I don’t have time to scour Pinterest rn so I’m reusing dad!asher pic from last night. I have so many thoughts and feelings about him as a dad. Which is crazy cuz I’ve listen to maybe 4 of his audios (the wolfs are so story heavy and I’m just a lil guy) so like, this is probably not very accurate, sorry Asher lovers, I’ll do my best to make yall proud.

So I feel like (and I could be very wrong so suspend your disbelief for a moment) there can be human born shifters, like it’s kinda rare but it happens, and usually if the parents can’t keep the child they get directed to the nearest pack that can take said shifter kid. So the idea that sometimes David will get a call in the middle of the night from the department about a wolf kid that was dropped off and needs a pack. Like it’s an emergency foster care placement, ya know. And the thought that David and Asher have probably had a few heart to hearts about Asher and Babe trying to for a kid/talking about adopting, but life has been hectic and it just hadn’t been the right time yet. So when David gets the call in the middle of the night about this tiny little wolf shifter that was dropped off, he calls Asher and explains the news.
How I imagine the call goes: ‘David what? It’s late, what’s the problem? Everyone okay?’ ‘Everything’s fine, department called, there’s a baby shifter that needs to be picked up.’ ‘Why are you calling me about it? Isn’t this one of your alpha things you gotta do?’ ‘Asher I’m calling you because you and babe want a kid, this is an option’ *asher frantically wacking babe awake* *david hangs up and rolls over to snuggle angel*
- I feel like he would be a giddy child, hyper and excited to meet his and babes potential baby. He shakes them awake and covers them in kisses while rambling about David’s phone call.
- Babes half awake and trying to bat Asher away. Babe is fully awake when Asher starts kissing their face and excitedly tells them they get to go pick up their kid
- Babes trying to remember when they had a kid
- Babe 404 error screen
- Asher is already trying to get into pants and also tug babe up from the pillows
- Babe is basically herded into the car, still trying to desperately catch up with the situation
I like to think that the department has a small abandonment ward for shifters/empowered kids. It’s like a baby ward in the hospital but for kids who’s parents couldn’t handle an empowered child so they can be safely dropped off and someone can care for the kid until a housing situation is figured out. I also feel like wolfs/shifters are the first to be grabbed because packs always have a very strong community ‘this is everyone in the packs responsibility to help raise this kid’. Like it takes a village and packs respond very well to that. It’s probably in their wolf nature to rally around new parents and help with cubs. ALSO suspend your disbelief again, but the department being good for a change and having to resources to help get basics for the kids leaving the ward. So like car seat/baby carrier, baby food/basic stuff for the kids, because not everyone coming to get these kids is equipped with stuff especially when they get kids in the middle of the night.
- When babe finally gets the full picture, they assume this isn’t permanent, like someone better equipped is gonna take over for them, someone’s who’s raised a kid before. Who’s gonna trust them to watch over a whole child for a long time.
- Asher is very calm cool and collected when walking into the department, he’s definitely not bouncing off the walls, he’s very normal about this and not freaking out
- Babe falls in love the second they lay eyes on this sleeping child (like 2-5 years old, very small child. Idk how early you shift, suspend your disbelief ffs)
- Babes coos because somehow this kid kinda looks like Asher, same fluffy hair, same little crinkle between the eyebrows as they sleep
- Asher is too busy staring at babe to even notice the kid at first, Babe looks like they have stars in their eyes, they look so in awe and Asher’s whole world is exploding with new found love
- Then he sees the kid and he just melts, he sees babe so much in this kid, the same weird sleeping position, the agressive sniffing and face rubbing into the pillow, the hair all over the place. Asher falls in love all over again, that’s their kid, it HAS to be. This is ment to be HIS family, HIS mate and HIS kid
- They just stand there holding eachother while watching their kid sleep, it’s like a wordless exchange, they will be keeping this kid, they will figure it out together. It’s not gonna be easy, but family never is
