The Invisible Man book is in a similar situation to the movie Crash where whenever it's mentioned there's a chance people may assume you're referring to the one about racism and not the more literally titled one
Cinema side of Tumblr, is there a name for the type of movie where things just sort of happen in the story? What I mean is that there’s no real story, it’s just a series of events that may or may not be related to each other, and then it ends.
Examples of what I’m talking about: Inside Llewyn Davis, Napoleon Dynamite, The Devil All the Time, Crash, Do the Right Thing
Well, my professor is certainly a character. To put it nicely. Yes, this is the same guy with the past-civil-disobedience/present-civil-disobedience cognitive dissonance.
You familiar with this movie "Crash"? Won an Oscar in 2006, and the Oscars were widely mocked because the film had some pretty questionable perspectives on race relations and the themes were handled with the subtlety of a foghorn? I'd never watched it beginning to end, but as someone who watches a lot of bad movie reviews on YouTube, I had seen the majority just through cultural osmosis. And my impression was that it was pretty goddamn terrible and frankly was complete waste of Thandie Newton.
So guess which movie we spent the entirety of class watching and will finish on Wednesday? Guess which movie we are supposed to use as a reference, for an upcoming paper on the importance of diversity? So yeah; I live in Chico California; if one of you reading this could come find me and put a bullet in my head before next week, that would be great. 🙏
Look, I'm not saying racial tensions aren't a relevant topic of discussion for a criminology course. I'm SLIGHTLY more bothered that the semester is almost over and the prof has only had a lecture prepared for like two classes so far and the rest was just meandering discussion on current events, at one point escalating to a point of animosity between the students. But if we're going to do this, can't we at least watch a fucking Joran Peele movie or something? Spike Lee if we're feeling spicy? Something good?! SOMETHING NOT WRITTEN BY TWO WHITE GUYS?!
Fuck it. Time for weed and Hannibal.
Okay was anyone going to tell me that Crash (2004), considered to be one of the worst films to ever win best picture, was NOT the same as Crash (1996) by David Cronenberg? Or was I just supposed to piece that together from myself?
