Happy pride to the yugioh protagonists and their tragic yaoi (and whatever soulshipping has going on)
happy egaoshipping day (international lesbian day)
thougha slo to be fair to arc-v. imo counterpartshipping is underrated/has rela fun potential. i think part of what i like about it is unlike the other protag/spirit buddy ships yuto really is just a guy (or at lesat. is as much as yuya is). he also doesn't know much about waht's going on. the main thing he does have is a contrasting viewpoint from yuya, which imo is really interesting.
yuto does want to be like yuya and still be able to be hopeful and pacifistic, but he...can't. he had to survive his home blowing up and being relentlessly pursued by academia, and he had to grow hard and cold to do it. and the thing is, you can't entirely argue he was in the wrong to do so. yuya gets put through the fucking wringer over the course of the show, oftentimes for not really good reason. the world can be cruel! but...wouldn't it be nice if it weren't? if you could smile again, like you used to?
like the other way i'd put it is. z-arc in yuya can feel like a defense mechanism. kind of lik teh avatar state. from how often it shows up when yuya's in real physical/emotional distress. i kind of think his and yuto's dynamic also works there. yuto can't Egao as well as yuya can, but what he can do is defend himself/sniff out danger ahead of time.
...also again. the show was not good at this point. yuto's presence really is one of the best parts of xyz/fusion arc. where the hell were you in synchro. do you just not like bikes.
Phantom Pages, Chapter 16: A Good Morning
Yuya woke up the next morning to find Yuto watching the sunrise once more. A soft smile was on the ghostly eggplant’s face. Yuya reached up and gently cupped Yuto’s cheek in his hand. “Good morning, Yuto!”
“Good morning Yuya!” Yuto said, smiling down at his soulmate. “Did you sleep well?”
“Very!” Yuya replied. Yuto stroked his soft tomato fluff. “Good! You really needed it after not sleeping the night before!”
“Yeah, I’ve had time to process all of this, and I’m good now!” Yuya said with a smile. “Hey, do you wanna possess me and have some breakfast? Mom makes the best pancakes!”
“Are you sure you don’t mind?” Yuto asked. Yuya nodded, “I’m sure! Just make sure to leave some pancakes for me!”
A birthday present for one of my dear friends! This is a companion piece to the fic I wrote her last year

Today on another attempt at a 15 minute sketch on a post it note. I feel like I could have chosen any ship but Yuto in particular spoke to me in the back. Since they have a similar height I went counterpartshipping.
I love you Yuto (but there is no way in heck I am coloring you with the darkscale black color tone)! I used @ygo-colors "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" limited palette which someone had anonymously requested.
