Also, instead of pie - they go to the beach
“I mean it. I think this is the first step in us starting to heal. Just look around at everyone.”
Doing as Jemma suggested, she couldn’t help smiling as she watched Mack and Elena splash each other while Fitz and Coulson cooled off in the water just far enough that they were out of danger. Then her eyes wandered over to where May and Piper were walking along the edge of the ocean, deep in conversation but not a serious one as Piper laughed at something May said.
“You’re right. We really needed this.”
Just lying in the sun on the beach felt like all the stress and pain were melting off of her shoulders.
“It’s definitely worth dragging sand back to the base and dealing with it for ages because you know, its gonna get in everything.”
Jemma sighed.
“Maybe we can get Fitz to upgrade the vacuum cleaners to easily suck up any and all sand.”
Adjusting her sunglasses, she went back to watching the team enjoy the water when Mack caught her attention by waving his arm.
“Come on, Jem. I think the others want us to join them in the water.”
Hi, you requested Fluffy prompts, here's one: Philinda - "I'm pregnant, Phil. Not an invalid."
Phil rubbedthe back of his neck while smiling sheepishly at his wife.
So maybe, hehad gone a bit overboard with trying to help her out since they learned she waspregnant.
“I knowthat, sweetheart. I just never thought that I would get the chance to be afather.”
As annoyedas she was with Phil, Melinda couldn’t help smiling at him.
This factwas one of the little known facts about him and she was sure the only otherteam member who had any idea was Skye.
The youngerwoman certainly filled in for his nonexistent child but Melinda was more thanhappy to make his dream come true now.
“We’re ateam, Phil and this doesn’t change that. So that means I can handle things unlessI ask for help.”
“I just gotcaught up in the excitement and worry of bringing a new life into this worldbut I’ll work on that. However, as your husband and the baby’s father, it is myright to spoil you and him or her.”
Phil grinnedbecause even if that wasn’t a thing, he was going to do it anyways.
Shaking herhead, Melinda could tell exactly what was going on through his head in thatmoment.
“If you wantto help, you can get Hunter and Bobbi to stop having sex in the SUVs.”
“They’restill doing that?”
Melinda juststared at him.
Seeing thelook on her face, Phil raised his hands in a nonthreatening gesture.
“What? I’vebeen busy.”
“Busyintervening in Skye’s love life. I’ve told you that Trip is good for her and heknows better than to mess with her.”
Phil openedhis mouth to argue but closed it when she crossed her arms and tapped her foot.
“Alright,alright….I’ll stop.”
Melindarelaxed her stance.
“I know thatyou care about her but now you have our child to care about too.”
Phil movedclose and kissed her.
“I still can’tbelieve this is really happening, after all of this time.”
He wrappedone arm around her waist as his other hand came to rest on her growing bump.
Melindaleaned into him as her own hand rested on top of his.
Philinda! And the prompt: 'Stranded in a snowstorm, Phil's luggage got lost and Melinda is the only one with extra clothes."
Christmas has never been her favorite season. Not because she doesn’t enjoy the holiday, because getting tipsy off of spiked eggnog and exchanging gifts with her mother was always more than enough to satisfy her. It was one of the few times a year she sought out her mother and they enjoyed each other’s company with without any arguing.
That wasn’t the case this year though. HYDRA doesn’t take off for the holidays so neither can SHIELD. Or at least that’s what Coulson had said right before assuring her that the missions would be quick and they would get back home in time for Christmas.
She wanted to believe him, had even considered it once they had managed to get inside the abandoned warehouse with ease. Of course, that comfort was short lived, neither of them having anticipated the ambush which was mostly her mistake, really, except that Coulson had stressed the abandoned part so many times she got so fed up with it she actually started to believe it and made the rookie mistake of letting her guard down for a moment.
The snow is blowing violently outside, and despite the standard issue heavy duty coat, the cold is starting to seep into her bones in an alarming pace.
Coulson had lost his backpack somewhere between entering the building and escaping, making May the only one who still had any equipment. Their earpieces weren’t in range out in the storm, and she made a mental note to have a serious talk with Skye and Fitz about that.
Thankfully, there was a disposable phone tucked away inside one of the pockets of the backpack and she called Trip who said it would take them a few hours to get to their location. She was sure Trip could practically feel her rolls her eyes.
They find another abandoned building about two miles out, and by the time they get inside, their boots are soaked all the way through and her coat is actually dripping snow onto the floor of the abandoned barn.
She can make out a farm house in the distance, but considering the team will be here in a few hours, she doesn’t see any point in seeking out their help, not when she isn’t sure if they can be trusted or not.
“This is nice.”
All May can do is flash him an icy glare over her shoulder that rivals the blizzard outside. Coulson isn’t fazed though, he never is, he just continues smiling at her until she drops her gaze and begins to survey their surroundings.
“Trip said the Bus will be here in a few hours.”
There’s nothing inside the barn that’s even remotely useful. Well, there is the potential to start a fire, but considering the farm house is in such close proximity, that could result in them getting spotted.
“You wouldn’t happen to have a blanket in your backpack, would you?”
The questions takes her by surprise, and when she spins around to look at Coulson, he’s visibly shivering and attempting to bring some warmth back into his arms.
Her expression softens marginally and she moved towards the backpack and pulls out a spare coat she always packs for missions in harsh environments. This one is lighter though, and not to mention far too small for Coulson, but when she drapes it over his shoulders, he doesn’t seem to mind to minor details.
She sits down next to him on the pile of dried hay Coulson had occupied, and if she shifts closer to him, well, she’ll blame it on the winter chill.
When he smiles at her though, still with the same hope and happiness from before, she can’t help but return it.
