Hailing from Val Royeaux, Kafka Verdul is a spirit healer of considerable talent. He managed to remain undetected by templars well into his twenties, running a clinic in the city’s elven Alienage. His eventual discovery saw him relocated to the White Spire.

Kafka had no difficulty undergoing his Harrowing and joined the ranks of the Libertarians when he was made a full-fledged enchanter—the extent of his involvement with the Resolutionists is unknown. He was imprisoned and sentenced to execution following the events of the first conclave. He fled the White Spire in the commotion following Pharamond’s death and took refuge in Andoral’s Reach with the other rebel mages. From there, he travelled to Ferelden when the monarchy offered sanctuary in the Arling of Redcliffe.

It should be noted that Kafka has lost family members to both templars and chevaliers; Orlais is not kind to elves nor mages. Furthermore, his appearance suggests he suffered ill treatment during his time at the White Spire. It would be understandable if he harboured resentment towards these orders, and as such his behaviour is being closely monitored.

Since joining the Inquisition he has made himself indispensable to the infirmary, both in Haven and in Skyhold. The surgeons speak highly of him and praise his knowledge of standard practice; if made to accompany the troops, Kafka may be an asset to Inquisition forces stationed in forward camps.
