqidAemC/?igshid=338rnacgezqw
