“You never told me how practise was today,” you hummed, snuggling into your husband’s bare chest, the two of you relaxing for the first time today as you got into bed.
Kun chuckled, “same as always, princess, it never changes.”
“No? Yangyang didn’t do anything stupid? Lucas didn’t hurt himself?”
“Yes to both of those, and you know better than anyone that those things happen everyday, it never changes.”
You laughed, “we missed you.”
Kun hummed, “I missed you. So much. Was she good today?”
“Mostly,” you shrugged, “wasn’t latching on, but when she did she was good.”
Kun sighed, “god, all I want is more time at home. I don’t to abandon the boys though. It’s like having an older child and trying not to make them jealous of their baby sister!”
“That’s exactly what it’s like, actually,” you chuckled, “it’s okay, love, I don’t want you to stay at home any more than you have to.”
Kun hummed, both of you with closed eyes and drifting off to sleep before you could finish the conversation.
“She’s up again,” you muttered, stirring from the transition into sleep.
“How do you know? She’s not crying.”
You opened your eyes with a groan, reaching over and grabbing the baby monitor so you could both look; sure enough, Xiaolian was kicking her feet in the air, hugging her blanket in her chubby little fists.
“Yes but she’s not crying,” Kun said, taking the baby monitor out your hands and putting it on his bedside table, “we only have to go when she’s crying.”
“Are you sure? Aren’t we just supposed to go if we know she’s up?” you questioned, now fully awakened, sat up to look at your husband.
“I don’t know, love,” Kun sighed, rubbing your back, “I say we leave her, okay? She’s obviously not in any pain or distress.”
“I feel bad though, what if she’s confused?”
“She’s four months old, she’d cry if she was confused, or if she was unhappy, or sad, or angry, or uncomfortable, or in pain. I promise.”
You sighed, laying back down on Kun’s chest.
“How did you even know she was awake?” he asked, his voice soft again.
“Mother’s sense.”
Kun chuckled, kissing your head as he began to close his eyes.
“Do you think she can hear us through the baby monitor?” he asked.
“Hmm? No. We turned that off.”
“Or just through the walls?” he asked.
“She’s a good couple rooms away, baby.”
“Why isn’t she crying then?” he asked, sitting up and grabbing the baby monitor as he did so, inspecting his daughter.
“I don’t know,” you chuckled, sitting up and resting your chin on his shoulder, “I’m sure she’s okay, though.”
“Right,” Kun nodded.
“Cause if she wasn’t... she’d cry.”
Kun nodded once again, “exactly.”
“I’m worried about her.”
He laughed, resting his head on yours, “me too.”
“God, this parent thing is hard,” you whined lightheartedly, “I just don’t know what to do.”
“Look, she’s happy,” Kun shrugged, pointing at the screen on the baby monitor, “let’s just sleep while we can.”
You nodded with a sigh, “no, you’re right. It’s rare sleep anyway.”
“Goodnight, my love,” Kun smiled, pulling you into his arms and closing his eyes for the third time that night.
“Goodnight.”
You too closed your eyes, listening to Kun’s heartbeat as you laid your head on his chest. Suddenly, as though a sixth sense had taken over you, you held your breath and waited; as if on cue, Xiaolian started screaming.
“You sure we have to go now?” you asked.
Kun chuckled, sitting up like a zombie, “come on.”
here’s the fifth part of this series! kun’s family is honestly so adorable :)))
here’s the masterlist for all things nct dad related! there’s more parts to this that you guys can read so go and check them out!
QIAN KUN
he has 2 daughters, qian lei and qian fen. lei is 5 years older than her little sister, fen.
QIAN LEI:
>> as a baby <<
she stole kun’s heart from the second she let out her first breath
she’s kun’s princess and he’s 100% taken by her
she was a little more on the fussy side
but kun was there to make sure she was okay
through and through
kun was an amazing father from the start
like he didn’t really read a lot of parenting books, he only read like one
he was naturally an amazing father
he knew how to deal with everything with lei
like all of nct would be amazing fathers
but kun is honestly like the best
the boys would go to him for parenting advice
kun would know everything and have an answer to all of their questions
anyway
lei was a pretty normal baby
she was born prematurely and was really sick :,(
she had to stay behind in the hospital for a little bit
you were really sad and panicked a lot, but kun took this news very well
he was nervous, but he was supportive for you and he gave you a shoulder to cry on
thank goodness he was strong for you
because his strength let lei get better faster than expected
she was so tiny as baby
kun held her so delicately
like she was made of fine china
hehehe puns
anyway
because she was sick, she was pretty fussy
there were many nights that she kept you up because she was so uncomfortable
kun would wake up for all the hours of of the night to comfort her
like you know the video of the toddler crying and the dad straight up climbs in her crib and sleeps in the crib with his toddler?
kun would do stuff like that
because kun sang to her a lot whenever she’d cry, she started developing her love for music at this early age
>> as a child <<
kun taught her how to play piano and it’s her favorite instrument
she learns how to write songs at this age
she’s really good at the piano and she has the sweetest voice
you and kun put her in all of the advanced piano classes
she loves it
as a child, she was pretty competitive with piano and music
she’s the type of girl that like is really studious
she just wants to make you guys proud
and she does, and you let her know that
but she still works hard to
she’s best friends with lucas’s oldest son, wong liwei (they’re born the same year)
they became close because they spent so much time together growing up
they’re almost polar opposites, but they’re still close friends
liwei is kinda dumb lol
lei is really smart
so she tutors him
liwei respects lei and he listens to her
lei is a little more on the mellow side
she’s friendly and a little more quiet
she gets along well with everyone, but she especially gets together well with taeil’s oldest daughter, moon yoojin
they’re both rather quiet so they bond over that
while akari, noah, kaleb, etc. were playing, yoojin and lei would stay back and read together
(read the other parts if ya wanna learn more about the other kids ;))
lei was really bad at sports because of it lol
even still, she was still crazy smart
she always thinks logically
her music was actually really beautiful, but she lacked the emotions
everything would be technically perfect, but it lacked the human aspect
she was devastated because she thought she got everything perfect
liwei helped teach her how to be more emotional with her stuff
and she started looking at love and beauty in the world
like she took in the love kun and you have for each other
she took a step back and learned about the love she has for her sister
the love she has for liwei
she just took all of that and expressed her emotion through her music
that was the last step she needed until she became truly great
this is how liwei and lei truly became best friends
it’s because he taught her that it’s okay to have emotions lol
she learned how to love better because of it :)
>> as a teen/adult <<
she became a well known song writer
she doesn’t necessarily want to be an idol herself
but she does enjoy helping them write songs
she really loves jazz and wants to increase the complexity of music
she doesn’t really want her music to be cookie cutter music
a lot of ballad singers go to her for music
because her music is really complex and beautiful
taeil’s son, moon seojoon, did a whole album with her
all of the kids who do stuff with music work with her
piano is her main instrument, but she knows how to play so many more
music is her life
she views music in a philosophical sense
(i also view music like this so imma get a little philosophical on y’all lol)
she knows that music lives on past any of us
and it’s this higher thing that isn’t ours
lei learned that, and that’s why her music is so good
she’s friendly and kind, but she knows how to be professional and how to treat music with respect
she will never ever trash people for their style tho
like there are a couple kids who became idols
and she supports them 100%
she’ll teach them about music if they’re curious
she’s respectful and supportive and will never tear anyone down because they don’t believe in the same things she does
she’ll go to nakamoto yui’s flower shop whenever she needs inspiration
she knows how to write all types of music tho
like she can make a sick beat
or make a killer rock piece
her favorite style to make is jazz
liwei is still her best friend at this point
he still learns a lot from her
she learns from him too
honestly, he’s her muse lol
like and he’s so kind about everything
he could listen to her talk for hours about this new theory she discovered
and like he won’t really understand a word
but he’ll still listen
whether they get together or not, they still are each other’s best friend
they compliment each other so well
lei writes songs for you and kun all of the time
kun even writes songs with her whenever he can
he’s so proud with all that his daughters have done
lei dedicates so many songs to the two of you
like ugh she’s just a really amazing music lover
QIAN FEN:
>> as a baby <<
she loves all things that are soft
she’s also kun’s princess
he’s so happy he had 2 girls
he loves them oh so much
he wouldn’t trade any moment for anything
fen wasn’t sick at all
she was happy and healthy
she was also very tiny tho lol
she loved to eat everything
she wasn’t picking with anything either
fen would eat anything you put in front of her
she was like always hungry too lol
she was tiny when she was born but she gained a lot of baby fat
she had the fullest cheeks
everyone wanted to squeeze them all of the time
she has dimples
you’re sure she got her dimples from kun
but kun is sure she got her dimples because you guys kiss her cheeks so much
you nicknamed her mochi because of her cheeks
she was your typical baby
she loved to play
she loved to sleep
her favorite toys were her little plastic cooking toys
kun hated every moment he was away from his two princess
he truly did spoil the heck out of them
the girls got along with each other really well too
when you were pregnant with fen
lei would attend to your every need
like while kun is cooking for the family
lei would go and make you some tea because your belly made it hard for you to stand up without someone’s help lol
like lei was a really good older sister to fen
fen didn’t really complain a lot when she was watched by lei
she was just an all around chonky cutie :)))
>> as a child <<
she discovers that she loves cooking at this age
she’s really good at cooking too
like
she showed up on one of those kid cooking shows
she learned that this is what she wanted to do from an early age
fen discovered that food is yummy
and to make the yummiest food, you make it yourself
she’s best friends with lucas’s second son, wong liqiang
they became best friends because their born the same year
and fen went with lei a lot whenever they went over to lucas’s house
they’re the same age and they both agree that food is like the best thing ever
she loves your’s and kun’s cooking
like no matter how good she gets
she’ll prefer your cooking over her’s any day
she loves to eat too
she loves to bake
she’s always baking cookies
like omg imagine
kun is busy with work
you’re also busy with work
lei is busy with practicing her piano or something
and liqiang and fen are just hanging out
they’ll make cookies together
and they’ll go by to everyone individually, delivering the cookies
they’ll be the cutest
with their big eyes, they’ll look up at you and say something like “good job for working hard! please take a cookie.”
those cookies were some of the best cookies you’ve ever had
fen is really caring and kind
she loves making people happy
she especially loves to make people happy through her cooking
>> as a teen/adult <<
she turned her love for cooking into a career
she becomes a well known chef
she goes to university to study the science of food
she owns her own cafe
she makes gorgeous sweets
fen doesn’t care for gourmet food
she used to
she worked under a world renowned chef for a while and learned she didn’t really like it
it wasn’t fun
she wants her food to make everyone happy
and it does
liqiang and her open up a cafe together
it just has happy vibes throughout
they make yummy food
she makes sure she makes the recipes you and kun taught her
and those are some of her best ones
she comes to work everyday with a smile because she’s doing what she loves
all of the kids go to support her and liqiang’s cafe
they all collectively agree that her food is the best
a lot of food critics and reviewers love her food
even though she doesn’t own a gourmet restaurant, they still call it a must see when you visit the city she lives in
liqiang handles more of the business aspects of everything
they’re platonically best friends
liqiang also loves to make people happy
and if it’s through this business, then man, he’s satisfied
fen honestly just lives an amazing and full life where she does what makes her happy
lei supports everything she does
and fen supports everything lei does
they’re still really close together
fen cares so much about her friends and her family
she hates it whenever they’re sad
she knows that food heals all wounds
and she makes the best food
so if anyone ever wants to sad eat, go to her and she’ll take care of you.
---

Snow falls at great speed outside of Kun’s childhood bedroom window. It feels strange, laying in his slightly unfamiliar bed, your brand new baby girl laying on your chest, still unnamed, having only been born less than twenty-four hours ago. It’s late, nearly midnight, on Christmas Eve. You’d been staying at Kun’s family home in China for around a month now, preparing for the birth, and now that your daughter was finally here, Kun’s mother had spent the day filling you up with hot drinks and food, and plenty of rest in between.
Now, Kun is quietly darting around the room, getting himself ready for bed.
‘Want me to put her down for you?’ He offers, holding his arms out, ready to take her from you.
‘Please,’ you murmur, the idea of sleeping suddenly very appealing.
The baby girl whimpers a little as she’s taken from you, but her cries cease as Kun rocks her gently, placing her into the bedside crib.
Kun flicks the lamp off, climbing into bed beside you, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you into his warm embrace.
‘You cold?’ He mumbles, knowing his mother would scold him if she knew you were in any type of discomfort.
‘No. Really warm,’ you respond, already half-asleep.
‘Good. Happy Christmas Eve, darling,’ he kisses your forehead.
You don’t respond, already in dreamland.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
The baby wakes you up quite a few times during the night. Kun helps out brilliantly, bringing the baby to you to feed, singing quiet Christmas songs to her when she cries, keeping both of you warm.
It’s around five in the morning when you both come to the realisation that you’re not going back to sleep, so you bring the baby downstairs into the living room, where the gold Christmas tree lights glow softly.
‘Hot chocolate,’ Kun smiles, holding out the warm mug.
’Thank you,’ you take it with both hands, shivering at the way it spreads warmth throughout your entire body.
‘Good morning,’ his mother appears in the doorway, ‘and good morning little one!’
‘Little one is in a milk coma,’ Kun responds, showing off the baby in his arms.
‘Little one needs a name,’ you grumble, ‘didn’t expect her to come so early. Should’ve given me more time to think.’
Kun laughs at you, ‘how about that be our Christmas present to her? Give her a name before the end of the day?’
‘Good idea,’ you smile, continuing to enjoy long sips from your hot chocolate.
Kun settles on the sofa next to you, baby still in his arms, but being mindful of your still aching body.
‘Merry Christmas,’ he takes your hand with his free one, squeezing it gently.
‘Merry Christmas, Kun.’
‘Merry Christmas you two,’ Kun’s father appears in the doorway, ‘ready for presents?’
Your gift giving is a quiet, but lovely event. You’re all not overly reactive in order to keep the baby calm, thankfully she is for the most part, even in the arms of her grandmother.
’This is for you, from me,’ Kun hands you a box-shaped present, ‘I saw it and I knew you’d love it.’
‘You better not have spent too much,’ you shoot him a disapproving look.
‘You’re my wife,’ he shakes his head, ‘let me spend money on you.’
You unwrap the paper to reveal a pretty jewellery box. You lift the lid, to reveal a beautiful necklace, a rose with a stem. It looks almost like it was made of glass, unworthy of you to even wear.
‘It made me think of you. Of us, remember on our first date I bought you roses because I didn’t know what kind of flowers you liked and I thought they were the most clearly romantic option.’
‘And I reacted so well you bought them for me every week for months until you found out they weren’t actually my favourites. Of course I remember,’ your eyes gloss over at the memory. He smiles sheepishly.
‘It’s beautiful,’ you trace the shape of the flower with your thumb, ‘I love it. Thank you.’
You try to lean over for a hug, but he immediately moves to meet you.
‘I love you,’ you murmur.
‘I love you too,’ he kisses your cheek, careful to be subtle with the PDA in front of his parents.
Dinner is of course amazing, as it is made by Kun’s mother, your own meal carefully curated to include all of the ‘warming’ foods for post-birth.
The rest of the day is very relaxed, the four of you sitting in their living room for most of the day, you periodically nursing the baby and being fed and watered by Kun’s parents.
‘Red date tea,’ his mother hands you the hot tea cup, which you happily accept with both hands.
‘Thank you,’ you take a long sip, shivering at the way the warmth settles in your stomach.
’The necklace Kun gave you had me thinking,’ she sits down beside you just as Kun enters the room, holding your daughter in his arms.
‘What is it?’ you ask, eyes never leaving the baby.
‘How about Li-wei? For the baby’s name?’
‘Li-wei?’ Kun questions, looking down at the baby for a moment to try and visualise calling her by that name.
‘You can write it with the characters for beautiful and rose,’ his mother explains, ‘it would be so meaningful for you both.’
You and Kun share a look, almost trying to gage the other’s approval.
‘I really like it,’ he nods, ‘she looks like a Li-wei.’
‘I love it too,’ you smile, ‘Qian Li-wei.’
‘Merry Christmas, Li-wei,’ Kun rocks her, ‘I hope you like your present.’

⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
‘She’s sick?’ Kun echoes your words down the phone, eyebrows knitted together, mouth open in surprise, ‘she seemed ok when I kissed her goodbye this morning.’
‘I know, it just came out of nowhere,’ you run your hands through your hair, ‘after you left, she refused to eat her breakfast and now she’s curled up in bed with a temperature and a cough. Is it possible for you to come home? She really wants her daddy.’
‘I’ll see if I can. My poor girl. I’ll call you back.’
Kun absolutely hated it when his daughter was unwell. Li-wei was his only child, his angel. You saw it in their relationship, Li-wei was 100% a daddy’s girl. As soon as she began feeling even slightly sick, she had whined and begged for Kun.
Kun’s hand fell down his face, until it was resting on his chin, as he thought about the next thing to do.
He left the bathroom in search of the members, who he imagined were still in the dance studio stretching or scrolling on their phones.
‘I’ve got to go home,’ he announces loudly, already beginning to gather his jacket and other things together.
‘What, why?’ Hendery asks.
‘Is everything ok?’ Xiaojun adds, eyebrows knitted together in concern.
‘Li-wei is really unwell.. she’s apparently asking for me.’
‘Oh I get it,’ Yangyang nods, ‘Julia is so whiny when she’s sick.’
‘Kyla is exactly the same,’ Ten grumbles, ‘and I mean Charlie couldn’t give less of a shit about me when she’s sick, but-‘
‘Bye!’ Kun yells, quickly pulling open the door and practically slamming it in his haste.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
Kun drives home as quickly as possible. It’s past rush hour, so there is hardly any traffic around, making it easy to get home.
‘Baby? Li-wei?’ He calls out gently, worried that either one of you could be asleep.
‘We’re in here,’ he hears you from your bedroom.
When Kun enters the room, the two of you are curled up in the middle of your kingsized bed, Li-wei hardly visible under a mountain of tissues and a sippy cup.
‘Daddy,’ Li-wei mumbles when she spots him in the doorway.
She holds her arms up weakly, indirectly asking for cuddles from him.
Kun drops his bag on the floor, tugging his hoodie off. He pouts and sighs, crawling onto your bed and pulling his three year old into his arms.
‘I’m here now,’ he strokes her hair, kissing her cheek.
From where you were just laying on your back, you shuffle so that you’re laying on your side, looking at Kun.
’Thank you for coming home,’ you whisper, ‘I hope they weren’t mad you had to leave.’
‘Nah, they didn’t mind. I think they understood, to be honest.’
Your heart melts at the sight of Li-wei, pink nosed and clinging to Kun’s shirt.
‘How are you feeling angel?’ Kun’s heart breaks at the sight of his little girl’s discomfort.
‘My nose is… stuff.’
‘Your nose is stuffy?’
The small girl nods, ‘And it’s hot. The back of my mouth… hurts.’
‘Ah my poor baby,’ Kun kisses the side of her head multiple times, ‘has Mama given you some medicine?’
Li-wei just nods, fiddling with the ear of her toy elephant.
‘She didn’t enjoy it very much,’ you half grumble, and Kun can imagine the fight it was to convince her to take the strawberry flavoured liquid.
‘I can imagine,’ Kun laughs dryly, picturing your struggle.
’Tasted icky,’ Li-wei weighs in, ‘Mama said strawberry. It was not strawberry.’
‘It was strawberry flavoured!’ You splutter, ‘I didn’t lie!’
‘Mummy/mommy is just terrible, isn’t she?’ Kun says in an attempt to tease you, and you deliver a soft kick to his shin. Kun just laughs, continuing to stroke Li-wei’s hair.
Li-wei has no reaction, which is out of character for her, since she usually giggles.
‘You’re really unwell, aren’t you?’ Kun glowered, a dull pain settling in his chest at the sight of his poor daughter.
Li-wei sniffs and nods weakly, ‘sick.’
‘I know sweetheart… Is there anything you want? We can watch a movie?’
‘I wanna nap,’ she mumbles, shifting her head around on Kun’s chest to get more comfortable.
’As you wish princess.’
Kun gets comfortable himself, slinging his arms as far as he can physically reach around you both.
‘Goodnight my loves.’
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
Li-wei wakes up about two and a half hours later in a cold sweat. She had shook Kun awake, nose running and eyes watering.
‘Are you alright?’ Kun had asked, half asleep.
‘I’m too hot,’ she complains, ‘I’m sweating.’
‘Okay sweetheart, do you want me to get you a drink?’
’Yeah,’ Li-wei croaks, throat obviously dry.
‘Ok my angel, I’ll be right back.’
Kun makes the water as quickly as physically possible, coming back and giving it to Li-wei. She gulps it down in copious amounts, putting down the cup with a loud sigh.
’Is that a bit better?’
‘A bit,’ she mumbles, ’it’s too hot here.’
‘Do you wanna go sleep in your bed?’ Kun asks, knowing it could be a lot cooler in there.
‘Will you come with?’
‘I’ll have to see if I can fit, but I’ll try,’ Kun chuckles, ‘come on my baby, let’s carry you to your own bed.’
Kun carries Li-wei into her bedroom, gently placing her in her bed.
‘Let’s get some fresh pyjamas,’ Kun suggests, ‘get those sweaty ones off.’
He opens her pyjama drawer, pulling out some plain white and yellow ones. The shirt was short sleeved and the bottoms only reached the knees.
Kun helped Li-wei change into the fresher pyjamas, and she lays back down on her back, getting into a comfortable position to sleep.
‘Don’t leave,’ she mumbles, ‘I don’t want to be by myself.’
‘Ok Li,’ he curls up beside her, but at a distance to not bombard her with even more body heat.
When you woke up, you were extremely confused, wondering where your husband and daughter had disappeared to.
You initially checked in the living room, thinking that maybe they had gone to watch TV as to not wake you up. When you realised the room was empty, you call Kun’s name, but to no avail.
You venture back up the stairs, poking your head around Li-wei’s bedroom door. And that’s when you saw them, curled up together. You can hear Li-wei’s whistling breathing through her stuffy nose.
Kun is also fast asleep, looking possibly the most peaceful you’ve ever seen him, likely knackered from the weeks on end of practice.
Seeing no room to lie down for yourself, you reluctantly tiptoe out of the room, going downstairs to prepare chicken soup for the both of them, as Kun will inevitably fall sick too. But you know he doesn’t mind.
