“How can I be substantial if I do not cast a shadow? I must have a dark side also if I am to be whole.” - Carl Jung
DECAY
Jay suffers with a curse named Decay. Their father force them to undergo a ritual he believe it was going to expurge their magic but it actually put a monster inside them, almost killing Jay. The curse allows their magic to be stronger and boost their attacks, being magical or physical, and while the curse is awaken, Jay can’t feel pain but of course, everything comes with a price, the more they uses it the more the curse will possess their mind and body until the moment it finally dominates them and Jay will be gone forever. While it’s awaken, the sclera start to become black and if it became completely black, it means that the curse dominated them.
Jay can force-wake the curse using a small dosage of Essence of Insanity modified with Acromantula’s ashes. The taste is awful, but it works immediately. Without the potion, the Decay awakes if Jay gets severely hurt. The only way to calm the curse, is singing a song that Jacob made for them but when Jay got almost fulled possessed, the only one who could get them back to normal was Orion Amari.
After Rowan’s death, Jay performs an acceptance ritual with Jacob’s help to finally accept the Decay and try to bond with it but everything just got worse. When they sleeps, the Decay try to possess them violently so they stopped sleeping and Jay became paranoid, which makes them break up with Orion in order to protect him so he wouldn’t be an easy target to R or even the Decay. Jay got really weak, they couldn’t sleep, nor eat, all they could do was training, studying and work on the next Vault. After a “not-so-friendly” conversation with Skye and even Rath, they realize what’s happening so they search for Orion to talk everything out and asks for his forgiveness (of course, after offering him a bottle of an imitation of rum that Madame Rosmerta gave them). After some tears, talking and half-bottle gone, they’re together again and Orion makes them meditate a lot and take some rest, promising them that he would be there to protect them. While meditating with Orion and Jacob as well, on their unconsciousness Jay saw an abyss, an endless darkness and while approaching that darkness starts to shift, taking Jay’s form. Jay tried to touch it and the other repeated like it was a mirror. Once again, Jay try to bond with it, letting it take its time and finally they hug. Since the Decay doesn’t have voice, they talk with each other using symbols and during this conversation they make a deal to share the same body, living in harmony and the Decay will be summoned in battle and now when it’s awaken, the sclera will be completely black with some black marks around the eyes but Jay will be in total control.
The Decay becomes Jay’s guardian, if someone try to invade their mind, they’ll see a monstrous form that will be able to destroy the invader’s mind if it wants but Jay will be able to use it as an illusion, stunning their enemy that will see this monster looking right to his soul.
You can’t deny me, I’ve always been here, I know everything about you…
Remake of an older piece. I liked the theme a lot, and decided to refresh it. Here's the old work: Always Been Here (2015) Trying to mix painterly with flat coloring.

This was the shocking thing; that the slime of the pit seemed to utter cries and voices; that the amorphous dust gesticulated and sinned; that what was dead, and had no shape, should usurp the offices of life. And this again, that that insurgent horror was knit to him closer than a wife, closer than an eye; lay caged in his flesh, where he heard it mutter and felt it struggle to be born; and at every hour of weakness, and in the confidence of slumber, prevailed against him, and deposed him out of life.
Robert Louis Stevenson
