Liar liar, FACE on fire...
Just went through some of the Epstein files… I’m disgusted beyond words. I thought the world was bad before, turns out it’s worse.

Um so I read the most recent chapter and I was pumped cause last chapter Deku seemed to have gotten the upper hand on Lady Nagant but then BOOM!
A backstory chapter showcasing yet another side of hero society, which I rlly love about Horikoshi because you can critic the quirk world he created all you want - Horikoshi knows what they all are, and like the conflict in the manga is literally centered around these flaws. So.
But yeah he does only brush over some issues the same way he brushes over characters, but I haven’t been bored or annoyed with the story yet which usually happens when reading any longer manga. In any case, I did enjoy the stark and obvious parallel between Hawks and Lady Nagant, which was obvious since they were both kids raised and trained by the commission.
I particularly enjoyed how we see the bloodier side of heroes that’s never been shown explicitly until now. What’s intriguing is that her path is the one Hawks has already taken a few steps down, what with working as a double-agent and killing Twice. Funnily enough, if Dabi hadn’t exposed the ugly side of hero society, Hawks may have ended up in the same place Lady Nagant is now.
Not that the whole exposing thing wasn’t an asshole move, but for development both story-wise and character-wise, it’s actually exactly what this world needed. The villains aren’t that far off when they say the world needs to be purged, but in a fresh start sense. Not the, “destroy-everything-so-we-make-a-dystopian-everyone-for-themselves-world-where-heroes-don’t-exist-because-heroes-dumb-and-bad”. Frankly they had the right motivation and ideas, but the wrong delivery, which is a common trope in effective and understandable ‘bad guys’.
In any case, the new exposed outlook on hero society is vital for the people, and our main cast, to grow and change their world for the better. I kinda went off, what I really what to show was the final page of the chapter:
why is no one talking about this? Lady Nagant is threatening Deku with Chisaki Kai, as a hostage. A poor crazed man, with missing arms and no idea what’s going on.
Also the same man who was part of the yakuza, killed Magne, created quirk erasing bullets to start his own version of a purge, shot one of said bullets at our boy Mirio, and most significantly, tortured and abused little Eri.
He’s known to us the readers and to Deku as a Grade A piece of shit. Which is why this is an extreme moral and emotional dilemma. Will he help Chisaki? Should he help Chisaki?
He very well could just let Chisaki die, then he would never do evil and would face ‘punishment‘ for his sins (whatever your opinion on consequences is, personally I believe the most effective punishment is done while the perpetrator is alive). On the other hand, Chisaki is clearly out of it and can’t really harm anyone with his arms and quirk gone.
As simple as a
would be, Deku also claimed just a few seconds earlier that all he wants is to help, so does helping Chisaki count? Would it be hypocritical of him to just let Chisaki die? He isn’t a pirate, he’s a hero still in the process of redefining his morals in this new and exposed world.
As a hero, how does Deku pick who and when to save?
I can’t wait to see what happens next chapter, unless the decision ends up being not as big a deal as I made it out to be, in which case I’d be very disappointed and a bit embarrassed. But no matter, I just want to know what Deku will do next.

He’s standing there in the sun, just watching the world when he speaks an awful truth. “Get used to disappointment sweetheart, you can never go home again.” A sunset’s never looked so blue.
