What part of a world you've made is your favorite/are you most proud of?
Ohhhh boy you have opened a can of worms my friend so I apologize if this answer gets really long (but also thank you so much for asking and giving me an excuse to talk about this!)
My current world-building project is actually my DA2 modern AU longfic (which I’ve talked about a little before and written a couple things), Lyrium Ghosts. It started innocently enough as a regular degular modern AU, but then it somehow very quickly snowballed into a massive world-building project and universe all its own. It’s a work in progress, and I haven’t even started publishing real chapters, but it has become a behemoth of a project so I really want to get it to a good spot I feel comfortable with before I start formally releasing it to the world. So with that in mind--
One of the non-spoilery parts I’m proud of and really like is actually just the premise this fic and this world spawned from: “there’s no magic, but instead there’s drugs?” This stupid sentence literally started the entire process that has resulted in tens of thousands of written words and become this huge project that’s so close to my heart, so that’s why I’m saying it’s one of the things I’m most proud of-- it kind of summarizes how the entire world-building of the fic came to be.
Lyrium is the drug in question-- it’s a powerful substance with a lot of uses and applications, one of which is as a recreational drug. But there’s also a small percentage of the population who have unique biochemistry that not only reap the beneficial enhancing properties of it without the side effects, they also need it to stay healthy and live (the equivalent to mages, basically). So there’s a legal and an illegal side to lyrium-- that of the Circles, who carefully control and distribute it to the people that need it, and the underground drug trade of it-- and as such, there can be a lot of problems and conflict. And thus the fic was born
And as for my favorite part of the world I’ve built? There’s a lot, but honestly my top dumb favorite is probably the fact that Hawke has the most beat up, awful, POS pickup truck you’ve ever seen and he sometimes calls it Dragon.
