I watched D.A.R.Y.L. a couple days ago and I'm now adding it to my Top Gun/Knight Rider/Real Genius crossover au

Basically, Chris helped to make Daryl like he did with Kitt. Nobody knows about this.

Daryl ends up in California and meets Mitch and becomes friends with him. Chris doesn't realize this, so for a while he doesn't know that they know each other. Chris finds out, and he tells Daryl "hey, I know a car kinda like you. I helped make him, actually" and they go meet Kitt, Michael, Devon, Bonnie, etc

Turtle is here to. And he'd love Chris's sense of humor. Chris, Turtle, and Michael get along well. Michael takes everyone on rides in Kitt, and don't tell Michael, but Mitch and Daryl are Kitts favorites. When they get back Kitt, Mitch, and Daryl talk about nerdy stuff (/affectionate)

They eventually all go down to wherever Ice, Mav, Goose, and Slider and the others are. Little family reunion because Ice and Chris are cousins. They get a little tour of the jets and Daryl LOVES the F-14s. He actually has an F-14 diecast in his bedroom (this is canon!!)

Scary Childhood Memory

One of the most traumatizing childhood memories I have came from a bright orange Nickelodeon VHS tape, one of the Rugrats Christmas specials.

The cartoon itself wasn’t the problem, it was the ad that played before the cartoon.  It was a commercial for a bunch of old Paramount movies that were coming soon on tape, set to the Happy Days theme song.

The first half of the ad is benign, showing clips from Charlotte’s Web, the Robin Williams Popeye movie, a Peanuts cartoon, but then it takes a HARD right in the middle with imagery that made my 3 year old self quake with fear.

0:19 the alien scared me so much that, to this day, I have a visceral fight of flight response when I see the dancing flapper girl a couple shots before because some part of my childhood brain is still like “oh shit, the scary part’s coming up”

0:23 the dragon just looked creepy, but it gets much worse

1:32 - 1:34 THESE ALIENS ARE SO MUCH WORSE THAN THE FIRST ONE.  They stared into my soul, they were waving right at me, like they were gonna get me specifically

1:47 it’s even creepier when it moves.  When I was a toddler, I figured that if the adult in the scene is scared, then I should be too especially the closeup when it screams in response at 1:49

For YEARS I was unable to listen to the Happy Days theme because I associated it with childhood terror.  I couldn’t be in the same room as the TV when my parents put on this tape, I had to step away so I wouldn’t see the ad because they didn’t feel like fast forwarding to the feature presentation.  The horrifying visuals set to such an upbeat song gave my 3-year-old self horrible anxiety that I had no way of coping with.

Looking back now, these are all quaint and the practical effects aren’t half bad.  I’ve never seen any of the movies whose clips scared me, but I would like to.  It feels like a rite of passage, like it would bring me closure after twenty years.  I was a toddler the first time I saw this, and I wasn’t ready for it, so I think I’m gonna track these all down and binge them this year
