hui’s eyes lit up at the sight of the soft sweet cakes on the plate. it’s a simple dish, but hui would never turn down an opportunity for sweets ( and meat buns ). cheeks dashed in a hint of rosy hue as he smiled, so wide his eyes almost disappear into upturned crescents, he stepped forth immediately to accept with both hands.

❝ thank you so much, lady bae, ❞ hui said, melody lacing his soft words, as if he was lightly singing to an unknown tune. joy was evident in his body language, if not his expression, as he held it close to him. if it was a toy, or a book, he would even have cradled it in his arms. but cakes are different, and they don’t deserve rough treatment like he would with inedible items.  ❝ ah, how about you, lady bae? have you tried the cakes? ❞

“ don’t you believe there’s someone for everyone?”

It was the nth time that day when someone had asked him the same question. Looking up at his brother, he supposed it was an appropriate enough inquiry to ask him. It beats the question of people wondering if when he was next to step up and joined the matrimony world. 

“I think there is.” He says calmly,  looking down at her as he contemplates his answer. Unlike the first time, he was asked that night, seeing the bride react someone in disdain towards his brother made him a bit strange. There was talk, like always, concerning how she did not want to be the bride. Jinha felt rather insulted on behalf of his twin. “Although one must truly be lucky to actually find that person. What do you think?”

“ will she come to love him, do you think?”

he arched a brow, turning to look at the lady beside her. he recognized her easily - the daughter of vice supreme commander, a military his family has known for a while. how close their fathers worked together was a mystery of its own, but it hardly mattered to dongho. their generations was their memory, and the next generation would make their own history.

“ what do you mean, lady sunjung? ” his words were straight to the point, not beautifully articulated even if he tried a formal tone. it would be different if it’s his sister answering the question, or if it’s hui, or anyone else, really. but what she suggested invoked a bit of defensiveness, and pride. certainly, the princess was to be a respected figure, but he knew jinil. brows furrowed before he shook his head, cleared his mind.

“ of course! ” he added, “ lord jinil has always been a very amiable person! i’m sure the princess would come to like him very quickly.”

the question pulls at his heart strings and he can feel his smile wavering for a second. his eyes moved across the room, not taking more than a heartbeat to land on his sisters frame. he parts his lips to answer the question, closing them when no words seem to come out. it was a personal issue of his: love.

“i hope so.“ hyojin finally answers, tearing his eyes away from his elder sister and looking at sunjung. his smile has dulled, only by a tad, only those closest to him would notice it, but he speaks again “don’t we all deserve a little love, even if it takes a while?“ maybe he’s getting deep into this. maybe the prince shouldn’t have even opened his mouth in the first place. so many reason he could had stopped at his first answer, but it was a topic he doesn’t discuss, love wasn’t something he knew how to talk about.
