Ok, we've looked at how Tolkien originally wrote Eowyn and Aragorn as love interests, before he decided that Aragorn was too "old and lordly and grim" for her, and then he partnered her up with Faramir, the character he considered most like himself. We've looked at how it seems a lot like that the only man Tolkien thought was good enough for Eowyn was his self-insert.
But let's look at how Tolkien wrote Eowyn as depressed and desperate for death. Let's look at how Tolkien subjected Eowyn to years of frustration and drudgery and torment, driving her to the point of despair, before finally giving her a happily ever after.
There's definitely a bit of "I'm Faramir is the only man good enough for her", but there's also a some element of "I broke this poor girl and now it's up to me Faramir to fix her."
