Your embroidery pieces, where do you get the templates/patterns for them? Do you make them yourself?

So for my cross stitch:

I buy a lot of patterns on Etsy, or in the case of the above piece I used the free program Floss Cross to make it.

For my anime embroidery:

What I do is print off the panel and use a lightbox to trace the picture onto fabric:

So not hand drawn, traced with heat erase/friction pens.

We are doing pretty great, and I hope you are too!

Crafting asks! 🌈 Do you have certain colours you gravitate towards when creating? and 🍓 Do you have a dream project? What would you craft if you had infinite time and money?

🌈Do I have certain colors I gravitate towards when crafting? usually greens, yellows, black, greys, and white - yellow more than green these days - but 98% of what I make is for others and so it's whatever fits them best or what i have on hand that fits their sort of aesthetic.

i definitely need more yellow.

🍓 Do you have a dream project? What would you craft if you had infinite time and money? First is a king size matching set of hexipuff and hexiflat beekeeper's quilts made with yarn that is locally harvested wools spun, dyed, and sold from local yarn shops.

A close second would be to get gud enough at crocheting to make a stained glass window blanket for myself or something like one of those really intricate Persian Motif blankets like this.

the third you've actually given me the kit for, i just need to get the time - the Hue Shift Afghan from Knit Picks! I love love love it, the yarn is so soft!

A fourth would be to ship out boxes and boxes of the miscellaneous yarn I have. There's so much... I should organize it all and make up a flyer and see if the office won't let me hang it in there "free yarn - bring a bag and fill it at x apartment. please note it's around pets so it's not wholly allergy free, yarn content not wholly able to be guaranteed acrylic, wool, cotton, etc." I'm just looking at the mountains of scrapyarn I have and weeping because i can't rightly just throw it out (even if some of it smells like catt butt cause it was in adjacent boxes to the ones murphy slept in before he passed after two years of a failing thyroid and it's hard to was yarn before it's worked up) and there's so much that I can't so easily just. ship boxes of it to friends.

I’m converting & I haven’t yet felt comfortable wearing a kippah at shul. I know that I don’t need to be Jewish to wear one but I don’t own one & wearing the ones provided feels weird. SO! I’ve decided to make my own kippah (either knitted or crocheted) but I don’t know where to start. I have minimal knitting experience but that’s it. Is there anyone on Jumblr who might have a pattern or advice for making this on your own? I’d like to make a larger one that covers more of my crown if possible.

I crochet, and my Jewish friend wants me to make her a kippah. I have a pattern and everything, but I just wanted to double-check and be sure that it's okay to use yarn that contains wool, or would that not be kosher? I can use cotton or acrylic if sheep are a problem, I just need to know. Thank you and shabbat shalom.

Can you knit or crochet a tallit? I know there are patterns for this online, but I guess... does a tallit have to be made of specific fabric?

6. anything you made that you loved?

Several projects, honestly. I made a double wedding ring afghan in a queen size, which was fun and turned out lovely, but involved a lot of sewing together and weaving in ends, so I was pretty proud of myself for actually finishing it. It was a gift, though, and I only have one photo to remember it by.

I also made a crocodile stitch scarf out of my favorite yarn, and that's been a favorite forever.

And then in the last few months I've made a cardigan that I love, and a super cozy rainbow sweater. The rainbow sweater is probably my favorite thing I've ever made, and it was freehand, so I'm extra proud of it. (terrible quality) Picture below!

9. what are you working on right now?

Right now, I'm working on another pullover sweater using a 2-ply light blue metallic yarn. It's a super fine yarn—even feels thin for a 2-ply, so my wrists aren't loving it, but it should be pretty if I ever finish it.

I also have a kind of lazy blanket project in the works that's mostly my crafting circle social project. It's a simple stitch that doesn't really require counting, and I'm just making it for me, so I'm not too worried about small mistakes. It's slow going on that one, too, but mostly just because it's a side project.

3. when did you begin crafting?

So, my primary craft is crochet, but I've been crafting longer than I can remember. My mom loved all kinds of crafts, and we would make Christmas ornaments and handmade gifts and home decor all the time.

For crochet, though, I believe my mom taught me when I was around 8 years old when I was home sick with the flu. It became the thing I did to keep me busy anytime I was home sick from school after that.

4. what inspired you to craft?

In the very beginning, I think it started as boredom and curiosity. Now it's a stress reliever. Also, if I can make something for cheaper than buying (which, granted, crochet is expensive, but I consider it cheaper if I already have the yarn laying around), I'm going to just make it.

12. how long did your longest project take?

Honestly, I have a tendency to forget and never finish projects that are taking too long, but the longest that I have finished (that I remember the timing of) is the sweater I made most recently. It ended up taking me something like 4 months to finish because I kept frogging and re-envisioning it because I didn't have enough of the original yarn. It went through a full 5 iterations before I landed on what I had. And the frustrating thing is, it would have been done in one weekend if only I had had enough yarn. 😭

With that said, it is absolutely my favorite thing I have ever made, so it was worth it in the end.

I also have a blanket in progress that I've been working on here for there for about 6 months, but it's more my social project because it doesn't need much direct attention, so I'm not really counting that one.

Answered here! I'm also super proud of the dress I'm currently making, but it's not in a good state for pictures.

🐸 What do you wish people who don't craft understood better?

Had a hard time with this one, TBH, but — if you want something, say so. Also, I cannot reverse-engineer a pattern from a single picture. Not even my sister can do that, and she's a genius.
