The moonlight casts silver ribbons over the endless horizon, painting Kun’s face in a glow too ethereal for someone burdened by eternity. He stands at the edge of a cliff, where the wind howls like the ghosts of years past—years he has lived, years I have spent by his side.
I take a step closer, the crunch of gravel beneath my boots too loud in the silence. He doesn’t turn. He knows I’m here. He always does.
“How long has it been?” His voice is steady, quiet. It carries the weight of centuries.
“Three hundred years, give or take.” My fingers twitch at my side, aching to reach for him. “Do you ever lose count?”
“Sometimes.” He exhales, and it’s not just air he releases—it’s time, longing, regret. “But I never forget you.”
His words burrow deep, sinking into the cracks of my being where love festers like a wound. I have fought wars for him, faced the wrath of kings, watched empires rise and fall—always at his side, always his protector.
Always the one who failed.
No matter what I do, the curse remains unbroken. A thousand spells, a hundred prophecies, a lifetime of searching for answers, and still, he lingers, unaging, untouchable by death. And I—just as cursed in my own way—remain bound to him, watching the centuries etch sorrow into his eyes.
And yet, my greatest sin is this: I no longer search for a way to free him.
Because with every passing year, my love for him grows. And if his curse is eternal life, then mine is the unbearable truth—I do not want to lose him.
“Kun…” My voice wavers. I want to tell him. I want to confess the weight of this love, the selfishness of my heart.
But before I can, he finally turns to face me, and whatever I was about to say dies on my tongue. His gaze is soft, unreadable, yet there’s something there—something unspoken, something waiting.
“I don’t think my curse is the only one at play here,” he murmurs, stepping forward, his presence wrapping around me like a whisper of warmth. “Maybe… we’re both trapped.”
His hand brushes against mine. Just barely. Just enough for me to wonder if maybe, just maybe, he already knows the truth.
The night air feels heavier now, charged with something unspeakable, something neither of us dares to name. Kun’s fingers barely graze mine, but even that fleeting contact sends shivers up my spine.
He has always been careful. Always distant.
But tonight, something is different.
“You think we’re both cursed?” My voice is barely above a whisper. “You, bound to eternity. Me, bound to you.”
Kun tilts his head slightly, studying me as though searching for an answer in my face. Or perhaps, searching for a truth he already knows.
“I’ve thought about it for centuries,” he says at last. “Why you? Why must you be the one to protect me? Why does time refuse to take you, when every other mortal has long since turned to dust?”
The question lingers between us like a breath of cold wind. It is not the first time he has asked it, but it is the first time I hear it laced with something else—something dangerously close to hope.
I swallow hard. “You think my fate is tied to yours.”
Kun nods. “Or maybe you are my fate.”
My heart stumbles over itself, the weight of those words pressing down on me, threatening to pull me under. For three hundred years, I have watched him endure an existence that no one should have to bear. I have fought alongside him, bled for him, suffered for him. And in return, I have fallen into something deeper than devotion.
I have fallen in love with him.
And love, I fear, is just another curse neither of us can escape.
I take a step closer, my breath catching as Kun doesn’t move away. The space between us is thin—so thin that if I reached out, I could touch him. But I don’t. Not yet.
“Kun,” I whisper. “What if the curse has already been broken?”
His brows furrow slightly, confusion flickering in his gaze. “What do you mean?”
“What if it was never about breaking it?” I murmur, pulse hammering in my ears. “What if it was about understanding it?”
His lips part slightly, but he says nothing.
“You have lived for centuries, and I have stayed by your side,” I continue, each word trembling on my tongue. “I’ve searched for answers, for spells, for miracles. But what if the only reason I have never found a way to free you is because… I didn’t truly want to?”
Silence. Heavy. Suffocating.
And then—Kun lifts a hand, hesitates, then cups my cheek with the gentlest touch.
“You’re saying…” His thumb brushes lightly over my skin, his eyes searching mine. “That you love me too much to let me go?”
The truth tastes like fire on my tongue.
“Yes.”
Kun’s breath hitches, and for the first time in three hundred years, I see something in him I have never seen before.
Longing.
He exhales softly, his forehead pressing against mine. “Then maybe that is my real curse,” he whispers. “Not eternity. Not immortality. But loving you in a world where time does not belong to me.”
The stars above us burn bright, but nothing in this world, nothing in all of existence, burns as fiercely as the way he looks at me now.

Snow falls at great speed outside of Kun’s childhood bedroom window. It feels strange, laying in his slightly unfamiliar bed, your brand new baby girl laying on your chest, still unnamed, having only been born less than twenty-four hours ago. It’s late, nearly midnight, on Christmas Eve. You’d been staying at Kun’s family home in China for around a month now, preparing for the birth, and now that your daughter was finally here, Kun’s mother had spent the day filling you up with hot drinks and food, and plenty of rest in between.
Now, Kun is quietly darting around the room, getting himself ready for bed.
‘Want me to put her down for you?’ He offers, holding his arms out, ready to take her from you.
‘Please,’ you murmur, the idea of sleeping suddenly very appealing.
The baby girl whimpers a little as she’s taken from you, but her cries cease as Kun rocks her gently, placing her into the bedside crib.
Kun flicks the lamp off, climbing into bed beside you, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you into his warm embrace.
‘You cold?’ He mumbles, knowing his mother would scold him if she knew you were in any type of discomfort.
‘No. Really warm,’ you respond, already half-asleep.
‘Good. Happy Christmas Eve, darling,’ he kisses your forehead.
You don’t respond, already in dreamland.

The baby wakes you up quite a few times during the night. Kun helps out brilliantly, bringing the baby to you to feed, singing quiet Christmas songs to her when she cries, keeping both of you warm.
It’s around five in the morning when you both come to the realisation that you’re not going back to sleep, so you bring the baby downstairs into the living room, where the gold Christmas tree lights glow softly.
‘Hot chocolate,’ Kun smiles, holding out the warm mug.
’Thank you,’ you take it with both hands, shivering at the way it spreads warmth throughout your entire body.
‘Good morning,’ his mother appears in the doorway, ‘and good morning little one!’
‘Little one is in a milk coma,’ Kun responds, showing off the baby in his arms.
‘Little one needs a name,’ you grumble, ‘didn’t expect her to come so early. Should’ve given me more time to think.’
Kun laughs at you, ‘how about that be our Christmas present to her? Give her a name before the end of the day?’
‘Good idea,’ you smile, continuing to enjoy long sips from your hot chocolate.
Kun settles on the sofa next to you, baby still in his arms, but being mindful of your still aching body.
‘Merry Christmas,’ he takes your hand with his free one, squeezing it gently.
‘Merry Christmas, Kun.’
‘Merry Christmas you two,’ Kun’s father appears in the doorway, ‘ready for presents?’
Your gift giving is a quiet, but lovely event. You’re all not overly reactive in order to keep the baby calm, thankfully she is for the most part, even in the arms of her grandmother.
’This is for you, from me,’ Kun hands you a box-shaped present, ‘I saw it and I knew you’d love it.’
‘You better not have spent too much,’ you shoot him a disapproving look.
‘You’re my wife,’ he shakes his head, ‘let me spend money on you.’
You unwrap the paper to reveal a pretty jewellery box. You lift the lid, to reveal a beautiful necklace, a rose with a stem. It looks almost like it was made of glass, unworthy of you to even wear.
‘It made me think of you. Of us, remember on our first date I bought you roses because I didn’t know what kind of flowers you liked and I thought they were the most clearly romantic option.’
‘And I reacted so well you bought them for me every week for months until you found out they weren’t actually my favourites. Of course I remember,’ your eyes gloss over at the memory. He smiles sheepishly.
‘It’s beautiful,’ you trace the shape of the flower with your thumb, ‘I love it. Thank you.’
You try to lean over for a hug, but he immediately moves to meet you.
‘I love you,’ you murmur.
‘I love you too,’ he kisses your cheek, careful to be subtle with the PDA in front of his parents.
Dinner is of course amazing, as it is made by Kun’s mother, your own meal carefully curated to include all of the ‘warming’ foods for post-birth.
The rest of the day is very relaxed, the four of you sitting in their living room for most of the day, you periodically nursing the baby and being fed and watered by Kun’s parents.
‘Red date tea,’ his mother hands you the hot tea cup, which you happily accept with both hands.
‘Thank you,’ you take a long sip, shivering at the way the warmth settles in your stomach.
’The necklace Kun gave you had me thinking,’ she sits down beside you just as Kun enters the room, holding your daughter in his arms.
‘What is it?’ you ask, eyes never leaving the baby.
‘How about Li-wei? For the baby’s name?’
‘Li-wei?’ Kun questions, looking down at the baby for a moment to try and visualise calling her by that name.
‘You can write it with the characters for beautiful and rose,’ his mother explains, ‘it would be so meaningful for you both.’
You and Kun share a look, almost trying to gage the other’s approval.
‘I really like it,’ he nods, ‘she looks like a Li-wei.’
‘I love it too,’ you smile, ‘Qian Li-wei.’
‘Merry Christmas, Li-wei,’ Kun rocks her, ‘I hope you like your present.’

a/n: hey there @meiideryz! it’s me, amelia, your secret santa 🤶🏻 I hope that this fic adds to your Christmas cheer! Merry Christmas, stay safe and have a wonderful holiday <3
"I'm sorry what?" Thinking you were joking, Kun looks up from his coffee, an amused expression gracing his features, only to find a deadpan expression on your face. "Why so sudden?" he asks.
You groan, fingers furiously flying across the tiny screen of your phone. "You know how my family does those big Christmas gatherings every single year without fail?"
Kun nods, already putting two and two together. "Let me guess – you want to avoid the incessant questioning about why you're still single," he answers.
"Bingo". You answer with a snap of your fingers, continuing to type away on the screen. "'Is it that no one wants you?' 'Must find boyfriend fast, women got expiry date leh'," you mock your family members in a high-pitched voice, specifically the aunties, making Kun laugh out loud. "Yeah, no thanks. That's why I need a fake boyfriend – and fast. The gathering's in a week, and we’re going to some Christmas carnival".
"You could have just asked me, you know?" Kun doesn't know why, but the words just leave him and he has to summon all his willpower to stop his hands from flying up to cover his mouth. Sure, he'd been nursing a secret crush on you – but he hadn't quite dared to make any move on you, for fear of spoiling the friendship you two already had, and this was the closest he had come to doing so, albeit unintentionally.
You pause your frantic googling for fake boyfriend services and stare at your friend, unsure if you'd heard him right. "Wait, say that again?"
"I mean, I can do it for you. Follow you to the Christmas carnival, talk to your relatives, play carnival games with you guys, and that's it. Seems fine to me," Kun says with a nonchalant shrug, acting like whatever he just said earlier wasn't a slip of the tongue.
The gears in your head begin turning as you contemplate his offer. You knew that he'd be a choice selection of a fake boyfriend – he was the textbook definition of a gentleman. All the years you'd been friends, he was always the one holding doors open for you, listening to your rambles, and just simply taking the best care he could of you. In addition, he had many talents. All of this, coupled with his otherworldly good looks, make him perfect boyfriend material-
-okay, calm down now y/n, you're just friends, you gently chide yourself. But yes, he would definitely be able to impress your family, even the most critical aunties, which would hopefully get them to leave you alone for future family gatherings. Which was the whole point of you getting a fake boyfriend. In addition, Kun would benefit too since he'd get to earn some money – so win-win, right?
But there was one problem – a wish that he was more than just your friend had begun to grow, just like the blanket of snow that had been thickening since the beginning of winter. You worried that if you really were to take his offer, your feelings would only grow, and come in between the precious friendship you two had built up over the course of several years.
Then again, considering how badly you really needed a fake boyfriend, taking his offer probably would be the best option at the present point. "Alright then, if you say so," you finally decide. "How much should I pay you?"
"Ah- there's no need for that," Kun quickly replies, waving his hands in protest. "You're my friend, I should help you out".
For some reason, these words send a rush of butterflies to your stomach. Trying to conceal the dash of pink that you were sure coloured your cheeks, you bring your head down to sip at your coffee. Fortunately it works, and you properly address him again after, sending him a playful glare. "Fine. But I'll treat you to a sumptuous meal in return, you better not say no".
Kun sighs, knowing that he wouldn't be able to talk you out of that one. "Well, if you insist. Just send me the details of the gathering and we'll be good to go," he answers, whipping out his phone.
"Thank you so much, Kun," you respond, flashing him a smile of appreciation.
"Anytime". He simply replies with one word and a gentle smile.
You forward him the messages from your family group chat, all while reminding yourself that he was a fake boyfriend, not a real one, and that the line between best friend and boyfriend would still exist. At the same time, you do your best to ignore the tinge of pain in your heart that accompanied the warm feeling of gratitude.
"You two were dating? For how long?" Your brother, Hendery, queries, agape mouth giving away his astonishment.
It's Christmas Eve, and you and Kun are now in your dad's car with mum, dad and older brother, on the way to your family's Christmas gathering.
"Yeah, for about a month," Kun helps you answer when he catches sight of the panicked look that flashes across your face.
"You can pick your jaw up off the floor now," you add, taking the chance to tease your brother.
"I knew that you were close to each other, but I didn't know that you both were dating," your father hums, fingers tapping on the steering wheel. “Luckily I bought an extra ticket, just in case y/n shows up with some ‘surprise’, if you know what I mean. And she did,” he finishes, shooting you an amused look from the rear view mirror.
“Dad,” you groan, albeit goodnaturedly.
"It’s a pleasant surprise, though. Not only does Kun take excellent care of y/n, he's also a great influence on her," your mum chimes.
"Mm, I agree," your dad muses.
"Thank you auntie and uncle, you're too kind," Kun chuckles, humbly downplaying your parents' compliments.
So if we really were to date, we'd have the approval of my parents… you entertain the thought for a moment, before slapping yourself mentally. You knew that Kun was only helping you, and that a relationship between you both was not likely to be on the cards at all.
Before you know it, your family has arrived at the carnival’s carpark. “Act, now,” you mouth to Kun, hoping that none of your family picks up on the subtle cue you gave him. Kun understands, and helps you out of the car before slipping his hand into yours, and the both of you follow after your parents, over to the fairgrounds where the rest of your family is.
“Y/n! Long time no see!” One of your aunts, Auntie Diana, comes straight up to you and engulfs you in a hug too tight for your liking, which you reluctantly return. She then looks up and sees your friend next to you. “Is this your boyfriend?”
“Yes, he is. Meet Kun,” you respond, gently pushing your friend slightly in front of you so he could introduce himself to your aunt.
“Oh my gosh. Selene! Wendy! Y/n’s finally found someone, after all this time!” Auntie Diana exclaims, and two of your other aunts come rushing over.
“Hi aunties, I’m Kun. It’s nice to meet you all,” Kun introduces himself politely with a small bow.
“Wah, y/n, congratulations! Thought no one would want you, but you proved us wrong,” Auntie Wendy teases.
Your aunts then proceed to bombard him with questions, such as why he decided to date you, what your relationship goals were, and several other questions. How naturally he answered them should have been a sign of his obvious interest to you, but it wasn’t. You just played it off as him being an excellent actor.
“What do you like best about her?” Auntie Selene asks. All of your aunts regard him with the same expectant gaze.
“Well, for starters, she’s a kind and genuine person to everyone. I really admire her resilience too — for all the time I’ve known her, she’s shown herself to be tough, even through hard circumstances,” Kun answers with barely a second thought. “Her sense of humour also never fails to make me look forward to going out with her as well. I mean, there’s more that I like about her, but if I were to list them all we’d be stuck here forever,” he adds with a nervous laugh.
“Wow, you really do like her, don’t you,” Auntie Diana says. “Y/n, you’ve found a good guy, must treat him well,” she advises as you acknowledge her with a grunt and a polite smile.
“Wow y/n, you’ve got this guy all whipped for you,” Hendery, who was on the sidelines listening to the exchange, grins and reaches over to ruffle your hair teasingly yet affectionately.
“Yeah, yeah”. You casually play off your brother’s teasing as you usually do, ignoring that twinge of pain making its presence known in your heart again.
Meanwhile, Kun observes the scene, your aunt’s words ringing in his heart. Oh, y/n, if only you knew.
“Y/n-jie!” A happy shriek disrupts his train of thought. Looking down, he’s met with a tiny girl with a red backpack running to you as fast as her legs could carry her.
“Kyla!” you exclaim, bending down to receive a hug from your young cousin, who you loved with all your heart. She was one of the few reasons you decided to attend today’s family gathering, the other being that you wanted to catch up with your other cousins later.
It’s at this moment Kyla notices the boy beside you. “I’m Kyla,” she introduces herself bashfully. “Auntie Selene told me you’re y/n’s boyfriend?”
Kun’s heart melts at the sight of her, finding her adorable. “Yes, I’m her boyfriend,” he answers, kneeling down to be at her eye level. “You can call me Kun-ge,” he tells her, offering her a fist bump which she happily returns.
“Alright, everyone, we can talk more later,” your uncle decides, clapping his hands to get the whole family’s attention. “Let’s get going, it’s time to enjoy this carnival!”
You follow after your family, one hand holding Kyla's and the other holding Kun's, relieved that your fake boyfriend ploy was successful so far.
A couple of hours had passed, mainly consisting of you trying to avoid more awkward conversations with your aunts, sampling delicious carnival food with Kun (who was more than willing to treat you), going on rides with your other cousins and enjoying a long chat with them. Of course, they were curious to know more about your new supposed boyfriend, and talked with him as well. Now, you and Kun were at the dart stall, trying to win Kyla a stuffed bunny.
Eyes locked on the red balloon, Kun aims his dart at his target before throwing his dart at it with the precision of a sharpshooter. As expected, it bursts on contact with the dart. “Yay! Thank you so much, Kun-ge!” Kyla squeals as Kun hands her the stuffed bunny, before throwing her arms around his neck. “You’re the best!”
“You’re welcome,” he replies softly, the same fond smile appearing once again.
“Kun-ge, may I ask you a question?” Kyla asks, innocently batting her eyelashes as she looks up at your “boyfriend”.
“Sure, go ahead,” he replies. After all, she was just a kid, her questions would just be innocent, harmless fun, right?
“Since you and y/n jie are boyfriend and girlfriend now, that means…” she trails off, looking ahead into the distance as she considers her words. "You'll both get married, and then you'll really be my Kun-ge forever, right?" She finishes, eyes bright with all of her 5-year old excitement, glancing up at him expectantly.
"Well-" he can't lie, the question has caught him off guard, and he tries to conjure up a response quickly. "Maybe? Right now, it's too early for us to know for sure. We’ll see in the future, alright?”
“I hope that you and y/n can get married, and then we’ll be a family!” Kyla exclaims, clinging on to Kun’s leg. “I like you a lot, and I like y/n jie and Hendery-ge a lot too!”
Kun doesn’t speak, but bends down to pat her head gently. He puts together the scene that Kyla described — and his heart warms at the thought of all of you being a family. A complete, wonderful family. As he’s relishing this fantasy, a “ho ho ho!” steals Kyla’s attention. It’s a man dressed in a santa outfit surrounded by elves, giving out candy to children. “Y/n-jie jie! Santa’s giving out candy, let’s go!” Kyla yells, turns around. “Kun-ge! Hendery-ge! Let’s go!” she beckons to them with a wave of her tiny hand.
Just as Kun is about to agree, Hendery stops him and stoops down in front of your cousin. “Kyla, I need to speak to Kun-ge alone for a little while. Why don’t you go ahead with y/n-jie first?” he says, kind brown eyes meeting her gaze.
“Why? What do you need to talk about?” she asks, her five-year old self obviously not understanding. But to be honest, you didn’t either. Sure, Hendery had met Kun prior to this, but their interactions never extended beyond polite small talk. And suddenly they had things to discuss by themselves?
“Oh erm, it’s, you know, bro talk,” he laughs nervously, garbling out what he thought would be an understandable reason to your cousin. “It’s something only guys understand. Tell you what, you take y/n-jie with you, and then Kun-ge and I will find you guys later, okay?”
Though Kyla doesn’t fully understand, she simply nods earnestly, before tugging on your arm again. “y/n-jie, let’s go! See you later, geges!” she giggles, skipping ahead. Though you're curious to know what the two boys had to discuss, you decide not to pry and follow your cousin.
Much to Hendery’s relief, the adults are still engrossed in their own conversations, leaving him and Kun some privacy to talk. “You said you wanted to talk? What about?” Kun poses the question to Hendery, furrowing his brows in confusion.
Hendery says nothing, instead watching both you and Kyla run further into the fairgrounds. “You really like y/n, don’t you?” He finally says after about a minute.
“Of course I do,” Kun replies, not seeing where the conversation was headed. “Why else would I date her then?”
“You guys aren’t really dating,” Hendery calmly continues, returning his gaze to Kun. “You’re her fake boyfriend for tonight, aren’t you?”
"What do you mean, fake boyfriend?” Kun answers with his own question, feigning confusion. “We’re officially together”.
Hendery shakes his head, indicating that he doesn’t believe Kun. “Nope. Don’t even try lying. I know the whole truth. Y/n didn't want the family to bother her about still being single, so she wanted a fake boyfriend for tonight. You offered to help her, so here you are," he remarks, showing that he indeed wasn't lying – he knew the truth.
"Now how do you know – did y/n tell you?" Kun responds, still shocked after Hendery's accurate retelling of your situation. Did you tell him anything? That was unlikely, since the whole point of a fake boyfriend was for you to be able to throw your family off the trail. Telling Hendery, a family member, would only be counter effective.
"Nope. Heard her over the phone," he answers, recalling the phone conversation you'd had with one of your friends last night. “I didn’t eavesdrop on purpose. She was just so damn loud,” he clarifies as Kun shoots him a questioning look.
“Okay, congrats then — you have us busted,” Kun admits with a shrug as he turns back to where a grinning Kyla stood next to “santa”, posing as you snapped some photographs of her with your phone. “But why was this so important that you had to pull me aside for ‘bro time’?”
“I wanted to ask you to confess to her”. Hendery stops beating around the bush, getting straight to the point.
Hendery’s statement sends Kun’s jaw to the ground in the next second. “What? No way!” He protests.
“Why not? Since you like her so much, might as well tell her, right?” Hendery reasons.
“I don’t even think she likes me back that way. If I were to just tell her how I really felt about her, I could spoil our whole friendship,” Kun explains, expressing his previously unspoken fears to your brother, who grunts understandingly as he listens. “I’m not throwing away four years’ worth of friendship just because of this stupid crush”.
“I beg to differ,” Hendery interjects. “She likes you too. Legit”.
“She said that?” Kun inquires.
“Well, over the phone yesterday, yes. ‘I know he’s only a fake boyfriend, but I like him so much! I’m afraid though — what if I tell him I like him but he doesn’t like me that way? I’ll ruin our whole friendship!’” Hendery remarks, imitating your tone of voice as you complained about your dilemma to your friend yesterday, drawing some laughs out of Kun.
“Wait — you’re serious?” he asks, morsels of hope beginning to appear — like the first flakes of snow falling from the sky.
“I’m serious”. Hendery replies, sending Kun a firm nod of reassurance. “Based on what I’ve heard from her, I’m positive she won’t reject you. Tell you what, can you promise me one thing?”
“What’s that?” Kun asks, curiosity piqued as he awaits your brother’s answer.
“By the end of tonight, you confess to her. I don’t care how you do it, you just gotta tell her how you feel,” Hendery states, holding out his pinky finger. “Promise to do that? I’ve known her for the entire 17 years of her existence, so trust me when I say not only will she not reject you, you'll make her whole Christmas. Besides, you’re the only guy I really trust to take care of her”.
Hendery’s last sentence warms Kun’s heart like hot cocoa on a snowy day, and it gives him the final push to make his decision as he links his pinky with Hendery’s. “Promise”.
“And remember, if she happens to reject you, though that’s as likely as the dinosaurs resurrecting from the dead-“ Hendery pulls out his own business card from his coat pocket, and hands it to Kun. “You can text or call me, and I’ll talk to you as soon as I’m free. Don’t worry, you’ve got this,” he reassures, giving Kun a pat on the back.
Kun stuffs the card in his coat pocket, feeling immense gratitude towards Hendery. If not for him, he wouldn’t have the courage to tell you how he really felt. “Thank you so much, Hendery”.
“Anytime,” Hendery answers with a smile. “Now come on, let’s go catch up with them!”
“AAAAHHH!” You scream at the top of your lungs as the Viking swings up with a jolt, before swinging back down. Adrenaline courses through your veins as you continue to scream in both exhilaration and fear. Kun’s screams fill your ears as well, though you know that it’s most likely from thrill and elation — through the years you’d known him, he’d proven to be very much the adrenaline junkie.
“Are you alright?” Kun laughs as he helps you off, though seeing your dazed state as you stumble off the ride concerns him slightly.
“That was awful…why did we go on that one…” you pant.
“I mean, this was part of our ‘battle plan’, was it not? Before we went I even asked you if you really wanted to go on this ride!” Kun reminds you, still laughing at your disorientated state.
The ‘battle plan’ he was referring to was the plan that both of you had come up with together to, in your words, “conquer the whole carnival”, including the remaining food stalls and rides. Your family had left, but both of you had opted to stay and continue exploring the rest of the carnival.
“You’re right”. You admit. “Let’s move on. I wanna drink hot chocolate”.
Which is how both of you end up sharing a massive hot chocolate, topped with a generous amount of whipped cream and chocolate syrup, walking around the fairgrounds together. Though this isn’t the first time you and Kun have shared drinks, this time as you take the paper cup from him and sip on the chocolatey goodness in it, you feel the all-too-familiar fluttering in your tummy again. The feeling disappears momentarily, but then returns with a vengeance when you notice how your hands are interlocked with his. Whether he realised it too or not, you would never know, but it sends a heat wave to your cheeks, causing you to subtly turn away and try to get the blushing under control. Part of you wants to hastily pull your hand out of his grip, but the other part of you can’t bring yourself to do it — as if your hand is stuck to his by super glue.
Unbeknownst to you, Kun is struggling to subdue the fluttering of his own heart as well, even more so after realising your hands were still linked. By the end of tonight, you confess to her. Hendery’s words from earlier still ring fresh in his mind. Earlier, he had made that promise as some sort of brazen confidence had come over him while he was chatting with Hendery, but it had gone as soon as it had come, which he found mildly annoying. Whatever, since I promised Hendery, I better get it done, he tells himself, summoning his determination again.
“We’ve got a last ride to go on, right?” your voice draws him out of his thoughts, and he turns to you with a small nod.
“It’s the ferris wheel, if I’m not wrong,” Kun adds. “Let’s go”.
Hands still intertwined, both of you head to the queue. There are fewer people than you expected, due to the fact that it’s getting late, which allows you both the luxury of one capsule to yourselves. Both of you sit in silence, admiring the view of the fair as your capsule begins to rise up into the air. The colourful lights and neon signs, the tents of the different food and game stalls, the sweet scent of cotton candy that wafts straight to you — you sit in silence with Kun, your hand still in his (to your mild embarrassment), soaking in all of the sights and smells of the fair. “Wonderful, isn’t it?” you remark to Kun as he raises the cup to his lips.
“It really is,” he agrees. “But you know what would make this night even more wonderful?”
“What?”
“If you could give me your heart,” Kun finishes.
A moment of silence follows as confusion sets into your mind. “I’m sorry, please repeat that? Is this…a confession?” You ask, trying to wrap your head around his previous sentence.
“…you could say it is,” he answers, turning to you slightly. This time, you catch sight of the pinkish hue on his cheeks.
Of all the emotions you feel, you don’t expect amusement to be your main emotion in that moment. But considering the cheesiness of his entire confession earlier…how could it not be? Before you know it, you’re bursting into guffaws. “Kun! Oh my gosh…you did not just…” you laugh over and over again until you’re wheezing. “Since when did you become so cheesy?”
“I…I don’t know! All I know is, I’ve liked — no, loved you for way too long, and I just had to tell you how I really feel, okay? I couldn’t keep quiet about it anymore,” Kun stutters, the embarrassment clearly now sinking in as he rambles. “Gosh, that came out in the worst way possible”.
You wipe away the tears of laughter that had gathered in your eyes, finding his flustered state adorable. Now that he’d told you how he felt — albeit in a cheesy and somewhat cringey manner — you found the courage to tell him you felt the same way too. “It’s okay, Kun. Yes, I’ll give you my heart this Christmas,” you answer, looking him straight in the eyes. You were well aware your cheeks were burning like a furnace, but you couldn’t care less. Thank God both of you had gotten a capsule alone, because neither of you would be able to handle the embarrassment of this whole confession in front of a bunch of strangers.
“Wait, you mean it?” Kun asks incredulously, eyes growing wide enough to rival dinner plates.
You say nothing, but just nod. “Yes, I love you too. Now that we know how we both feel towards each other, shall we seal the deal with…a kiss?” you suggest, lips curving into the widest smile you’ve ever smiled in your entire seventeen years of life.
“I’d love to”. Kun replies, though somewhat shyly.
You take his other hand in your own, and move towards him, and he does the same as both of you prepare for the kiss — but end up being met with a pile of whipped cream. In your excitement, you’d both forgotten about the cup of hot chocolate in between the two of you. “Ugh, talk about a double fail. First my cringey confession, and now this,” Kun laughs sheepishly, wiping the whipped cream off his nose.
“I know right,” you chuckle, doing the same. “It’s alright, let’s do that again. Before this ride ends”.
With that, the distance between both of you closes. Sparks fly in your head as your lips make contact, and an unexplainable euphoria floods over you. This was the one gift that you didn’t expect to receive for Christmas, but the best one yet — nothing santa could give you would match up to this, that was for sure. Pulling away, you both gaze into each other’s eyes with lovestruck gazes. “Merry Christmas, Kun. I love you”.
Dragged to celebrate your birthday at a place you wouldn't call your cup of tea. Nothing was of your liking, not even after making eye contact with the man that ticked all the buttons - physically speaking - it seemed shallow and not your thing. You weren’t just going to let him win.
Determined to tease him till he exploded. You were in control to make him do and not do whatever you desired.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU~!!!"
You gathered your hair to the side to blow the incorrect number of candles on the cake which you found funny. You thanked your colleagues repeatedly after looking at your watch thinking that you were way past your bedtime, sighing as you watched how everyone was enjoying themselves way too much with their drinks and regretting having agreed to coming, because you admittedly weren’t enjoying yourself. This was simply a place of choice..
Your work colleagues had made the effort of booking the booth in the club you were currently in. You thought it would've been rude to decline the invitation to your own birthday party, the problem was that you despised places like that. Darkness, loudness and drunkenness equaled unhappiness from your side. Even your mother's 80s shiny foil dress you wore with the big shoulder pads and wide belt felt ridiculous despite the compliments you received. It just wasn't you or you. You just couldn't stop looking at your own reflection at the mirrored column and how that sleek straight gelled hair and red lipstick looked on you. Just who was that girl trying to smile as if nothing? You didn’t even recognise yourself… And who was that local boy that was accompanied by six other guys eyeing you ever since you entered?
From where they sat, a lot was happening…
"Gege! I'll talk to her!"
"Stay put, Lucas." Kun stopped him, placing his hand on his chest. "You're too handsome and I really can't afford her thinking that too." He shoved his heavy drink in his mouth trying to think. "No one talks to her but me."
"Well… you better start thinking about it because you're starting to get drunk and she's looking at her watch." Ten commented.
"I just need to think of a way."
"How about Ten-ge goes for his gay act? It truly is infallible." Winwin suggested.
Ten watched Kun's not refusing reaction so he just headed towards you. He stood at the booth entrance waving at you and like a magnet you went to greet him.
"Hi! Happy birthday! Oh my god, I'm sorry but I had to come and ask about the lipstick you’re wearing. You look stunning. Girl and I got jealous."
"Oh my god! Thank you."
You smiled fixing your hair behind your ear, an action that didn't go unnoticed by Kun who groaned loudly, his friends laughing at the action, understanding how much he was into you.
"Do you have it with you now? Can I swatch it, please?" Ten extended his hand.
"Sure!" You looked inside your purse, getting the lipstick out, holding Ten's hand smudging some on the back of his hand.
"Stunning! You're so nice." He looked at his hand. "Gosh I'm so rude, my name is Ten by the way." He extended his hand for a handshake.
"Nice to meet you, Ten. I'm ___."
"___! Now that we're new besties, would you like to join me and my friends for a drink?" He pointed where the guys stood at the bar.
"Oh I wish I could. I'm celebrating my birthday with my colleagues." You declined. "Plus so many handsome guys at once intimidate me."
"They are, aren't they? So much eye candy." He giggled. "Out of curiosity, who do you think is the best looking?" Ten asked cheekily.
"Oh gosh." You squint your eyes. "That's a tough one. Who do you like?" You challenged.
"Hmm. I'll tell you if you do first." Ten winked at you.
"Well OK, let's see… the very tall tan one is amazing, but also the shorter one is super handsome… however, I guess the pale one would be totally my type." You simply put. "Your turn."
"Can you believe all those fuckers are straight?" Ten explained offended. "But yes the pale one, Kun is also my type." Ten raised his hand for a high five. "I really got to introduce you now." He held your hand jumping little excited jumps.
"I swear I wish I could, maybe some other time." You declined shyly again when you noticed how Kun's eyes widened expectantly.
You really weren’t ready for that encounter. It was undeniable that he liked you and you just couldn’t understand why when the place was full of hot girls everywhere. Was he maybe into foreigners? Easy sex was the idea they had about them. Was he looking for a quick fix from the girl that seemed the easiest judging by your looks?
"Alright. I'll take your word for it. You have to give me your phone number and maybe go makeup shopping together. I'm also a foreigner and I'd love a bestie, because them boys make me feel like their masculinity will be shattered if they came with me for such errands."
"Oh no! That's mean!" You pouted cutely. "I'll kick their asses."
"Girl! Kun would be really ready for you to do that. He looks all tough and daddy material, but I bet you he's into some spanking."
You laughed loudly, hiding your mouth with your hand, holding on to Ten's shoulder. You looked from him to Kun who looked like he was dying to know how Ten made you laugh like that and what you were talking about.
From where the guys stood…
"Fuck! She's beautiful. Her smile feels like I just got stabbed." Kun flopped on the stool almost drooling.
"Gege, we're here to have fun. You can't fall for a girl in a place like this." Yangyang commented.
"Shut up. Look at her, I'm falling in love for real. I need her."
"Ten is coming back."
"Well, she's truly adorable. Her skin is perfect and she's got a sense of humour. I like ___ too, Kun."
"___? Is her name?” Kun contemplated. “Give me her number." He got his phone out of his blazer.
"I will, but try talking to her first." Ten suggested. "I think it's not difficult to befriend her."
"She's heading to the toilets. How about you follow her?" Suggested Hendery.
"That's just creepy." Was Xiaojun’s opinion.
"I have no other chance." Kun removed the excess of moisture off his mouth with the back of his hand placing his glass on the bar. "Wish me luck." He jumped out of his stool heading right where you headed.
After a much needed pee, you fixed your dress pushing the door to exit the bathroom hitting no other than Ten's friend Kun.
"Oh sorry." You smiled. "The mens restroom is there." You pointed heading out.
"Hi, ahm- sorry. Can I talk to you for a moment?" Kun fidgetted.
"Ah… sure."
"Look, I've been watching you the whole night and I'm going crazy-"
"Oooh that way." You cut him off.
"Well yes… that way."
"Listen." You frowned. "No matter how much you tell me how beautiful I am, I'm not sleeping with you, because simply I don't sleep with strangers especially if I meet in a place like this, so you're wasting your time."
"My intentions are really not bad." He tried again.
"I'm really sorry, but I can't."
It looked like you were really killing any hope for him, but in reality you had Ten's phone number, and the chances to meet Kun again were high. It broke your heart nonetheless, thinking of stepping on your principles. He was handsome, so so so handsome, beyond description. His features kind, cute and pretty. His lips pouty and crimson looking. His eyes big with beautiful with long lashes that decorated his porcelain looking skin, highlighted with the most impressive eyebrows. He sighed, running his fingers frustratingly through his fringe giving you a bigger view of them thick eyebrows that brought all the previous features to life. You wanted to stay and talk to him. You really wanted as you felt your heart banging uncontrollably. This man turned on every single button in your body, even buttons you didn’t know you had. The need to cup his beautiful cheeks as he looked at his feet almost reading how he tried to improvise something to say.
"Bye, Kun." You waved aiming to leave.
"My name never sounded so good." He exhaled.
"Try to work on your pick up lines. They're really not credible." You teased making him blush.
You left him there to assimilate that you were really gone. You headed out waving at Ten who blew you a kiss and off you went, finally breathing the fresh air of that short summer night. It was still not even dark which was what you hoped for to arrive home when it wasn’t pitch black. You looked for your car keys finding your phone buzzing.

Ten: Girl, what have you done to Kunnie? He's here about to cry. If I may say so myself, I've never seen him like this [10:47 PM]
You laughed, hiding your mouth with your hand, finding it extremely cute. You were about to reply but got startled by two men, one at your right and the other at your left right behind you.
"That's some flashy dress." You looked behind you wondering what was that about. "A foreigner? What are you doing all alone?"
"Move the fuck away from me." You held your purse at your chest while your hand looked for your car keys.
"Or what?" Challenged one of them.
"Or your face will meet my fist, fucker." Kun replied for you.
"She's all yours man, we're not interested in imported cows."
Kun was about to punch him but you pressed on his chest to stop him. "Please no."
They took it as a chance to run away. You breathed out, still holding on to his chest for support.
"Are you alright? I'm sorry you had to go through something like that."
"They aren't wrong. I'm an imported cow." You took your hand back.
"Please don't say that." Kun grabbed your wrist. "You're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life. I just can't even begin to describe what you did to me."
"So you have a fetish for plus size girls. I've heard of it. That's about it, because you know nothing about me to feel anything else." You pulled your hand out of his hold aggressively. "Thanks for your help." You finally fetched the car keys.
"Let me walk you to your car."
"No." You smiled. "Please don't make this more awkward."
You left him standing again walking away. Kun rubbed the back of his neck trying to think what to do. He watched you cross the road and stop at a small car. You locked eyes with him smiling, shaking your head in disbelief. He truly was cute. Cute, handsome, sexy and fit. You remembered how sturdy his chest felt against your hand. You smiled to yourself entering the car, sighing, thinking that today was a good day. You got the emperor of China himself thinking you're pretty.
What an achievement…
You were about to put your carseat on when you saw the door of the passenger’s seat open, Kun entering and closing it back. You watched him in silence as he leaned on his knees covering his face.
"I just can't let you go. Please let me talk to you for a bit."
"This is really not ok. You're crossing the line and it's becoming uncomfortable."
"I just want to get to know you. Give me a chance and if you don't like me, I'll let it go."
"So what is it?" You crossed your arms over your chest. "You want my foreigner lips on your Chinese dick? Is that it?"
Kun’s eyes widened in surprise and almost in horror, as if you've hurt his feelings with that language.
"I'm sorry." He ran his hands over his face. "I didn't know I gave that image." He aimed to open the door but you held his forearm to stop him.
"Alright." You agreed. "Come on, unzip your pants and let's see that bad boy of yours and what I can do." You licked your lips. "Kinda want to see how my lipstick that your friend liked so much would look on your dick." You pointed, lowering your head.
Kun was taken aback. Was he dreaming? What were you doing right now?
"W-what?" He stuttered.

IT WAS SNOWING, and he wasn’t cold.
He never felt cold. With a simple thought, he could deactivate any stimulus he didn’t wish to experience. Neurological impulses like pain, something he had no interest in experiencing, were shut down in the blink of an eye. Cold was cold. It didn’t bother him. It would never bother him unless he allowed it to.
This, he knew, set him apart from the people around him. The very same people that walked past him without sparing him a glance or a wave or a greeting. He found it slightly amusing, interesting, and paradoxical that humans felt more automated than himself. For a race that had evolved over millennia, they kept finding new ways to regress.
As he absorbed this thought, he tilted his head upward and felt the gentle touch of snow fall upon his face. He blinked and saw a snowflake fall on the tip of his nose. Even though there was no cold, it gently grazed his skin. He closed his eyes, activated the stimuli in his brain’s insula, and immediately felt a chilly sensation upon his face as the snowflake began to melt.
For a brief second, he shivered. Then, with a thought, he shut down the cold.
Cold was cold. It didn’t bother him.
Not unless he allowed it to.
BEHOLD MODEL #DS281097.
It’s, as they say, fresh off the box. As a newer model, recently manufactured, with little work and life experience, these are all the things MODEL #DS281097 lacks: a name, an identity, a purpose, and a job.
It’s the future. Man’s vision come to life. A dream fulfilled. Yet MODEL #DS281097 doesn’t care about that. It simply wants to fulfill its duties. It seeks purpose. It seeks to live.
[12:27 AM] “Are you going to sleep?” You ask Kun as you rub his back. He’s been studying for an exam that he had tomorrow. You had seen him at that desk with his textbook since you had woken up that morning. His head falls slightly, but soon comes back up and he shakes his head.
“Sleep is for the weak,” he murmurs and his head falls back down again which causes you to laugh. You quickly close his textbook and try to make him back into bed without waking him up.
Premise : While you could practically have anyone in the world, there was only one man you could ever see. When would your strict assistant of many years finally see you as a woman, instead of his boss?
You sipped at your beverage from the wine glass coiffed between your fingers, simmering within your own in the most uneventful area of the large hall, the corner by the food. You quietly observed the premise of the room as different business owners, CEOs, assistants, and everything in between were walking around, discussing business matters, propositions: better known to you as the same old crap.
You exhaled as you swirled your drink, recapping all of your encounters from your rounds. You, as the only daughter of the man with one of the most successful, expansive corporations around the world, you had no choice but to take over the fame and fortune of your father some day. And what better way to integrate your daughter into your multi-billion dollar corporation than to drag her around to these boring, ass-kissing business gatherings?
The only thing you appreciated about these experiences were the exquisite dining services. You made a mental note to give the service your best regards later.
“Miss?”
You slowly, but gracefully redirected your attention towards a man who stood neatly in front of you, surely another money hungry bachelor that wanted a handful of your father’s fortune no doubt. A scowl threatened to reveal itself along your brow line, but you composed yourself to impose the image that your father wanted you to portray.
“How could I help you, Sir?” You asked delicately, expecting the usual spiel about how beautiful you were, and how he would like to court you as soon as possible. You would never buy it, and honestly, your father didn’t blame you in the slightest, but he did wish for you to wed a wealthy businessman someday. A man who could benefit the survival of his long-built empire.
You detested this wish, but you couldn’t completely disobey him either.
“I believe you are the daughter of Mr. L/N?”
You suppressed the urge to roll your eyes by biting your inner cheek, instead shooting him a sugary smile instead.
“That would be correct, Sir.”
“Oh, that’s fantastic! I was actually-”
“Excuse me.”
You and your companion were abruptly interrupted by a familiar voice, an involuntary smile bit at your plumped, red lips.
“Ah, hello Mr. Qian.” You greeted, silently speaking to him through your eyes.
“I’m very sorry, Sir, but I have orders to bring Ms. L/N elsewhere for the time being. What is your business with her?” You couldn’t help the smirk lining your lips as you saw the man confronting you immediately crumbling underneath your assistant’s intense gaze.
Anyone would be intimidated by thee Qian Kun if he wasn’t happy with them.
Anyone.
“Ah, I was just giving her my best regards! See you soon, Ms. L/N.” Before you or Kun could even utter a peep, the man was alright out of your sight, causing your shoulders to slump with relaxation.
“Thanks for saving me, Kunnie!” You squealed quietly, completely out of character of yourself... for those who weren’t Kun.
To put it into perspective, Kun had been your butler since the both of you were in your pre-teens. Kun’s father was your father’s butler of many years, helping him from just being a successful businessman to a global tycoon.
You didn’t like calling Kun your butler, though, so he was officially listed as your assistant in all his records. While Kun was quite icy and brisk with you earlier in your partnership, he soon warmed up to you as you persistently bothered him. You two had a warm relationship, but at times, you wanted more.
Rich, gorgeous men were just not your type, especially since everyone was after your soon-to-be inherited fortune.
No.
The warm, sweet Kun was exactly your type; it had been particularly difficult withholding these sappy feelings whenever you were around the man.
Unfortunately, you really had no chance with him.
As you flirted and hinted at any romantic feelings between the two of you, he always swiftly diverted the topic to something else. It had been hard for you, but you always kept up your perfect exterior regardless.
Besides, no child of your father would ever be caught slipping publicly, or privately.
“It’s simply my job, Ms. L/N.”
Dragged back to your current reality, you were unfortunately met with the professional Kun, the man who was nothing but business.
You pouted, a small whine escaping your lips.
“How many times do I have to tell you, Kun Kun? You should call me Y/N.”
He shot you a wary smile, already telling you your answer.
“That simply wouldn’t do, Ms. L/N.”
You groaned in disapproval, but you didn't’t further your argument. It was a lost cause whenever Kun was dead set on something.
~~~
“We are here, Ms. L/N.”
You quickly opened the car door before your assistant could come and open it for you. The said man gave you a dirty glare, still reaching a hand out for you to take. You decided to humor him by gently grabbing the pads of his fingers, sending a flirty wink his way.
He only humored you by giving you the whites of his eyes.
“Love you too, Kun.”
“Nothing personal, Ms. L/N. I will be going home now.”
You felt your heart sink to the depths of your stomach as you watched Kun swiftly round the expensive vehicle, departing from you as soon as he humanly could. Your teeth clenched down on your inner cheek, your hands balling up.
You couldn’t do this anymore.
“Kun!”
Kun froze as he opened the driver’s door, directing his attention to you. You toyed nervously at the hem of your expensive gown, starting to regret you actions as you observed how handsome Kun looked. His glasses sat nicely on the bridge of his nose, his tie slightly loosened from his activities throughout the day, the button of his navy blue jacket already undone, giving him a sexy, raw, loosened version of him that simply drove you insane.
“Yes, Ms. L/N?”
You gulped down the lump growing in your throat, actively forcing down the anxiety plaguing your mind and heart.
“Could you join me at my place for a little? I’ve been getting a little lonely these days.”
Kun silently examined you, obviously startled by your request. You saw him sigh a little, looking down at his expensive watch before looking back at you. Hurt twinged your heart from his evident need to depart.
“You know what, it’s-”
“No, I’ll stay with you, Ms. L/N.”
Your breath hitched as he locked his car, passing by you with a little smirk as he walked toward your modern accommodations with his hands tucked in his dress pants. You stared his at his firm back, wondering why you even did this to begin with. All you knew was for now was that your feelings for him were growing more clear each day.
“So, what did you have in mind, Ms. L/N?”
You hummed as you prepared the room that you and Kun were in, starting to realize that this was the first time that you had let a man into your residence late at night, other than your father of course. While you were officially a grown woman, you were still a late bloomer at heart, something that you didn’t necessarily know how to feel about at times.
“He’s just Kun, Y/N. Stop freaking out.”
“What was that?”
You flushed, not realizing that you spoke aloud. You cursed yourself out for initiating this whole situation to begin with.
“Nothing! A-Anyways, let’s drink some wine and talk for a little?”
Kun rested his chin on the back of his hand, giving you a look that you couldn’t read.
“Then I couldn’t drive home.”
“You could stay over then! There are plenty of extra rooms here.” You offered with a sweet smile, oblivious to the dangerous smirk that grew on Kun’s lips.
“Don’t be so loose, Ms. L/N. You simply can’t just offer to let men stay over at your house, even if you do have an uncountable number of rooms.”
You reeled at his implications with a gasp.
“Kun, don’t be weird! You’re my assistant, my father trusted you, so I trust you.”
Kun’s smirk grew soft, a twinkle lighting his brown irises in the dim setting.
“Of course, Ms. L/N. Let’s have some of that wine you you spoke of.”
You two did just that, drinking and comfortably chatting from the sunset to the emergence of the night’s stars, breaking down certain barriers that you never thought could happen.
“Hmm, Kun, could you answer something I have been wondering for awhile?”
He chuckled, that beautiful beaming smile that you had grown so fond of over these years lit up his features for the millionth time this evening.
“I have been this whole time, Ms. L/N.”
You, on the other hand, were not so relaxed as you silently plucked up the courage to do something that you would have never done while sober.
“Are you seeing someone? Romantically, I mean. Like earlier, it seemed like you were in a rush to see someone.”
The smile slipped off of his face as fast as the palms of your hands became sweaty. You gave him an awkward, lop-sided smile, but you were only met with a serious look in return.
“Would it matter if I was seeing someone right now?” He said cooly, stealing all of the warmth in the air around you two, suddenly replaced by a chilling atmosphere. Your face screwed with perplexed guilt, scrambling for your response.
“N-No, I-I was only curious! Sorry for bringing it up, Kun.” You apologized with the aura of a kicked puppy as you stared down at your reflection within the red wine you held.
“Then let me turn the question onto you, Ms. L/N. Are you seeing someone at this current time?” He muttered eloquently, leaving you speechless. You looked at him past your wisps of deranged hair.
“I believe you already know the answer to that, Kun.”
“And why’s that?” He questioned mercilessly, sensually leaning back onto the arm of the sofa you two sat on. You didn’t know why his whole demeanor changed, but you were intimidated like the very first time you met him, but for a whole different reason.
“I can’t say I’m into gold diggers if I’m going to be honest. Besides, you see me every day, I think you would have met any potential suitors by now.”
“I can’t say I blame you, but I was under the impression that you were already infatuated by someone?”
Your eyebrows pinched together in pure confusion as you digested his words. Did he already know you were into him?
“It’s just I’ve noticed that you have been acting differently lately. Am I reading too deep into it?”
While his words were innocent, his tone was definitely not.
You couldn't tell if Kun was fully aware, and intentionally lowering his tone to a growling octave, or if he was under the alcohol’s intoxicating submission. All you knew was that his voice was doing things to you, sending you into a tingling frenzy emotionally, mentally, and most certainly physically.
Trying to wade through your unhinged mind, you knew you were going to spill something in a matter of seconds, whether that be your wine or your feelings, you didn’t know.
“Well, I guess I have noticed someone recently.” You started, hesitant of your words even in your drunken state. Kun nodded along with you, effectively urging you to say more.
“Would you judge me if I told you who it was?”
“Not at all, Ms. L/N.”
You sucked in air through your teeth, giving a weak attempt at calming your racing heart. The flush at the tips of your cheeks were effectively masked by the fact that you were under the influence of alcohol, thankfully.
“I-I like you, Kun.”
The room you were in stilled in a pregnant pause, allowing you to bask in the aftermath of your confession. You set down your wine glass as you were scared that rejection would rip your heart apart in a matter of milliseconds. You wordlessly watched his features remain stone cold, his whole being exemplifying a living statue.
You were taken aback as Kun gently set his empty wine glass on the glass coffee table beside you, mimicking your prior motions, not removing his eyes from your figure for even a second. Your throat became plugged up as you saw Kun slowly remove the navy dress jacket he wore, quickly rolling up his white long sleeves to his elbows, exposing his toned forearms.
Really a sight to behold.
“I’m glad to hear that, Ms. L/N.” He stated calmly, giving your poor spine whiplash at the serenity of his state. Your eyes widened to their capacity as Kun leaned forward onto his hands, crawling to your side of the couch. The nature of his movements reminded you of a predator encroaching on its prey before pouncing.
He stalked his way to your stiffened posture before ending up face to face with you, his hands planted by the sides of your curled up legs.
You slunk back, admitting defeat in this hunter and hunted game.
“But I guess it’s unfortunate that I’m just a measly assistant, then.”
Your jaw dropped with anticipation, shock overloading your inexperienced system. You quivered as you felt his large hand graze your calf like he was worshipping a fragile object. The pad of his middle finger drawled up the sensitive skin as if he wanted to absorb every part of you.
“I bet you’re curious as to why I refuse to call you by your first name.”
Confusion overshadowed your excitement for a brief second as you tilted your head like the clueless little puppy you were.
“I am curious.” You said simply, eager to feed your curiosity.
“It’s because I made a certain promise with myself...”
The hand that cradled your hip traveled to the very tip of your chin, Kun tilted your head to parallel his face to yours. His beautifully-proportioned features looked down at you with hooded eyes, eating you up like you were his last meal. You didn’t dare mutter a word under his searing leer.
“That promise being that I could only call you Y/N,”
Your lips parted with shock as you registered the very first time that Kun had ever said your first name to you, a prickling sensation crashing through your extremities. You certainly didn’t imagine this being the scenario it would happen in.
Kun inched his way towards your face at a lagged pace, leaving only a couple of centimeters to spare before pausing. For the nth time tonight, your breath was swept away with the wind leaving you in an asthmatic state. His lips graced over yours, leaving goosebumps rippling over your skin.
Your eyes fluttered closed as your jaw jutted out with need. You were ready to hear whatever he had to say next, the fatal words that would leave you spell-bound
