You looked around the guest bedroom and then started packing things away.
Hoseok was gone on tour and it was the perfect time to set up those nursery supplies that both sets of parents had been giving you two ever since you had started trying for a baby. You’d been trying for two years now, with no success.
Until now.
You took your time, first thoroughly cleaning the room, then setting everything up while he was gone. Just what you already had stored away for when this day did come.
Two weeks later, and you were anxiously awaiting Hoseok’s return. He had messaged you that they had arrive back safely, and then let you know when he was on his way from the old dorm.
You fluffed the stuffed animals, including the cute Mang plushies that you hadn’t been able to resist relocating into what was now going to be the nursery.
“Y/n?”
You grinned and rushed out to him, throwing your arms around his neck and holding tight when he caught you and held you as well.
“Aah! Honey! I missed you!”
“I missed you more! I love you, I love you, I love you,” You murmured, kissing all over his face, and lingering on his lips.
He laughed, holding you still so that he could look at you. “You look more beautiful than when I left.”
“I’ve been doing some redecorating. I started in the guest room. You want to see?” You started pulling him along.
He chuckled. “I’d rather see our own bedroom, and that outfit you wore before I left, but sure. We can stop at the guest bedroom on our way.”
You gave him a grin. “It’ll be worth it. Trust me.”
He stopped you and gave you a kiss. “Anything that makes you this happy is.”
You pushed the door open.
He looked inside and his smile fell off his face with his surprise. He looked around the room for a moment, then looked at you, swallowing hard. “You’re pregnant?”
You nodded, smiling. You were starting to get worried.
He smiled, but he also sobbed, wrapping you into his arms and crying. “I love you.”
“Oh, baby,” You murmured, giggling softly as you held onto him.
“I’m so happy,” He told you, laughing and crying now, pulling away so he could kiss you. “I’m so, so happy. When?”
“Well, you’ve been gone for two and half months,” You pointed out. “So, in about six and a half. In the spring.”
“How long have you known?”
You looked at him semi-sheepishly. “It would have upset you if I told you when you couldn’t be here with me.”
“So, for a while,” He concluded, grabbing the tissues and wiping away his tears. “Oh my God, we’re going to be parents! We’re going to have a baby!” Fresh tears fell from his eyes.
You kissed them away. “Our own little bundle of hope and joy. The hope from you and joy from me.”
He grinned at you, then looked down at your stomach, running his hand over it. “Hi, little one.”
You kissed his exposed forehead, running your hand through his hair.
He suddenly looked around the room and looked up at you. “You did all of this while pregnant? Honey, you moved the bed—”
“My friend’s brother and dad came and moved the bed for me. I can’t move that thing when I’m not pregnant. And the rest I did in increments. Mostly I just packed things away and cleaned. I did liberate some of your Mang plushies for the nursery though.” You quickly pecked his lips.
He relaxed a bit and kissed you as well. “That’s okay. That’s perfect. I can’t believe we’re finally…after trying for so long it’s just…” He let out a wet laugh, and breathed in shakily. “This is the best welcome home present I’ve ever gotten.”
“Who says the present ends here?” You asked, biting your lip.
He looked up at you, mildly confused.
You went over to the dresser and picked up the picture.
His eyes got huge and he eagerly took the picture. “That’s our baby.” He grinned up at you, crouching on the floor.
“Yeah, it is.”
“When can we find out if it’s a boy or girl?”
“It’ll be a few more weeks, and that’s only if it’s a good day,” You sat on the rug with him, letting him cradle you in his arms. “I’ve been dying to tell you. You’re going to be the best dad.”
He was quiet. “What if I’m too strict? Or…what if I give them the same look I give my group-members during dance practice?”
“Baby, don’t forget I’m here to temper you just as you’ll temper me. Our child is going to be so loved, we’re going to have to fight your members to make sure they don’t spoil her. Or him. I go back and forth.” You sighed happily as he started gently rocking both of you back and forth. “I notice you’re not in a rush to get to our room now.”
He laughed softly. “I’m so insanely happy right now that I could start crying again at any second.”
You turned and kissed him. “I love you.”
He grinned back at you. “I love you. And I love our baby. Oh! We should surprise the boys with this!”
You grinned. “Sounds like a plan to me. How should we do it?”
He laughed, shaking his head, then looked at you sort of strangely. “I want a girl.”
“What?” You asked, shifting so you could look at his face better.
“I want a girl, and I want to name her Joy.”
You bit your lip, smiling. “Like you want to name our son Huimang?”
He let out an embarrassed laugh. “I forgot about that.”
“We’ll keep the name in mind, but we both know that no matter what we get, we’ll love them with all of our hearts. Just like we love each other,” You kissed him to seal the idea.
He smiled at you, nodding. “I don’t think I can love our child more than I love you, though.”
“That’s acceptable.”
“Doesn’t make me a bad parent?”
“No. Kids leave the nest. We share it for the rest of our lives.”
He sighed nodded, looking at you with so much love and happiness. “I love you more than anything in this world.”
You didn’t dare try to one-up him, so instead you kissed him softly but passionately.
The father of your child.
