Hi curiousbird! QPPs/QPRs; queerplatonic partners/queerplatonic relationships (or quirkyplatonic partners/quirkyplatonic relationships if you are uncomfy with the word queer) are best described as “ambiguously romantic”. Like any relationship, they depend on the people involved. But common factors among qpr is that it’s “not just friends” but not “dating”. It’s a relationship that defies social norms. Many qpprs involve people who considered each other life partners, they may even adopt or have kids together, likely share a home, and are close that outsiders may think they ARE dating. They get enough intimacy they need without needing it from romantic partner(s). There may be some or no romantic feelings at all. Now qpps were coined in the aro community and the ace community quickly picked it up, but remember, they aren’t limited to an acespec or arospec person. Anyone can have them! And it’s healthy to do so! Qpps can be poly, there are plenty out there who may have a qpp and a romantic partner, or there’s more than two qpps. It depends on the people involved.
