A graceful tree from South West China and the adjoining Himalayas Juniperus recurva var. coxii (Himalayan juniper, drooping juniper, incense juniper) has weeping branches. Large trees are rare in the wild as they are valued for making coffins and furniture.

A slow-growing, evergreen erect tree this specimen of Cordyline indivisa (mountain cabbage tree, mountain palm) has reached an impressive height in this sheltered walled garden in Orkney. In summer there are small, white, star-shaped flowers followed by dense clusters of tiny purple-blue fruits.

The female holly cultivar Ilex aquifolium 'Argentea Marginata' (silver-margined holly) produces a beautiful evergreen tree which has variegated leaves and bright red berries. This tree will grow in moist, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. These two specimens create a welcoming arch over this path in a winter garden.

The small, spreading, evergreen tree Eucalyptus pauciflora subsp. niphophila (snow gum) has wonderful flaking bark providing year round interest. This tree will tolerate poorly drained sites, but not waterlogged, and a range of soils preferring slightly acidic.

A small, spreading, evergreen tree Arbutus unedo (strawberry tree, Dalmatian strawberry, Killarney strawberry tree) thrives in a sunny, sheltered location. The urn-shaped, white flowers often appear as the strawberry-like fruits, from the previous years flowers, ripen. The multiple trunks have flaking red-brown bark.

The evergreen tree Acacia dealbata (blue wattle, mimosa, silver wattle) was filling the air with fragrance. The flowers are small, fluffy, yellow spheres borne in terminal clusters that can start flowering in late winter and early spring. This tree was growing in a sunny, sheltered location.
