The gorgeous, pendant, fruit-like flowers of Crinodendron hookerianum (Chile Lantern Tree) today’s #oneadayplant . In my experience, it does better in sheltered spots in Scotland than it does in most of England, but in an acid soil in the South of England, there are some truly magnificent plants. . The other species of Crinodendron that we grow in the UK is C. patagua, which is white flowered. I have just bought a white form of C. hookerianum called ‘Alf Robbins’, which I haven’t grown before. Looking forward to seeing how it does. . Evergreen, pretty tough and durable, this can, in time, become a really large and weighty shrub. I can’t recall seeing it trained as a tree, but I can get big enough to be. To my mind, better to have the flowers close enough to see them with ease. . Gorgeous, exotic looking and a solid shrub for the garden. . #crinodendron #crinodendronhookerianum #crinodendronpatagua #chile #red #flowers #becarefulitispoisonous #evergreen #shrub #tree #iplantsman #gardening #gardeningmyway #thisgardeninglife #mygarden #myplants #gardeningadvice #gardeningtips #trysomethingnew (at Crowborough, East Sussex) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAufGZwg9kD/?igshid=h7874x0equoe
