Initially, when you think of what a ‘Family Man,’ is all about, you might say he provide for his family and/or he takes good care of his children no matter what but that is only one side of the story. Thanks to Dayne Jordan he brings truth in his latest music video by spotlighting the tougher sides of what being a ‘Family Man‘ is all about. He paints a detailed picture from the lens of the man himself, as to what a true family man encounters daily including being and remaining 100% faithful to his spouse by not giving into temptation, never giving up when times get hard in pursuing your dream, taking pride in being a father and not letting frustration dictate your life, and more. I have to say this is one of his most impactful pieces of work off of his latest project The Memoirs of Dayne Jordan, which features several bangers but also hidden gems like Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood and Wake Up, and Don’t Forget.
As always the man behind the camera is Cristopher Schafer and he made sure to make Dayne’s words come to life with the visual treatment for this music video. He even manages to slide in one of the most impactful parenting scenes from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air featuring a young Will Smith. “I’m going to get through college without him, I’m going to marry me a beautiful honey, and I’m gon’ have me a whole bunch of kids. I’m going to be a better father than he ever was…and I sure as hell won’t need him for that, because there’s not a damn thing he could ever teach me about how to love my kids…how come he don’t want me man?” —Will Smith (The Fresh Prince of Bel Air). This message reigns true to me as I’ve grown up without my biological father who chose a life riddled with drug addiction and selfishness over raising his children. It is amazing to me how true this message still stands true today as my father was not there for my high school graduation, first day of college, nor when I got married last June. So often people with the luxury of having a true father take it for granted and although I never really had one I’m positive that I will be an awesome father to my future children.
As with most introspective rap artists like Dayne Jordan, he manages to share the twist as to how things can go if things go sour with his follow up of his song Single (feat. V) by inserting several sitcoms in his introductory bars to display the craftsmanship of his lyrical ability while storytelling. He goes on by stating, “They conditioned us through the sitcoms, that you should be the one to sit down with us whenever we was trippin uh, Good Times was still made but Family Matters wasn’t a factor til those with fathers that faded, a Full House wasn’t foreign but they were filled with more woman than uncle Jesse’s to raise Mary and Kate, then Boy Meets World without being trained. — Dayne Jordan
This is not a surprise as Dayne Jordan always keeps a trick up his sleeve but it’s the perfect ending to the music video for Family Man as he shares the TRUTH when rapping that “It’s hard to keep it together but work it out for the better because when it comes to the kid they need both of you to be present.” Now if that is not the truth I don’t know what else is because it definitely takes a village to raise a child. Remember it now when I tell you that Jordan is definitely earning his rights to be discussed amongst the lyrical class of emcees that are emerging right now and sooner or later people will tune into his messages.
