a/n. it's 1:27 am (puku puku pow pow) but anyway i wrote this rly randomly and i didn't know who to make the fic abt for a while but i thought daehwi kinda fit :( so first ab6ix fic 🥹
“You know…” You rolled over onto your back, staring up at the dark ceiling of the bedroom, your thoughts racing through your head as sleep continued to evade you.
“What?” Daehwi’s question came with a long sigh. He was still lying with his back facing you, having to deal with your insomnia disrupting his sleep as well. Not that he minded too much. He didn’t have anything planned for tomorrow, and having you back in his arms this morning after weeks of absence wasn’t quite enough for him to feel sufficiently caught up with you.
“Just… Have you ever thought about how scary the ocean is?” You completed your original thought with a glance over at his pyjama-ed figure. Your question makes him roll over to face you, and you can just make out his facial features with the limited lighting from nightlight in the room. But instead of answering your questions, he just smiled and let a half-hearted fond chuckle leave his lips.
“I missed your randomness.” He murmured. That’s definitely not the only thing he missed.
Your smile, your laugh, your little inflections in your voice when you started talking about something you were really passionate about; all these things he could capture over video call to an extent, but it was never the same as the real deal. Nothing could ever compare to being face-to-face with you, indulging in your random conversation topics that never failed to make Daehwi ponder things he had never even considered before. Like how old possessions are souvenirs from different times in your life, or whether or not cereal could be counted as a soup.
Like most people, he never realized how much he adored every part of you until you were thousands of miles away from him. As soon as he was back in the same room as you, he was practically mesmerised by everything about you, falling in love with the exact same things that had him smitten three years ago. He barely even took his eyes off of you, too drunk on your presence to be able to even think clearly.
The excitement from getting back had calmed down by the time you both were getting ready for bed, giggling through your nightly routine and stealing kisses from each other every chance you got like lovesick teenagers. But after you were tucked under the covers together, you had sworn to actually go to sleep, and promised to leave the leftover rush of romance for tomorrow… That was 20 minutes ago.
“You didn’t answer my question.” You pointed out. Daehwi shuffled closer to you until he was easily able to wrap an arm around your waist.
He hummed in thought, “I think I have…? But I try not to spend too much of my time fearing something that isn’t going to harm me in the current moment.” He reasoned.
“I knew you’d have a practical response to that.” You rolled your eyes fondly and snuggled closer to his chest.
“Why did this even come up?” He asked curiously.
“On my drive to the airport to pick you up there was this really big billboard sign with the ocean on it. And it just looked so… enormous, you know?” Daehwi nodded along with your thought process, always listening intently to whatever you had to say no matter how forgotten it would be in a few hours.
“And then I thought about how small I was in comparison… Oceans are just so massive, and they could just so easily swallow me and you and everyone on this entire planet in an instant. I mean, scientists have only explored 5% of our oceans. Who knows what’s down there.”
“You are minuscule in comparison to it, true, but you mean a whole lot more to me than the ocean. And I’d like to think our love is like that… so big it could swallow us in an instant.” Daehwi said with a soft smile, his words dreamy and his body on the verge of sleep as he uttered them. His lips barely brushed the side of your cheek as he spoke, and you sucked in a breath. It was almost impossible to resist moving your head to find his lips and kiss him until you were both breathless.
Oh, how in love you were with this man…

There was a lot that you enjoyed in life. The taste of ice-cream on a summer’s day. Rain falling on the roof in a soothing rhythm. Cats and all their mystical ways.
And seeing your boyfriend waiting for you.
Grinning, you waved when you caught Daehwi’s eye, breaking out into a faster gait so you could reach him quickly. He caught you effortlessly despite his somewhat bashful laugh. “Y/N!”
“What? I missed you,” you countered, looking at him and puckering up your lips. Daehwi ran a hand through his hair awkwardly before leaning down to kiss you. What was clearly meant to be a peck turned deeper with your efforts. You had worked so hard in class today that you felt your energy was only coming back to you through his lips. Finally, you stepped back and admired your handiwork.
“You need to stop doing that, we’re in public,” he chided and you shook your head animatedly.
“Why should I? I love kissing you.”
“And I do too but… I like it in private more than out here for everyone to see.”
Daehwi led you back to his car, unlocking the door for you to get in and climbed into the driver’s seat. As soon as his door was shut, you leaned over and captured his lips in a breathtaking kiss.
When he managed to catch his breath again, Daehwi shot you an incredulous look. “What are you doing?!”
“I thought you liked kissing me in private more,” you teased, smirking as you put on your seatbelt. “There’s no one here who can see us.”
Daehwi shook his head with a chuckle. “One day, you’ll be the death of me.”
It wasn’t always playful. More often than not, as your relationship with Daehwi progressed, he stopped waiting for you as much as he had in the beginning.
“I got tired of waiting,” he proclaimed one time.
“It’s raining; I don’t want to catch a cold. You were alright taking the bus, right?”
“I wouldn’t have made it there in time.”
It made you disgruntled and mourn the loss of your boyfriend’s previous chivalry.
“Do you think he’s not that into me anymore?” you asked Woojin in class one morning and your mutual friend glanced at you and frowned.
“Daehwi? He idolises you!”
“He doesn’t prioritise me anymore,” you admitted with a pout. “It’s silly, but I liked when he’d surprise me by turning up and wait for me after class.”
Woojin grinned. “But it’s not a surprise if you expect it.”
“Yes but…”
“Have you told him this?”
You shook your head. “Not yet.”
“Maybe you should. I’m sure there’s a good reason for why Daehwi isn’t meeting up with you on campus anymore.”
Later that week, you decided to put Woojin’s advice into action, no longer able to take it. You rolled over on your bed to glance over at Daehwi sitting writing a song over on your desk. “Hwi.”
“Mm?”
“Can we talk?”
“Five minutes, Y/N,” he requested hastily, still scribbling in his book.
“No, now,” you confirmed and Daehwi groaned before looking at you pointedly.
His expression eased when he noted yours. “Are you okay?”
“No. Something’s bothering me. Why don’t you pick me up anymore? Did I kiss you one too many times in the car and put you off of it?”
“What? No. I like kissing you.”
“Then how come-”
“I was giving you the out,” Daehwi announced and you frowned.
“An out?”
“I overheard you saying you don’t like clingy guys, and well, I thought that maybe me taking the time to pick you up after your classes ended each day was getting to be a bit too much for you.”
You blinked. “I said that?”
“To Sori,” he commented and you gasped noisily.
“Oh my God, Daehwi! I was agreeing with her! She was dealing with someone really overbearing! So I was just supporting her decision to leave him! I don’t see you as clingy at all!”
“Why do you say something you don’t dislike?”
“For support!”
“Girls are weird,” he breathed and you laughed.
“So are boys.”
Daehwi grinned, moving over on to the bed and pulled you in for a hug. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow.”
“You promise?”
“How could I leave you to miss my kisses after class finishes?”

god, you dread parties. family gatherings, business gatherings, random ceo’s gatherings. but they can’t get anymore worse than the king of it all — the christmas party.
socialising is one thing, but it’s ten times more grim that three quarters of the time you find yourself getting interrogated by the nosy wives or end up stuck in between a conversation about which medical school so and so wants to go to. you could be less than bothered. but what’s your luck? no matter how many times you practically beg your mother to let you stay home just this one year, she’s shoving a dress in your face and doing up your hair. wonderful.
upon arriving at the two-storey mansion, you get reminded to meet your parents back at the front gate by midnight, and as usual you nod your head carelessly, just wanting to disappear from the crowd and find a quiet, fairly empty spot.
families were mainly gathered on the first floor, and they didn’t mention anything about the second floor being out of bounds, so you take the chance to venture out by yourself. you find a balcony overlooking the city skyline, almost immediately padding towards it. peace and quiet — what you wanted the most.
but as soon as you step out to the fairly large space, you are met with someone else tucked away in the corner. he’s dressed in a black turtleneck with a grey checkered coat and black tailored pants, light brown hair styled neatly and a thin, dainty chain hanging around his neck.
a small, quiet oh escapes your lips, causing the said person to turn around, a little taken aback. “oh, i’m sorry, i didn’t know you were in here– i’ll leave,” you bow your head slightly, about to turn on your heel, but he stops you.
“no, it’s okay, you can stay,” he gives you a warm smile when you turn back to look at him. “i’m alone, anyway. and you don’t look like you’re going to ask me about my future plans or how my studies are going now.”
you chuckle, heading towards the railing and standing beside him. “daehwi,” he introduces himself. “you?”
“y/n,” you tell him politely. “you’re one of those people who just, avoid interaction with adults at all costs?”
daehwi grins. “yeah. you’re with your parents?” he asks, and you nod, asking him the same thing. “oh, this place is my house. my mum– she threw this party, or whatever.”
“not entertaining the guests? or are you just hiding from being the host’s child?” you crack up, earning an amused laugh from him. he admits to the latter, explaining that he’s not one to be a social butterfly as well, and there aren’t a lot of young adults (who are not education-minded) at the party downstairs.
you were satisfied with the new friend you made, as you spend the remaining time at the party talking and getting to know each other. at the last ten minutes before the clock struck twelve, the both of you stand in silence, pulling coats closer to bodies and relishing the cold, winter breeze that tickles your cheeks.
“glad i went up here,” you tell him quietly, “you should come to the new year’s party at my place.” daehwi looks at you, cocking his head to one side. “my house might not be two storeys high but i do have good hiding spots when the adults do nothing but discuss politics.”
he snorts. “you’re gonna be there for sure?”
“‘course. it’s my house, anyway,” you reassure him. “could i um, maybe get your number or something? we could keep in touch.”
daehwi takes your phone in your hand, pressing in his number and saving it into your contacts. then he gives you a missed call, before shooting a small smile at you.
“i’ll see you soon, then?” he purses his lips together.
the ends of your mouth reach the tips of your ears. “really soon.”

Jisung knew that you were cuddly but he was surprised how clingy you were. Not in a bad way but in a cute way. Wherever he went you always wanted to come with him. Jisung actually thought it was adorable and wanted to spend as much time with you as you wanted to spend with him. Jinyoung always got shy whenever you held his hand around the other members, but after a while he stopped feeling nervous about it. He will always make sure that you know you are his whole world. Although happy and bubbly, this child gets hurt easily so please protect him and love him. :)

Swatting away Woong’s hand from his stash, Daehwi gave his friend a firm nod.
“Really? All of it?” Woojin peered into the bag that Daehwi had placed down on the countertop, shaking his head softly. “Did you buy an entire convenience store’s worth of chocolates and candy?”
“He got it on clearance,” Youngmin mentioned and sat down on the couch in their dorm. “Something about being the best boyfriend ever.”
Donghyun laughed. “This is Valentine’s stuff. Didn’t you tell Y/N you weren’t buying into a holiday that was commercially driven by capitalism?”
“I’m being economical and thoughtful,” Daehwi proudly announced after counting out his goods. Turning to his friends, he gave them a smug look. “I saved a lot of money buying all this since it’s now two weeks after Valentine’s Day. And when I start planting these all around Y/N’s dorm room, she’s going to exclaim that I’m the most amazing boyfriend ever. You best start taking notes of my success!”
“Are you sure you really need all of it?” Woong repeated, reaching in for one candy package. “This is too much for Y/N to eat!”
Giving Woong a reproachful stare, Daehwi began to concoct his plan of attack.
At first, you were relieved to find a delicious snack on your bed after a double psychology lecture waiting for you. Smiling at the Be Mine logo imprinted on the small chocolate pieces, you left your roommate a thank you note and then went off to the library to study.
However, candy kept turning up everywhere in your room.
“It’s not from me, Y/N,” Keely mentioned when you showed her another packet of candy on your desk. “I didn’t buy any of the remaining Valentine’s candy at the store.”
“Wait, this is from then?”
Nodding, Keely took the packet from your hand. “Did you not read the print on this? It says Be Mine, Y/N.”
“I just thought it was the brand,” you murmured, your mind clicking onto who it would be. You groaned loudly. “But I know who it is leaving these now.”
Marching over to the music department, you found the group within a practice studio, opening the door and storming inside.
“Oh look, it’s Y/N!” Donghyun enthused, lifting his hand up in greeting, and you merely grunted in response, your gaze stuck on your boyfriend before you.
Daehwi recovered from his initial startle and smiled brightly. “Y/N! Weren’t we meeting at four today?”
Spying a bag with similar wrappers in it that you had back at home, you folded your arms across your chest. “Apparently there’s a candy monster on the loose.”
“Oh, is there?” Daehwi asked with an evidently pleased tone, not even trying to suppress his smile. “You must be very happy then to be showered by all his kind gifts.”
“Actually, I’m not.”
“Wait, you’re not?!” Daehwi squeaked whilst Youngmin let out a snort.
“I told you it would have been better to share them around,” Woong added on and your boyfriend waved his friends off rapidly.
“I was being thoughtful! You love chocolate!”
“I’ve eaten so much my skin is close to breaking out! Further, I’m trying to get into shape. There’s no point to me going to the gym and then coming home to eat the candy you’re leaving! It’s too much temptation for my sweet tooth and you know I have no self-control over chocolate! How is this thoughtful at all?!”
“I was giving you affection without it falling on Valentine’s!”
“With Valentine’s chocolate? I thought you said that holiday is all about consumerism?!”
“It is!”
“So is buying it when it’s on half price.”
“It was seventy-five percent off,” Woojin interjected and Daehwi shot the amused man a glare.
“I was just trying to make you feel special,” Daehwi admitted and you softened, smiling at him as you slipped your arms around his waist. His cheeks flushed, he wasn’t exactly the most forthcoming about showing affection in front of his friends.
“You already do that enough. You didn’t need to go out and buy all that to make me feel lucky enough to be your girlfriend.”
“Take notes, fellas,” Donghyun told the others. You frowned and Daehwi rolled his eyes. “This is how not to do things.”
“Should have just bought something on Valentine’s, Daehwi.”
You shook your head. “Let’s just show our affection in other ways.”
“Right now?”
“Actually, I need to go to the gym. I ate today’s chocolate to give me fuel to come over here. Just, no more chocolate, please. I’m going to have a chocolate-free week from tomorrow onwards.”
Woong raised a hand, and you glanced over at him as he smiled hesitantly. “So uh, does this mean we can eat it now?”
[9:42pm] a movie marathon date with daehwi — limbs tangled beneath one large blanket, mugs of hot chocolate in hand, and the faint sound of cars driving down the bustling seoul city being heard as you both get more and more immersed in whatever you're watching.
