Day Terrors

He waits for me at the end of the road. What I’ve trained for. I grip my small pointed weapon a bit tighter. The wind blows easy against my bare legs. I scrunch up my nose. The monster wreaks of a sulphuric mountain plume. My free hand wraps around a tree for support, in case his mighty wind sucks me in. The nine tailed mythic wonder calls out my name and taunts me with vicious lies dripping like sweet poison. My family needs me, I can’t fight him, can I? What if I lose? He snarls again, his toothy voice louder this time. I blink;the light from the narrow closet beams heavy against the nail scratched walls. My free hand wraps around the hanging bar for support, in case his mighty hands reel me in. The monster calls out my name and taunts me with vicious lies dripping like sweet poison. He says my family needs me, so I can’t fight him, can I? What if I lose? He screams at me to leave the closet again, and I follow.
