#31: That's Not a Feeling by Dan Josefson
Touching and funny and ruthlessly mocking of new age adults and their strategies for coping with acting-out teens and brilliantly written. It's got a slow pace but not so slow that you lose interest. I picked this one up at random and I genuinely liked it. It's odd and dark and weird. All the things I love.
Who knows what happens to any of us...Time moves in one direction, and each time you fuck up, you've fucked up forever.

Dan Josefson, That's Not A Feeling
You simply can’t seem to come to terms with life’s ordinary happiness. Or even for that matter with life’s ordinary unhappiness. No, you all seem to be after a rather extraordinary unhappiness. It’s heroic really, if something pointless and infantile can be called heroic. But most things called heroic are pointless and infantile.

Ellie left, and she promised herself that she would stop thinking of things as being either good or bad. She would only think of what would carry her into a world cheaper and more free, toward a life that would burn like paper.
