this seems like as good a time as any to say iâm not calling the âwar on drugsâ that anymore. that name is explicitly US gov propaganda. itâs the war on addicts/crips, or the war on the addicted/disabled.
it was never about drugs. it was always about murdering two majority BIPOC groups seen as âweak linksâ of society, and then dividing us so that weâd perpetuate oppression for them.
if it was a war on drugs, theyâd have stopped making the drugs. instead they planted even more drugs, and imprisoned, abused, harassed, denied healthcare, and murdered the addicted and disabledâwhich caused even more drug deaths, and killed so many off us. itâs still killing us.
it hasnât stopped, and i refuse to call it âwon.â weâre still here, and weâre still denied life saving drug access and treatment.
this, btw, is why âstop calling [x things people do to get medicated] drug seeking!â is always gonna fall flat, because itâs blatantly falseâmeds are drugsâand misses the point entirely.
the issue isnât acknowledging drug seeking. drug seeking is not inherently good or bad, and often necessary to survive. most people with untreated health conditions are drug seeking, and thatâs okay. i am in fact seeking drugs because i need painkillers to live. it doesnât stop being drug seeking because i have a âgood reason.â itâs not more moral than an addict trying to access supply in a safer way.
youâre not helping us by saying weâre totally not drug seekers. work on destigmatizing drug seeking, addiction, painkillers, recreational drugs, mind altering pain medication. thatâs how you help us.
we have a right to seek life saving care.
the anti addict and anti drug seeking implications of âpeople seeking needed pain meds arenât drug seekingâ is not cute. a ton of addicts have untreated health issues, and addiction rates are lowered when there is more free access to drugs/medication!
chronic illness liberation is addict liberation is disabled liberation is BIPOC liberation is cripple liberation. none of them can be separated. stop pitting disabled people who need drugs & healthcare against addicts who need drugs & healthcare, and start fighting the corporations and systems trying to kill us both.
