Huge shout-out to @ss-shitstorm who has given me one of the coolest commissions I've been trusted to work on recently;
I was asked to paint a ram's skull, and this is the final shot right before letting all the glow in the dark paint dry and signing it. ;v;

Heh, bonus pic! Ram Skull had good company while i was working. This is a red fox skull, another commission for a different friend :D
The red fabric isn't random cloth; that's an arm band i was given years ago at a historical event i was asked to participate on the security team of as a Dog Soldier. They needed a trusted woman on the team as all the volunteers that year were male, and it was an honor to be asked. I didn't end up being needed for anything, but the memory still warms my heart with the fuzzies.
Flipping the board around was both easier and trickier than i expected, and I'm so relieved it turned out well. Deciding to paint it was a last minute decision while i had it separated from the skull.
I also used a 0.05 micron pen for a very few accents, and a white acrylic paint pen. Most everything is brushwork though 👀 i use tulip brand puff paint for the hidden glow in the dark painting that's done over everything. Sadly, i don't yet have a camera that can take glow photos, so that'll remain a surprise.

I juat finished catching up on "When Work's Your Passion" and I was wondering — did we ever get a literal translation for the word ki'a? The first time it's used, Soundwave goes on to think of the reader as an exotic pet, but I wasn't sure if that was the actual meaning or not.

Short answer:
YES IT TRANSLATES INTO PET and YES I'M CACKLING
Long Way Over-thought Answer:
If memory serves (i don't have easy access to my lore notes document atm), I have it as being an "approximate" translation rather than a perfect 1:1
I like to think there's actually a few words in various Cybertronian dialects that you could use for 'pet' and Soundwave picking *this one specifically* was a dick move. He wanted to insult us, but his insult accidentally became an endearment jokes on him (and also us i guess xD)
But basically, he claimed legal and caretaking responsibility for her the moment he started calling her that. It's usually reserved for 'non sentient' or simply very low caste individuals. Ie, animals and say, minicons who have tool alt modes like Swindle does in most my fics, or a bot classified as a drone. It is not a nice word for a Cybertronian to call someone, and honestly, it's hilarious to be that the Autobots never found it he's been calling her it this entire time.
I kind of wanted them to, but it just... Never came up, pleasantly, and the reader spends so much time writing extremely detailed reports of everything she did and observed that's a high priority, she skips whatever is deemed as inconsequential. Plus that healthy dose of not wanting to invite the Autobots to discuss at all how Sources treats us ;) hehehehe. Anyhow, i decided I'd rather we find out after we're abducted, because it'll hit different than if we'd found out much earlier.
Anyhow, he hasn't actually named the reader, so much as he's been addressing us by a title (as he said, an "appropriate designation") this whole time. It'd be like looking at your service dog and saying "Service Dog, wishes to remain Soundwave's Service Dog?"
It's why he so often uses phrases with a possessive / says "little K'ia" or "Soundwave's K'ia" - it wasn't to be cute, (though he's definitely by now picked up on the fact reader thinks it is).
It's because he's literally referring to us as an owned thing rather than by our name and was mocking us. It gave him distance from his captor.
Jokes on him though he caught the feelings with a capital F even though he LITERALLY avoided NAMING HER SO HE DIDN'T GET ATTACHED and also the insult went away over reader's head indefinitely until #abducted because we're too work focused and gullible, so like. He failed on all counts lmfao
Also i need to delete something in the tags so i can add "pet play" to them, because i feel like this is heading in a funny and sexy direction. 😏
