The killing eve kiss on my crt tv
source
I've been hacking on Railroad Tycoon (DOS, 1990) for a week+ now and I decided to finally put some of my knowledge to good use and I made a custom map for the game:
It's the Trans(-continental) Railroad (Tycoon)!
Tenna and the irreversible flow of time.
Tenna and family values.
Tenna vs the internet.
Like, you really feel it when you're part of Toby's generation. I was there in the 2000s. Flat screen TVs had been invented, but we couldn't be bothered to replace our CRT TVs until they broke, because the internet was already starting to be more important than TV. (Even without streaming services, or tiktok, or youtube videos more than 10 minutes long. )
But for things like holiday specials, mythbusters, america's funniest home videos, for playing nintendo games side by side, we gathered around the TV together.
Modern internet is infinitely more fun than cable TV was. You can watch more interesting things, that are perfectly tailored to your interests, and you can watch them whenever you want.
But it also means you don't have people all watching something at the same time in the same place. Unless everyone in your house likes the same twitch streamer, I guess. I think the lack of choice with traditional TV is one of those things that makes people miss a simpler time.
And the amount of freedom we get with the internet, and the rapid social change, are also things that scare people.
(Tenna is passive, you have to come to him to switch on the power, but once you're there being a couch potato in front of the TV, the broadcasting stations have complete control over what you see. All you can do is change the channel, but you can't decide what airs or even pause the show.
Other analysis I've read, people wrote about how Tenna is more passive than Spamton and how his design has soft friendly curves, but I think it's also very important that Tenna needs control. I think he's a very controlling person. He's the rook. He's the tower, a broadcast tower. )
the twinz!!
looking up CRTs to use as a drawing reference then i just start crying because CRTs are adorable and i love them
