There's a NEW and MYSTERIOUS figure that just made his first appearance in the new arc of Dirilis Ertugrul... the wealthy trader who comes to not-so-subtly spy on Ertugrul's business lmao.

I have a suspicion that he's the Sultan himself in disguise who has come to check if Ertugrul is actually after his throne or a loyal Bey, since he has become quite powerful. But I'm not very sure, and I love the suspense.

Dündar is an icon. The rich stranger goes "hey, your older brother's clearly dedicated to war and very talented at it. Is he, by chance, you know, interested in politics as well?" and Dündar responds with "ask him yourself, bro. Let's :) talk :) about :) rugs :)))))"

So Doğan kinda died in the worst, most avoidable battle. And it's not because Dündar was being young and naive, it's because Dündar stopped telling Ertuğrul about his actions because he felt like everybody betrayed him about his personal business. Which is understandable and makes Doğan's death kinda Halime's fault, which is just batshit insane because she was right but when she pressed the matter to Ertuğrul he didn't grasp the severity of the situation. Ertuğrul, for all his perfection, should have kept his brother in check.

There could have been several ways to handle this: Dündar, when he realized that he accidentally told the secret away, could have owned up to Ertuğrul and they could have chosen a different time of day / route for the secret mission. The information they wanted to send would have allowed for half a day's regroup.

What is incomprehensible to me is why, when he and Doğan were ambushed in the woods and were clearly vastly outnumbered, Dündar got off his horse. This wasn't the time were 5 heroes magically win against 20 goons in a heroic feat of an action sequence. This was 2 against like 40. Doğan had enough battle experience to know to turn around the second he saw how many soldiers were coming at them, and to fight their way home on horseback before they were completely surrounded. It required split-second thinking though and perhaps Doğan hesitated because Dündar outranked him as Bey despite being that much younger.

I am also angry at the fact that Dündar didn't even take off his stupid hood, which was clearly a hindrance to his breathing and mobility in the fight, that he put himself into a vulnerable position by separating himself from Doğan instead of fighting back-to-back, and that it's Ural who delivered the final blows. Dündar just sucked, he lost his focus and stumbled around aimlessly, and Doğan, in and of himself a great warrior, paid the price quickly due to sheer enemy numbers.

CONGRATULATIONS to Doğan though for making it successfully back to his tribe before succumbing to his injuries, and for passing away in the arms of his friends and loved ones.

That was some of the most believable grief acting I've ever seen by the way. When multiple grown men including Ertuğrul cry and ROAR at the loss of their brother, that's......... appropriate. Doğan deserved nothing less. Banu Çiçek took it like a champ, though. Like, of course she's devastated, but unlike other tribeswomen when they lose their husbands, I think she knows that she is mostly going to be okay. She always was.

So, as for the stupidity of Dündar Bey:

I have arrived at the point where he sells Hanli Bazar, and people on Reddit have argued that Dündar is either naive or that there was really no other solution. I beg to differ.

Things Dündar could have done:

get more gold from Ertuğrul's gold mine, and use that if money is what they needed

ask the Sultan for help instead of going to Ares and Saadettin???

band together with the other Turk tribes which they had just made a united peace and trading agreement with???

set a trap to at least figure out who was raiding the caravans???

transfer power to Artuk Bey

set up Aslihan's marriage as soon as Turgut returned so the Kayi and Çavdar tribes can converge and stand stronger

at least think solution-oriented instead of quitting everything immediately

Like, this is what I'm getting off the top of my head just from having watched this show for quite some time now. Dündar is supposed to have been under Ertuğrul's mind and leadership for decades. The thinking process should have bled SOMEWHERE.

Hayme Ana was correct to point out that Dündar Bey is no Ertuğrul. That in and of itself is valid and okay. But Dündar didn't even ask himself what his brother would do. Years they've spent on campaign in the Western region now and Dündar has somehow not understood the very basics of what they are doing there, who their enemies are and what their goal is.

Some people said that Dündar may be a little slow because he got hit on the head as a kid which put him in a coma. And it's true that the Turks didn't seem big on realizing mental health issues even back in season 1 where they almost rather killed Turgut than acknowledge that he was in severe drug withdrawal. So Dündar's so-called stupidity may have completely flown over their head, as he derives his position and authority less from his own deeds and more from the fact that he's the son and brother of someone influential.

I propose a different theory, which is that Dündar has PRIDE and he messed up in the past so he wants to prove himself, choosing a different path than Ertuğrul simply because it's different from what his brother did. If Ertuğrul avoided Saadettin, Dündar is going to work with the Emir, etc. just to prove that he can do it too. He is also too proud to ask for help or to give up his power within his own tribe.

Unfortunately, little Dündar, the scope of the situation has kinda fully escaped you and you are going on a decision spree that destroys not only you and your tribe, but also the other tribes in the region, extended local politics and, by association, your entire state. If you're not a leader (and you are not), are clearly aware of it and are clearly struggling, just give the responsibility to someone else.

Dündar, my baby, you are cute and I've always loved you, but what are you doing. Oof.
