The Dawn Peaks (often referred to as just the Peaks) are the vast mountain range, for which the Brightest Uplands (where Central Unikingdom lies) act as the foothills. It is home to the Gleaming River, and ruins of old towns (including Unicat's birthplace, Glittering Ridges).
Most of the range is Unikingdom territory to protect it, but most of it is not habitable. However, it is more habitable than it used to be, as parts were made habitable years after the founding with the introduction of artificial lakes to fight water scarcity, roads, and railway lines. This allowed for small resort towns to be built, but their populations are small due to their distance from Central Unikingdom. The farthest away resort town is still Unikingdom territory, but it is a medium-haul (roughly 4-6 hour) flight away, since the range is so huge.
The entire range consists of very tall peaks, many of which are forested, but the mountainsides are also craggy. The closer the Peaks are toward the Uplands, the lower and less steep they are. The mountain range's relationship to the sun gives it its name, as it is named for the dawning light always hitting them, and the rosy beams extending from the tips down the mountainsides and between the trees. The mountains consist of lush forests that consist of pointed trees, primarily fluffy firs. The steepness of the slopes varies depending on where you are in the range. In addition to the forests, there are many bright valleys, plateaus, cliffs, and ridges.
Wispy clouds surround the tips of the tallest mountains. The highest one in the range is the seasonally snow-capped Mount Pink Sky, a forested mountain that has open land at the summit. From this mountain you can also see that on one side of the mountain range is the coastline, so from one side is a majestic view of delicately sparkling ocean water, while from the other is a view of the grand mountainsides with the iconic glow of the Gleaming River snaking through. The higher altitudes of the mountains are battered by cold winds that contrast with the warmth of the sunny shafts. In addition to the Gleaming River and its streams and tributaries, other bodies of water include ponds and lakes, some artificial and some natural. The third tallest mountain is Blazing Cloud Crest, where the Gleaming River begins. Some Other Place is the rocky, stormy gorge where the Dawn Peaks meet the Brightest Uplands
Several different creatures all reside in the Peaks. Wolverines are the most feared, and reside throughout the range, but their favored territory is Some Other Place. Fauna also includes lynxes (bobcats/red lynxes are the most common), mountain lions, coyotes, wolves, mountain goats, ticks, birds of prey (falcons, kestrels, eagles, and owls) shrews, fireflies, raccoons, bees and wasps (including hornets), chipmunks, squirrels, mice, voles, rabbits and hares, deer, water birds, and butterflies.
