The Roller Skating Date
When you read that title, I bet you were thinking to yourself “Roller Skating? Like, skating along a sidewalk, arms flailing around like a fish trying to keep yourself from falling over”? No no no...no. That, my friends is Roller Blading. I’m talking about Roller Skating, specifically inside a rink. And let me tell you, it might just be one of the most exciting things you do this summer.
The Date
In a nutshell, think ice skating on wheels. Hopefully there's a rink close to you (mine was pretty far away) because unfortunately, roller skating isn't as popular as its icy cousin. Nevertheless, there are still rinks out there you just gotta be extra vigilant. Luckily for us though, the skates you get aren't roller blades as mentioned above, meaning the wheels aren't in a single straight line. 4 wheels in total with 2 lines of 2 make balancing on these things a lot more easier than you think.
So what do you do once you get your skates on? The whole point of this date idea is to step back in time! Most likely the rink will be glow in the dark, playing some old school hits, and repping a giant disco ball in the middle (at least that's what mine had). Enjoy it! Hold your dates hand, go around the rink and jive to the rhythm. Did I just use the word jive in a sentence? I guess I did. What I’m trying to say is soak up the retro atmosphere. Don't even worry about falling down, because chances are you won't be the only one. Walk off the shame, and stay groovy (peace sign emoji inserted here). But what happens if you want to do more than just go around in circles?
Funk Tastic
What I did with my date is play a modified version of H.O.R.S.E, and called it S.K.A.T.E (cleaver right?). The whole point of SKATE, is to do something wacky, and if your date can't do what you did, they get a letter ‘S’. First one to spell SKATE loses. But what kind of wacky stuff am I talking about? It can be anything really. We were doing goofy dances, crazy moves, sending silly snaps to our friends; I even almost did the splits at one point! But by far my favourite was hide and seek. I counted to 30 (on the side of course) and my date hid amongst the crowd. Whoever got tagged would also get a letter! Mix in some snack breaks in-between games and you’ve got yourself a really unique experience!
Wrap Up
And there you go, the Roller Skate Date. Now, I was not the one to come up with this date idea. Actually, one of you guys gave me it! A simple message was all it took to get me hooked on this super fun idea. I’m not sure who exactly sent in the suggestion as it was on anonymous, but I will gladly give credit if you want it!
