Biologic Hangover
This is a question I get in my support groups a lot!
Why do I feel so tired after taking my biologic?
A very fair question. We call it the "Humira Hangover" (even if you aren't using Humira, the alliteration is important)
It can be different for everyone, but typically, when starting out with a new biologic treatment (Humira, Enbrel, Cosentyx, etc.) you will feel a bit tired to freaking exhausted a day or two after.
Usually this will only last the first few months after starting. Maybe longer or shorter, but it seems to happen to everyone.
For me, I'm exhausted the day of injection, so I try to do my shot at night so it will help me sleep.
Again, it is not an exact science, but, yes, for those who are wondering.. it is a totally normal part of being a biologic user.
Auto-immune Disorders
I have psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and hydradenitis. I’ve been taking Cosentyx, but I’ve been sick more than I’ve been well: oral thrush like every 6 weeks and getting increasingly more painful and difficult to treat. I am *hopefully* switching to Tremfya.
I’m looking for people on biologics for auto-immune stuff.
Are you worried about Covid-19? Do you feel like there is enough research to not be more concerned than the ‘average’ person? Do you have comorbities?
I am having massive anxiety because my employer is calling us all back in but my job requires me to break CDC guidelines for things. I have a doctor’s appointment this week to fill out the form for HR to let me continue doing what I’ve been doing which has worked just fine for my department. My doctor wrote a note back in July saying I need to stay telecommuting for the duration of Covid-19, but now I’m stressed out that the person I see this week won’t fill out the form even though I am in the risk group for obesity, my immune system doesn’t work properly, the drugs put me in the ‘may weaken immune system’ group, I don’t sleep well (the doc should see that in my chart) which also lowers the immune system, I don’t eat well which is my own problem, growing up - if something was going around, I got it - and I have been sick since March with sinus infections, ear infections, colds, oral thrush, other mouth bacterial issues, my anxiety baseline is at a 7/10, and I am terrified.
My regular nurse practitioner left; I’ve seen this one once; this one is different from who wrote my first letter in July. A teledoc, former transplant doctor, said I am immune compromised. But I feel like some say I am, some say I’m not, and it’s not worth the risk when the data is so unclear.
I need validation. I need to know that I am not overreacting.
I am in constant discomfort if not pain. I can’t afford to get Covid and have life-long chronic problems. I have enough chronic illness.
can the cosentyx man stop asking me how sexy his elbows are
I have passed the 1 month marker of Cosentyx and I started my period today and it kind of just snuck up on me (I just had a sudden uterine cramp that told me it started). Usually end up having really bad aches in my hips and pelvic joints and that's been significantly reduced.
So far my ability to lay on my back on a harder surface such as the floor without getting stuck has improved and I can do yoga exercises I haven't been able to do in like four years that require rolling my lower back joints.
On week #3, the Tuesday after my injection (three days apart) I was able to rearrange furniture and sit up for a slightly longer period of time at my desk than usual... And today I sat outside in a folding chair for like 5 hours listening to music and coloring. Its such a change from my usual capability that I'm not sure what to do with myself.
I'm scared that insurance is going to expect me to work or take it away from me honestly.
