All the games I have on Steam that involve collecting poo, rated on how useful it is to do.
Been busy lately so haven't had the chance to write up a game review or research interesting and true things about Britain and British history. So here we come again, scraping the bottom of the barrel with a suggestion made on reddit about a year ago.
If there I games I have that I missed, but you know I have because I mentioned them in previous lists, then... OK, sure, whatever.
Abiotic Factor
As a base-building survival crafter, growing plants is an important part of the game. This means that not only is crapping yourself possible if you fail to get your scientist to the toilet on time, it's actually a good strategy. You can even speed up the process by drinking coffee and getting the 'negative' trait that makes you incontinent. You have to use a piece of plastic to pick the poo up in (can't use your bare hands, that's not very sanitary) but once you've gotten it you can make fertiliser, or explosives. Or brown paint. Or soup.
You can also use Bags of Vibrant Feces, acquired from alien creatures later in the game.
4/5 - it's very helpful but not strictly required.
Core Keeper
As a base-building survival crafter, growing plants is an important part of the game. This is unrelated to the collection of poo however, as you can only collect Blasting Dung from your Drohmbles for use in explosives. OK, while dung of various kinds has been used in the production of explosives, there really is more to the process than video game developers seem to think. But I guess this is specifically 'Blasting' dung. And who knows what is in the stuff Abiotic Factor scientists eat.
You can also get Kelp Dumplings from Kelples, which increase your chance to get extra fish and crops. So that's nice, if you wanna eat some turtle poo.
3/5 - explosives are awkward to use, but the double crops are nice when they happen.
Terraria
As a base-building survival- OK, growing plants is not as important in Terraria as in other games. It's mostly meat, or fruit from trees. But you can still get poo by sitting on a toilet with one of the Well Fed buffs active, which you get from eating food in the first place. You can still make fertiliser from this though, as well as stacking it like blocks, compressing it into boulders, or covering yourself in the stench to lower your luck. Despite what that sounds like, having bad luck is sometimes a positive.
2/5 - being able to instantly grow plants can be useful sometimes but honestly, unless you're going for industrial levels of farming then I don't think you need to.
Aground
Not every game on this list is a survival game, I swear. Most of them are, and Aground is no exception. You can get Fertilizer (they went polite with this one) from your ranched cattle and pigs, and put it on your crop fields to increase their growth time. That's pretty much it.
2/5 - Like Terraria, the fast growing crops are nice. But each Fertilizer has limited use, food can be stored indefinitely, and farmers can automatically collect your crops to store them. When you get into late-game and go out space adventuring, you're going to come back to a wealth of food no matter what.
Forever Skies
I swear to you, these are not all survival games. There's this and Subnautica, and that's it. The only feces to collect is from the giant mantises (mantees?) and is used to make Dust Fertilizer for a 3x plant growth multiplier. Which is alright, I reckon.
3/5 - it would be 4, like Abiotic Factor, but the game is not very long so by the time me and my airship crew found it we were nearly done with the main story. If you wanted to keep exploring the world then it would be better but we'd also kinda had enough of the game's regular glitches to keep going.
Subnautica
You can collect Alien Feces (previously called Sea Treader Poop) from Sea Treader Leviathans, but it's not used for fertiliser or explosives this time. You burn it for fuel, and honestly I didn't even know it existed until I looked it up for this list.
1/5 - I didn't even know it existed until now.
Rusty Lake
Actually multiple games this time; Cube Escape: The Mill, Rusty Lake Hotel, and Cube Escape: The Cave. The first use is bird poo, used as plant fertiliser (of course). The second is from a humanoid boar, where you must pick it up and put it into a sandwich to feed to the same humanoid boar. The third is dog poo, which you place under a microscope and extract pieces of the elixir of life that the dog previously drank in Rusty Lake: Roots. Three different uses, and all increasingly bizarre.
2/5 - use of poo is required by the game, but only in a few particular circumstances. There has yet to be a Rusty Lake game where throwing poo around solves multiple problems. Although if you feed the boar multiple shit sandwiches you can fish some tomatoes out of the toilet. I didn't include Rusty Lake Paradise, but you do have to search through your uncle's crap to find a black cube.
The Gateway Trilogy
Specifically Gateway 3. While inside the body of a giant robot man, you have to navigate the digestive system and collect multiple cubes; Fodder, Bolus, Chyme, Waste. Fodder is uneaten food. Bolus is chewed food. Chyme is partially digested food and Waste is food as digested as it's going to get. Poo, it means poo.
3/5 - it is used to create a duplicate of yourself for use in several puzzles. That's right, you get to control your own little poo golem. Incredible.
