We're so grateful Nene could stay with you two tonight so Mom and I could join Aaron & Anna and Jacob & Cory for a night away from our children -- no offense. We started at the Musuem of Fine Arts, then had dinner at Allsopp & Chapple.

We went to the Grummers' this afternoon to watch the Razorback baseball game -- they're in the College World Series -- then we stayed for dinner.

Dear Gus & Magnus,

As Gus and I started up the street to walk to school, we saw Cory, Rhett, and Martin, so Gus yelled out, "Rhett! It's me, Gus!" And caught up with them.

I love walking Gus to school every morning and seeing all the parents and kids heading to school. It's very heartwarming and reminiscent of what I think things must have been like decades ago, all across the country. Our neighborhood is doing a good job of hanging onto it.

After work today, Gus and I walked over to the Grummers' house to celebrate Martin's first birthday. Jacob grilled burgers and hot dogs. (Mom stayed home with Magnus because he's got a lot going on -- double pink eye and the cold is not going away.)

Dear Gus & Magnus,

When I got home from the office today, you guys and the Grummers were playing in our front yard. Martin is a vocal baby and he yells at a loud volume. Magnus is quiet, but he's starting to make more noises. Tonight, Martin was yelling at him and Magnus seemed so, so concerned. He kicked his arms and legs in a way that made me think he wanted to respond in his own way.

I've loved watching the big kids play together, but I'm really looking forward to Martin and Magnus playing together. There's a better-than-good chance they'll end up at the same schools from daycare through high school.

Dear Gus & Baby Boy #2,

Mom and I took Suki for a walk this morning, then picked you up from YP's. I went to the grocery store while you and Mom took a nap after lunch to rest up because the Grummers invited us for afternoon play time and dinner. When I came back from Kroger, you and Mom were already over there. Gus and Lane and Rhett played in the pool in the front yard, then we ate fried catfish and banana pudding on their back patio. Solid day.

Dear Gus & Baby #2,

Today was a big day. Gus spent the night with YP last night, but Mom and I went and got him this morning so we could go to Aria and Sophia's birthday party. As we drove up, he said, "I'm not going to be shy," which was equal parts precious/heartbreaking. But also, I'm proud of him for knowing what he's got to overcome.

He was shy, and mostly wanted to play by himself, but Sophia was a sweetheart and kept coming to check on him. And his favorite part of the party was probably when he got in the tree swing with kids he didn't know.

When we came home, the Easter bunny (our neighbor Nancy) had hidden a bunch of eggs in our yard. One of them even had Gus's name on it. About the time Gus found all of his eggs, the Grummers discovered the Easter bunny had come to their yard as well, so we walked down and watched them hunt.

We love being on this street.
