#corriedale wool

Finished spinning the purple haze mini batt. It was a blend of Shetland tops, merino tops, Corridale rovings, border Leicester locks, and Angelina tinsel. I believe it was a little over 2 oz of fiber.

This was one of the first batts to come off the mini drum carder I won in a contest, and therefore not one of the most well prepped batts. The fiber wasn't as smooth to spin as some of the others I carded up afterwards. So this yarn is a bit inconsistent in spots. Still decent for hand spun yarn and it will even out with plying.

It came out to 198 yards, averaging 25 wpi, single ply yarn. I know I'm going to ply it with a purple colored silk thread but I haven't decided on what shade I will dye it. I'm leaning towards the darker, cooler/blue shades than the warmer redder shades. Maybe like a deep eggplant purple. Hrm. I guess it'll come to me when I break out the dye supplies.

Thinking this current batch of heavy salt and pepper Corriedale yarn would make some toasty bulky socks. Should order some more of the wool so I can make enough yarn for the project.

Still saving up onion peels to practice dye the white yarn. Dunno what I'll be doing with it yet.

#2 of my sample spins is this grey corriedale wool. I'm not sure where I got it from except that it came from one of my Etsy purchases.

It is much smoother than the dorset wool and no tweedy clumps. A much smoother staple and not as crispy as the Dorset. A nice silvery grey and very soft. Pretty close to merino soft, and i think it drafted much more easily. It had a very consistent draft, not as thick and thin like the dorset.

I andean plied this sample as well and it took just at an hour to go from fluff to plied. I ended up with roughly 650 inches or just barely 18 yards. It weighs about 13 grams all spun up.

It does have a bit of a fuzzy halo, but is quite soft. I wouldn't mind using this for next to skin.

My first raw fleece is becoming yarn! It's a three ply Corriedale cross that was super soft and clean. It is spun in the grease. Only flick carded and spun as locks, woolen style. It's so fluffy!
